The guys from Cordobe Solutions were professional and great to work with. They showed up on time with the packing equipment they said they would. I miscalculated how long it would take and how much stuff we had. They filled the truck once went to our new house unloaded and went back to our old house to load the stuff. They did all of this without complaining. I would recommend them to anyone!

The team started an hour later than expected and took almost twice as long as they predicted to pack and again to move our stuff (1bdr apt). The packing services provided were stellar, not one thing broken!! The team was pleasant and very hard-working. I would not recommend the unpacking service. They threw linens in the back of the linen closet, even though I know they were folded in the box.

Mine was an apartment to home move with a stop along the way for a furniture exchange. Thomas and his crew, Charles and Quincy, were a little late but quickly got to work. They had the correct packing materials and expertly wrapped leather couches, a large flat screen television and other items. Elite's price was competitive. The scheduler, Anna, was professional and was able to answer all my questions. I would have given Elite five stars but for a small tear in a mattress and a couple wall dings along the stairwell. (A perfect score requires perfection, after all.) Final word, Elite is recommended by me.

We could not have had a better experience than with A to Z Moving. Found via Thumbtack, was impressed at the ease of booking, that the loaders were prompt and then exceeded our expectations in wrapping furniture and meticulously packing the truck for the long drive out of state. Many thanks to Ray, Ray and Gerome of A to Z and happy to report that all went well with the unloading and unpacking, everything got there in great shape. Thanks again for such great service.

Jason was running late but called me in plenty of time to let me know. Then he called me again approximately 30 minutes before arrival. Once at my place, it took him about 20 minutes to complete the job of hanging a new 55" TV to a brick wall on my patio. Price was very reasonable and Jason did a great job. I would recommend JWR services to anyone that asks me for a reference

We were very happy with Red Carpet moving Co. They were on time, professional and never stopped moving while literally wrapping every piece of furniture with their packing blankets. Our move went well and we would use them again. But hopefully we won't be moving anytime soon. We highly recommend Red Carpet Moving Co. They care about your move.

I moved from Dallas TX to Rockville MD about a week ago and got my delivery yesterday. The crew in Dallas was phenomenal, they did an unbelievable job packing everything, packing service is worth every dollar. The guys here in Rockville were very sweet and did a quick job getting everything set up. Overall, great experience. I was lucky my friend could recommend such a great service.

We decided to DIY (Do It Yourself) move 1,000 miles, and the household size required a 26 foot truck and an additional 16 foot truck. Mona Lisa team was hired to complete our packing and professionally load the trucks. 1,000 miles later we completed the unloading and despite some exceptionally rough roads traversed along the way, our items were almost completely undamaged. We did find a few scuffs and dents, and our wood dining chairs took some bad abuse. Given that we were not adequately prepared for Mona Lisa's arrival (we were behind and there was much packing still left to do on truck load day), we feel that the minor scuffs and dents and other items were really our fault. I am simply AMAZED at how well the packing was performed. The 26 foot truck threw me about the cabin (literally against the seat belt and seat) along some of the roads and I expected to open the truck to a sea of broken materials and erupted boxes. When we opened the truck at the destination, just ONE medium sized box was out of place. These guys are enormously hard working, good at what the do, cordial, and accommodating. If you need moving help, do yourself a favor and pick Mona Lisa Moving Company.

Not only did they accommodate me timely and on short notice, they were very professional and handled all of my furniture with great care and efficiency. They also do other work such as installations and software. I will definitely hire them again if I find myself needing their services!

Hired Guidance Moving to move our business office to a new location. A team of 3 showed up and got right to work. They quickly disassembled our desks and wrapped them for transport. They were all very polite, hard working professionals. I often worry about such services when there is an hourly rate involved as people sometimes "milk the clock" but not these guys! They did not slow down until the job was finished. Everything was handled perfectly. The rate was great and the quality of work was exceptional. If you are looking for movers, look no further, these are your guys! I will hire them again in the future!

I loved working with Candace! Not only was she an absolute doll, she has so much energy to get the job done and an instant vision on how to clean out, organize and rearrange a space to make it more functional and pleasing. I can’t remember the last time I felt relaxed and at ease in my home. I moved in with my boyfriend about 6 months ago and we’ve been struggling with storage and space for both of our things. In addition we have a galley kitchen and bulky furniture that I thought was impossible to arrange and organize. She found solutions to my storage issues and rearranged my furniture in a way me and my boyfriend couldn’t visualize. She was able to be honest and tough with me while not passing any judgment about all my junk! I highly reccomebed HORAstudios!!

We have moved several times and a few times across country. Our experience with Great Nation Moving was by far the easiest and hassle free experience that we have had with moving. They sent over an appraiser who was able to give us a quote after walking through our house and seeing what we owned and were moving. He was within $50 of our ending price, so it extremely accurate. The pricing was in-line with several other companies that we had quote out the job. Rose, their sales/account manager, was great. We explained that we needed to move from within a specific time frame, and they were able to accommodate to our schedule. We were driving to our new home as soon as the movers were done packing everything up, and they even accommodated a faster pack up by adding an additional member to the crew packing up our belongings. They delivered our items in less than a week, which was much faster than our past experiences. Rose kept me posted on the progress of everything throughout the process and seemed to be working 24 hrs a day to make sure we were comfortable and in the know of what was going on. She even called within 30 minutes of the delivery of our items to see how everything went. We did have some slight damage on one item, which we were not bothered with as the item was beat up from a previous move. Without us filing a complaint, Rose was able to get us a check to cover the damages. Overall it was some of the best customer service I have experienced. Its always a headache and there is always the hidden issues that pop up along the way, however, I felt Rose kept us in the know and ahead of the curve with the move. That goes a long way when you have literally everything you own in their hands.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
