What an awesome experience it was to hire Texans Movers for my move! The packers showed up early and those ladies did a fantastic job at packing my belongings in just a few hours. When I reached my destination and unpacked, I noticed the care they took in packing my items. Nothing was broken!!! Many thanks to the packing team for taking such care of my household items. In addition, we hired the Texans Movers to load our moving truck since we were moving out of state. They too did a fantastic job at making the most out of every inch of space on the 36 ft truck. Great job! I would definitely recommend Texans Movers to everyone I know. They really took a great deal of stress off of me and my husband! Oh, Vanessa....thanks for rescheduling the date mix-up! You rock girl! ;-)

We were coming in from out of state with the U-Haul and a commitment from other movers who pulled out at the last minute. Wilson was wonderful to take us on out of the blue at the end of what was a very long day for him. He was completely positive and professional the whole time as were his helpers! We would recommend him without hesitation and appreciate the great job he did for us!

Although things started a little bumpy, with the first van to arrive announcing they were not prepared to move three bedrooms, once that was settled and the next crew arrived, everything went very smoothly. It was a professional job, beyond my experience or expectations with a local moving outfit. I was very pleased and impress by the care which was given to my procession and the men worked hard and steady so that I didn't feel I was paying anyone to just stand around.

They showed up later than the start time but when I made the appointment, they did state that the time was an estimate. Once the movers arrived, they were extremely positive and helpful. The main piece of furniture I had to move was insanely heavy and ungainly - they kept trying and smiling until they were able to get it out of the building and into the truck. I cannot underscore the degree of difficulty enough. Considering which, I was incredibly impressed with their kindness and patience. They were efficient, professional and genuinely helpful. Even my dog loved them.

It is a pleasure to review A & C Movers. My wife and I recently moved from an apartment to a town house. It was an across-town move in Houston. I believe A & C was the second company I called. Jonathan answered my call and was extremely courteous and professional. He impressed me as someone who wanted our business and knew how to interact with people. The price was competitive, so we gave them the job. It is clear that A & C Movers are a company trying to do well in a highly competitive business. Their strategy is to deliver the best and most responsive customer service. They are succeeding in that. The three movers arrived on time and immediately went to work. Overall, they did a fantastic job and were very friendly. The entire process was accomplished in an expeditious manner. There was an issue with an antique dining room table. There was slight damage during the move. It was a fragile piece, but Jonathan did not hesitate to take care of the issue. Above and beyond what was perhaps required, he had the piece sent to a professional furniture restorer who had experience with antiques. The table was repaired and even improved from its previous state. It was a gesture of great professionalism to handle it in this way. Not all movers are capable of handling expensive items. A & C is learning to do that and I applaud them. I highly recommend them to anyone and rest assured that if the time comes for another move, they will be our first call.

I was contacted by Bosun Delivery Service after requesting a moving quote for moving a washer and dryer from a 2nd floor apt. to a house. I had a strict timeline and had to move the appliances on 7pm on Sunday night. Immediately, Bosun responded very positively and we exchanged a few messages. Once we agreed upon the work, I received a friendly confirmation phone call directly from the gentleman, "Tubo," who would be personally arriving. The move went great! Tubo arrived with 2 other guys although I was only charged for 2 men, not three. They were early, professional, and knew their business. Tubo provided thick, professional packing blankets and made sure my new appliances stayed scratch free. Professional service from beginning to end with these guys! Next time I need a mover, I'm calling Bosun.

The movers did a good job loading and unloading the items. We moved items from a storage unit to a house which they were able to complete in 5 hours. The only constructive criticism I have for this company is to honor the booked time. We booked and confirmed for a 8a start time but the movers didn't arrive until 9:15a. The coordinator Ms Veronica failed to clearly state there is a two hour window for your appointment time. I wasn't notified of the "two hour window" for appointments until after the fact. In the quote they only mentioned a minimum of two hours to booked the movers which is completely different than setting an appointment time.

SO pleased with Texas Move-It. Cody and Julio arrived on time and got to work right away. they were both physically fit and capable of moving even the heaviest of furniture in our home with no problems. They were extremely careful not to hit walls or damage anything and they packed the truck for us perfectly. They set the bar high. We were so disappointed in the people that unloaded our truck after we moved out of state. wish we had Texas Move-It here! Thanks so much

With all of the news stories about movers ripping people off, I was concerned about finding a moving company to move a 1 bedroom apartment from Houston to Memohis. A-Star movers came on time, they were clean and courteous and everything was moved. Their bid was the cheapest and without surprises. What was most amazing was they picked up the furniture and delivered it the next day! I'm very pleased and would highly recommend them for a local or out of state move.

I needed help packing and moving my dad's whole apartment He is ill and could not participate in the packing. Tailoring Spaces helped to ease my discomfort about packing all his things. Organized all of his things and packed everything. His house was a mess and I could not do it cause I was upset with his living situation. I live in another state. I would recommend using this service for any packing, moving or cleaning. I am forever grateful! It was hard to process all the things that were going on with my dad.

Timely, Organized, and careful are the words I use to describe this company and the people they employ, which are not typically words I have used to describe moving companies in the past. I called Sugar Land Moving to move our office from Main St in Houston to McGowen St the the day before in a pinch and the movers showed up that following morning early and ready to work! Not a single item was damaged and everything was moved within the same day! I will absolutely be using them for all future moves to come!

Candice and Brett were helpful from the moment they stepped into our home! I hired them for a move-in deep clean and they did exactly that, gave me cleaning tips along the way, and asked if they missed anything at the end. We're renting our home and they went above and beyond to share their experiences and go out of the way to help move extra paint cans, clean rusted oven racks, etc. Very glad to have met them and will be contacting them again in the future!

I had a laptop crash.. Mr Brooks had the knowledge to understand what had happened and corrected the problem. He then stated that he could upgrade the laptop to basically make it a new and did. More ram, more storage and new programs for less than half the cost of new. He'll be upgrading my business servers next.. Thank You Mr Brooks. Be Blessed. RS

I had a great experience with this company. I was moving from Texas to Maryland and I have never imagined how many things need to be taken care of when moving to another state. GMS team took care of pretty much everything related to packing and moving. They were on time to pick up my stuff, and delivered all my furniture on the date I’ve selected.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
