Hey! My name is Matt and I'm a Music Teacher and Producer living in East Nashville. I have over 18 years of teaching experience and can help you get a lot of enjoyment out of your playing or producing. I'm a patient teacher and I make my lessons fun and engaging. I teach all styles of music including Pop, Rock, Country & Jazz as well as songwriting, recording, mixing and audio production lessons.
I also make it a point to keep the lessons interesting, and introduce songs that compliment the music theory that we're learning at that particular time. I teach all about the underlying theory and logic of music to help you learn how to become fluent on your instrument or DAW.

Matt is a fastastic piano teacher! He is extremely talented and knowledgable in all areas of music theory and performance. He has been extremely professional and communicates well. I feel that after only a few months of taking lessons I have a better understanding of chord progressions, voicings, rhythm, composing and song structure. He makes me feel comfortable and runs lessons at a pace that make sense for me. I would recommend him to anyone!

Matt is an amazing musician and teacher! He is patient, innovative in his approach, and fun to work with. I am not a professional musician, but wanted to get back into playing piano, and particularly strengthening my ability to play by ear. He has taught me some music theory and techniques for approaching the chords and makeup of a song. He is also great about communication and extremely professional. I would highly recommend having him as a musical coach or teacher!

As a professional musician with a background in ethnomusicology, Matt offers a high-degree of music theory knowledge and wisdom which he imparts at each lesson. I initially sought out Matt's expertise because, as a past musician who used to play woodwind instruments at the youth competition level, I was missing the musical component of my adult, post-college life. Matt has been an awesome teacher for me. We've been working together for over a month now. He's willing to really take time and tackle details of whatever we are working on, whether it's a mix, an instrumental part, or general music questions. We've recently expanded from mixing to general songwriting and designing the arrangement with the mix in mind. I definitely recommend Matt!

Matt is an outstanding guitar teacher, and a very friendly and personable guy. He combines a deep knowledge of guitar and music theory with a taste in music that spans several genres. Matt has a method of teaching relationships among notes, chords and scales that is very effective, but he also gives the student a choice in what he or she wants to work on next to keep it fun and interesting. If you want to work on a specific song, chances are that Matt knows it or can learn it in minutes. I highly recommend Matt and his approach to teaching music.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons are 60 minutes long and are charged by the hour.
Students must pay for the entire month of lessons upfront.
There is a 24 hour cancellation policy for anything other than sudden illness. If the cancellation policy is not met, the student is charged for the lesson.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our first lesson is centered around finding out what the student already knows, and where the holes are in their musical knowledge so I can determine what to focus on. We also speak about the student's goals, and then figure out the best way to proceed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been teaching music lessons for 14+ years, have been a professional musician for 15 years, a record producer/engineer/mixer for 10 years...
I also have an Ethnomusicology/Psychology degree from Cornell University
