We hired Mike to move and hook up a washer/dryer. Unfortunately, the utility room was not spacious enough for the appliances to fit very well. Although, the job wasn't completed, I would definitely hire Mike again. He was professional, on-time, fair, helpful and very knowledgeable. He offered no payment necessary since the job was not completed. However, his time, changing the dryer cord, and getting to know a great contact in the area was worth his services. I highly recommend Mike!

I had what I thought was a simple washer installation. It turned out to be a little bit more complex due to leaking from the hot water stem. Carl offered to replace it, but respected my decision to let the apartment maintenance take care of that piece. He worked quickly, but with care to ensure everything he could do was done right. If I needed additional work that couldn't be done by the apartment, I would use him again in a heartbeat.

After moving to a new home, I needed my dryer switched from a 3 prong to 4 prong cord and the dryer vent connected. Kevin performed the job exactly as requested.

Bladimir came to fix my dryer and outlet and did an amazing job. He was a little late but he explained everything what had happened to my outlet and he even went to the store to get me a new one. Amazing service and I will definitely call them again.

Chase arrived on time and ready to work. He was fast and came up with a great solution to a long time issue we've had with my dryer. He even helped me with an IT issue I've had for weeks! Would definitely recommend.

Horizon was professional. It took two visits to complete the job, due to ordering a part which shipped from out of town. But my dryer is running again -- for 1/4 what I would have paid for a new clothes dryer. Thank you Horizon!

Bob coordinated our install for Refrigerator, Washer and Dryer. Damon was excellent and he made sure everything is properly installed. Also cleaned up the mess and tested the appliances. I did have a delay in W/D delivery. Bob was happy to send back Damon the next day to install the remaining appliances. Very happy with Top Notch!

Fixed our broken washer right up and even came in the evening so we could get started on washing our crazy pile of laundry before it ate us.

Gave a fair estimate for running new wiring and advised us to go with a cost-saving alternative (which in our case would be a new dryer). We appreciate them saving us money rather than just going ahead with a costly wiring job. Thankful for their integrity!!

Heart of Texas came out within 24 hours of requesting service and fixed my washer quickly. He had the part on hand, so there was no need for multiple visits. I am very pleased and will be calling them again if needed. Also, I liked that they had a warranty on their service. I highly recommend them.

First off Tomas was on time and ready to troubleshoot my problem. My dryer was shutting off all electricity in the house after running for 30 min. Tomas was willing to brainstorm and get to the root of the problem. Tomas spent 3 hrs including the time he had to go to the store and purchase the part. I felt this was rather quick since we had to wait close to an 30 min when he came over to start the dryer and watch it turn off the electricity and then he had to wait an additional 30 min after he installed the part to make sure it worked.

Chris did a fantastic job and was very reasonable in price. I needed several small things done and he was very accommodating in agreeing to get the materials and arrange comfortable times to do the work. He furnished the labor and material. Repaired a fence post, , installed new dryer vent, caulked sixteen windows, removing and replacing solar screens to do so. He sealed and painted spots on upstairs ceiling and down stairs rooms, painted the front door, garage door jamb and replaced sweeps on storm doors. I highly recommend him and look forward to his doing two rooms of tile for me in October.

Christopher came to our home today and identified all the issues with the washer and why it wasn't working. He came up with a game plan to get it fixed and in working order and is also going to help us attach our dryer hose. Don't use Craigslist. Call Chris- Super Nice Guy!!

Ryan and his assistant did a great job installing and stacking a full size washer/dryer into a very small closet. They were on time, good communicators and cleaned up after their work. Also charged a fair price. Highly recommended. Would hire again.

Gary Gray fixed our sink (in like 5 minutes) and showed my husband how to fix it in the future. He also is coming back to fix our sliding door and dryer (He had to get parts). He also fixed our front door knob. All of this was only $50 and that's what he will charge when he comes back to fix our dryer and sliding door. Plus he was likable, professional, and easy to schedule with, unlike the handyman with the most reviews who was IMPOSSIBLE to schedule with.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
