Andrea Reesing is an AMAZING photographer with the ability to make anyone and anything look amazing. When shooting with her, I felt completely comfortable and she brought out the best in me!! I got my photos within 24 hours, which I can't say that most photographers do. She has a love for photography that most creative people don't. I will definitely be booking her again!!!!

Mindi was everything you would want your professional photographer to be. Her communication was timely (even when I was busy and mine wasn't), she was friendly as well as professional and thus made sure that our experience was a comfortable and relaxing one, and we just loved style of photography which was taking natural looking shots in nature. She was also flexible when we suggested spots we thought would be good for our shoots as we walked along the trail. Thanks Mindi!

Mary was great to work with. 1) She always responded to emails and phone calls quickly. 2) She was flexible with our schedule for the bridal portraits (my daughter lives out of town) and got them back quickly so we could have a print to display at the wedding. She had no problem with the wedding being at our church and the reception at another location. 3) I LOVE her pictures. One thing that impressed me on her web-page was the indoor shots - many photographers have lots of outdoor shots but few indoor ones. The wedding and reception were both inside (it was July!) and she did a great job. She was very discreet and managed to capture the beauty, sacredness, and joy of the day. Somehow she managed to convince my daughter and her husband to step outside for some quick (and wonderful) shots and then continued the magic indoors. 4) Compared to many other photographers, she has very reasonable rates. 5) She truly loves her job and her joy bubbles out to everyone around - it was more like she was an old friend rather than "just" a photographer. I will definitely contact Mary for other occasions!

Both talented and professional are a combination not easily found in a sea of photographers, but Mesh is a rare breed! He has an incredible eye and creates a comfortable environment for all your creative aspirations to come alive, his editing skills supersed your expectations every time and his turn around is prompt. I highly recommend booking a shoot asap no matter if it's portfolio, wedding or album art for musicians he can cover it all and you'll have a blast working with him!

I did not actually have my photos taken by Errich (because a photographer friend was able to do it for less money), but he was very kind and gracious when I canceled and was willing to reduce his price quite a bit as well. I will definitely keep him in mind for next time if my friend is unavailable.

Jennifer is simply amazing! Her attentiveness, talent and very professional manner is outstanding. She captured all of the perfect moments in beautiful natural shots. We will forever have perfect and most memorable photos of our big day thanks to her talent. I recommend Sweetleaf Photography for any important event. As a teen I studied photography and worked in a professional photo lab where all top notch photographers would send their rolls to be processed and printed so I can certainly distinguish good photography from not so great photography. Sweetleaf Photography is quality photo art!

Marc is a talented and experienced professional videographer and photographer. I needed help getting video turned into finished deliverables and he stepped up and hit it out of the park. It's great to deal with young folks who are truly gifted and able to communicate and help with any needs in the video or photograph arena.

Stephen is a great photographer! My fiance and I did our engagement pictures with him and we are so happy with the result. He captured the best moments in perfect angles. Besides that, he was really flexible about our appointment. You know the weather is unpredictable in Texas and we had some freeze alerts. Because of that, we had to reschedule our appointment several times, and he was always really flexible. I highly recommend you to do engagment pictures with him!

Undoubtedly, this photographer is amazing. It's as if she read my mind on what I was looking for in the way of setting, action shots, expressions and blending the right mix of personalities into one fantastic family photo! Even with the littlest one and the teenager, the expressions are priceless. If I ever need to expand my family photo wall, I will know who to contact!!

Ryan did an amazing job photographing our event! 150 people, a very large awards program, dancing, great food and decor... She captured it all so beautifully! My best friend and my husband are both photographers and are my usual go-to's for the many charitable and social functions I put on but they were off duty that night. I was nervous that we wouldn't get the same quality and caring from a hired gun (so to speak). But myself and our group members were all so pleasantly surprised that Ryan got some amazing shots and in the challenging environment of a relatively low light hotel ballroom. Excellent job and highly recommended!

We LOVED our video that Joseph did so much! Unlike many wedding videographers, he includes audio of the very special moments so that you can relive them for years to come. He was great to work with and was very easy to get ahold of and communicate with. He made sure to ask if there were any special moments we wanted captured before hand. His price was very reasonable compared with other videographers we spoke to. I cannot speak more highly of him and would recommend him to anyone!

Amazing photographer. Toan photographed our wedding in March. I was bummed because it was super rainy that day, but Toan used the rain to his advantage. The colors, especially green trees and grass, turned out beautiful, and we incorporated bright umbrellas into our pics. We had so many fantastic pictures that it was hard to narrow it down to which ones to print. He really does amazing work, without breaking a budget.

Tim and Peter were AHHHHMAAAAZING! I needed to find a Videographer and fast. Tim was quick to respond to my SOS for our event and was super helpful, not to mention patient with the multiple changes in decisions. Peter did an incredible job in listening to what our needs were and capturing the moments we wanted. He was always one step ahead. I couldn't have asked for a group of people to capture our event. I would highly recommend hiring these guys for any event you do.Great job El Tiburon Productions! Keep up the awesome work!

Words can not express how amazing he is! Kevan Stephen and I were blessed to have you be our photographer! You made me have fun and most importantly comfortable, I didn’t second guest any of your hard work you put in on my wedding day. You were there from the beginning to the end on my day and that was amazing to happen! My family and friends enjoyed your company as well! And I will always have you in mind when I have any other events! Thank you for everything!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
