The service person arrived during the window that was given. Work was completed quickly and was done well. A few access cuts were made in the garage wall that was not planned, but necessary (not a big deal). The work inside the house was done without any issues. All areas were cleaned up. I would definitely recommend Enoch Electric & Air.

I highly recommend A/M Air Conditioning and Heating. I talked to Shawn about replacing my system. He asked a few pertinent questions; gave me some options, and gave me an approximate estimate and his availability. He showed up promptly, looked over the system, gave me the final price, and started immediately. Very pleased with the promptness and installation. I give Shawn 5 stars. Thank you.

My AC wasn't working. Anything could have been wrong with it. Ray's professional tech came out and ran the system checks. He then cleaned my system and explained to me that my system is protected by a breaker switch that cuts power when the air intake outside is clogged. That was all it took! All he charged was for coming out to check the system. Ray's motto is: "Honesty above Reproach". Beyond a doubt! 10 stars from me.

Stay away from the big companies all they want is your money. James did a great job, didnt try to sell me stuff i dont need and took the time to actually look for the leak in out hvac. All the big companies do is tell you to is that you need to buy a brand new system. James will be my guy to call as long as we live in his work area.

First off, Justin called me while he was eating to talk to me about the problem we had with our AC. He then told me he would come to us after he ate, and this is almost at 10pm. Justin pulled up at our residence and went straight back to the outside unit and did his tests and figured out it was the capacitor. He put the new one on and the compressor kicked in and we felt cold air coming out the vents. Hallelujah, cold AC finally after surviving the scorching heat during the daytime. Justin, my wife and i thank you as well as my animals do too. I would recommend Justin to anybody that has an AC problem. A very respectful young man who saved the day. Thank you! I'm very grateful for Cobb's heating and AC. Larry was responsive to my family's needs, very professional, and what I appreciate the most is that it actually mattered to him that my family and I had been suffering in this heat. He was determined to help my family feel comfortable in our home once again. Larry responded fast, he arrived when he said he would, and he actually fixed my air problem. I made the mistake of choosing Universal Contractors when my AC first stopped working, and was unfortunately scammed out of $350. I learned my lesson and will now choose Cobb's heating and AC for all my HVAC needs from now on.

Ok, I'm going to very honest. I think this is my second review I've ever left anywhere. Jon, the owner of Top Gun Air, was on site for my complete Air condition and hot water tanks removal and install. I will say this, it wasn't the fastest I've ever seen, but it was done right! There were a couple of things that needed to be fixed, Jon didn't bat an eye and came back and fixed them. Jon seemed to be a perfectionist, which is what I wanted to do my project. I always use a reputable company in my area to do all my large projects. Yes, Top Gun Air is a small company, so I was nervous hiring them. After the project was done, I am happy that I hired them! Jon came in and told me I need more vents and a new intake. I trusted him and I'm glad I did! The rooms that stay hot though the summer are now cool. I own a 3300 square foot house so it had areas that never cooled. Now you can walk into any area of the house and it's cool. Top Gun Air is my new Air Conditioning company! From Jon's professionalism to after the install, I am very happy! If nothing else get a quote from Jon and you'll see what I mean.

I currently have a home warranty service that came out to do repairs to my central air. They could not figure out the problem. After two service calls and multiple charges I was fed up and called Steward heat and air. The service tech that came to my home was professional and knowledgable. The problem was promptly repaired, but was was most impressive was that I was not overcharged. The situation that I was in I could have easily been made to believe that my repairs would cost a fortune but I was not. Honest, prompt, courteous , and knowledgable. I would recommend Steward heating and air to anyone that wants great service.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.
