Introduction: I am a classical pianist with more than 20 years of musical experiences and 10 years of teaching experience. I have received a Master's degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Ohio University where I worked with pedagogues who designed world-wide piano method, and a Bachelor's degree from National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan. I am currently a Doctoral Candidate in Piano Performance at the University of Oklahoma, and on the last stage of finishing up the degree. I live in Austin, TX right now. Experiences: Years of performing experiences in Asia, Europe, and the United States Chamber music/Collaborative Pianist Years of experience as a rehearsal pianist of a Opera theater My students are from age 5 to senior adults, and from beginners to advanced students. I am flexible with choosing the right teaching materials to fit individual needs. One of the most important strengths of my teaching is helping students identify the physical reasons causing the technical challenges and offer concrete solutions to solve problems, building a good foundation of piano technique to serve as a tool to help a pianist to express their music beautifully and with their own characteristics. There are so much more than just playing the right notes and rhythms in music! Other focuses in my teaching philosophy includes how to practice at home with efficiency; how to achieve greater control on creating different sound qualities; how to gain fingers dexterity without injuries; obtaining better knowledge on musical meanings and each composers' musical language; building a connection from students themselves to music. I have experience with beginners in all ages who didn't know how to read music and offer them tips to build up the music-reading ability quickly. I believe being able to read music can help a pianist access wider range of music that they are interested in. My teaching method for younger beginners focuses on actual piano playing from the very first piano lesson. They can start playing music that's much more challenging than they can actually read. This method train them to identifying musical patterns and memorization. It helps them to focus on building a better technical foundation in the beginning with more motivation. Then, music-reading will be slowly introduced along the way systematically; that way, the learning process is fun and not be too overwhelming for younger children. In addition to above, I also have experience preparing for competitions and auditions for music programs if students require intensive coaching. Moreover, I believe my compassionate personality allows me to communicate with my students and parents well! **I offer piano lessons in both English and Chinese Mandarin. ***Currently teaching through online mostly. Masks are required during in-person lessons.

Ms. Chen has been teaching my 7-yo child and my Mom for almost 2 years. She is super sweet, talented, kind and patient. We love her so much that even though she has moved away, we’re still doing lessons via Skype with her. She always tries to make the lesson fun and interesting for my child. She is flexible and always available whenever we have questions. We’re lucky to have Ms. Chen as our piano teacher.

An amazing teacher and super easy to get along with! Provided so much material and boosted my skills as a player 5x more in a month than the 4iah years of experience beforehand. She is very knowledgeable of practice techniques and ways to master hard music and I have learned so much from her.

Ms. Chen is great piano teacher! I was worried my son was too young, 5 years old, but she was wonderful with him. She kept him engaged! She was very patient and extremely nice with him and my 10 year old daughter. In addition, she is extremely responsible and organized! I highly recommend her for your piano lessons!

Hsiu-Ting is the best piano teacher I’ve had. I’ve had 3 others before her, and can honestly say that she has not only helped me improve at playing piano, but has helped foster my love of piano! She’s an effective teacher. She efficiently explain things, and if I don’t get something, she is creative in finding a way to explain or demonstrating things so that I do. She is always there to help and if I’m having trouble, she sends recorded videos of her playing the piano piece I’m learning or a quick explanation of a measure of the piece to supplement our lessons.
