- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Mostly, I just read. I spend a lot of time on Pinterest looking at wedding ideas, especially the DIY stuff, since most of the couples I work with are really on a budget. I read various ceremonies for inspiration, and if a couple tells me that they follow a particular religion, I educate myself on it to be sure they're getting the wedding they want.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My best friend since childhood asked if I would officiate her wedding. She and her fiancé were on a shoestring budget and couldn't afford the prices they'd been quoted from other people. I married them for free, and was surprised at how very much I enjoyed doing it. I decided I'd like to do it more, so that's what I've been doing for the past two years.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I had a bride who wanted her ceremony to be based on the novel Jane Eyre. It was challenging, fun, and romantic. I was very proud of that ceremony.
