My students are from age 5 to senior adults, and from beginners to advanced students. I am flexible with choosing the right teaching materials to fit individual needs. One of the most important strengths of my teaching is helping students identify the physical reasons causing the technical challenges and offer concrete solutions to solve problems, building a good foundation of piano technique to serve as a tool to help a pianist to express their music beautifully and with their own characteristics. There are so much more than just playing the right notes and rhythms in music! Other focuses in my teaching philosophy includes how to practice at home with efficiency; how to achieve greater control on creating different sound qualities; how to gain fingers dexterity without injuries; obtaining better knowledge on musical meanings and each composers' musical language; building a connection from students themselves to music.
I have experience with beginners in all ages who didn't know how to read music and offer them tips to build up the music-reading ability quickly. I believe being able to read music can help a pianist access wider range of music that they are interested in.
My teaching method for younger beginners focuses on actual piano playing from the very first piano lesson. They can start playing music that's much more challenging than they can actually read. This method train them to identifying musical patterns and memorization. It helps them to focus on building a better technical foundation in the beginning with more motivation. Then, music-reading will be slowly introduced along the way systematically; that way, the learning process is fun and not be too overwhelming for younger children.
In addition to above, I also have experience preparing for competitions and auditions for music programs if students require intensive coaching. Moreover, I believe my compassionate personality allows me to communicate with my students and parents well!
**I offer piano lessons in both English and Chinese Mandarin.
