Nazim couldn't have been better about communication throughout the process. He arrived right on time for my event, and it was evident that he wanted to get the video/photos perfect for us. He also got the video back to us very quickly (within a couple of weeks of the event). The video quality was good; the sound quality of the video wasn't as good as we hoped, but that is because of a rough video angle/set-up and outdoor conditions. Overall, I would highly recommend Nazim's services.

Amir did a vow renewal photo and video session for us and it was a wonderful experience with him. He works hard to get the best poses out of the session. Can’t wait to see the video. Hire him with your eyes closed, he won’t fail you. Did I mention he is great with kids too! Thanks Amir.

Tyrone Turner is the real deal. He knew what I needed before I did. Literally. I wanted to make a music video that looked as professional as possible but on a working man's budget. He was fully prepared with all the right equipment. A lot of people pick up cameras and think they're professional photographers. That's not the case here. I have no complaints whatsoever. I will absolutely recommend this guy to anyone needing a photographer for any reason. Trust me. This guy is the real freakin deal.

It is with great honor and privilage to have met Mr Nuzum, stunned by his punctuality and awed by his sense of responsibility and professionalism in producing a video entitled "Ambush cures HIV/AIDS". His humility and careing personality goes above and beyond the call of duty and I would personally recomend him for all your photographic or video needs.

Eileen has been great!!! We had hired her for my daughter's graduation on a party boat and she worked with all the people, got them involved and took some wonderful pictures that we will cherish for long time. She somehow got the best from all my family members and they were all taken in a very natural form. She even put the pictures in a video form with music which made it entertaining. Good luck and keep up the good work. KC

Mr. Ross Stewart is an outstanding photographer. Our Association holds an international conference each year with about 400 attendees in different cities across the U.S. The conference is four days with a variety of events - keynote speakers, formal presentations, banquet and luncheon presentations, awards, breaks, etc. We always ask photographers to capture the dynamic qualities of these events, to show in a still photo the action, engagement and excitement of being there. No one has ever done this as well as Mr. Stewart. He is also the most conscientious, careful, punctual and easy photographer we have worked with for many years. I highly recommend Ross Stewart Photography without any hesitation. He is simply the best. Stuart D. Yoak, Ph.D. Executive Director Association for Practical and Professional Ethics

It was a kid's st birthday party. We had two photographers, Joe and Chanel and both were very professional and adaptable. They took guest potraits and candid shots throughout the party and were willing to adapt to the needs of the party. They arrived on time and stayed till the time as per our contract. We will definitely rehire them for future projects.

Ali and his son are amazing and super hard working. When you use sites like this, it's always scary if you'll end up with the right person, but they are amazing videographers and photographers. I'm so enthralled by my beautiful pictures and the amazing extra work he did on them. Made my special day memorable and 100% more special. I highly recommend them.

Had my photo session with Anya and it was absolutely delightful. She's knowledgable and profession, yet really personable. I found that her friendly demeanor completely put me at ease and it enabled her to capture some really great shots of me. In fact, I just received one of the photos that she took of me and posted it on Facebook as my profile picture. Within the last 12 hours, I have received over a hundred "likes" and literally dozens of comments on how wonderful my photo is. I cannot be happier with Anya's expertise, and I highly, highly recommend Anya Sifton Photography.

When I started to look at videographers & photographers 4500Films was the first website I went to. I knew from watching one video that 4500Films was it! I had to have Mel & Cyndee photograph & take video of our wedding! From the very beginning Mel & Cyndee were amazing! My bridal pictures were an absolute blast with the two of them acting silly & everyone feeling like one big family!! I couldn't have asked for a better team. Our wedding pictures are absolutely stunning. The video is breathtakingly perfect! My husband & I couldn't be happier! We can't thank 4500Films enough for capturing ALL of the perfect moments from our big day!!

Words cannot express how impressed we were with Galligan Media for our school graduation ceremony. David is professional, considerate, and thorough. Communication for scheduling was a piece of cake! We were able to tell David our vision and he blew it out of the water. On our event day, he arrived early and even helped us with both set up and break down of the event itself. Talk about going above and beyond! The product (video of the ceremony in it's entirety) was more than we expected and our families were thrilled. Highly, highly recommended! We won't even consider using anyone else again.

I asked Steve to take photos for a new residential listing I just got. I don't want aerial I did not think it was appropriate. He took Aerial photos and video anyway and the home sold above listed price (do to multiple offers). The new owners said their were attracted to the listing because of the aerial photos, which showed the surroundings) and the video. I'll ask Vader Aerial Images to document all my new listings going forward.

Overall an excellent experience with Eyecon Video Productions to capture a two day training workshop. The video crew showed up on time both days. The video was with a live audience and there were very little in the way of interruptions to the actual program which made this a seamless venture. The editing of the slides with the video did take a lot longer than expected, but the result was a good quality product as we had originally agreed upon. I would definitely hire them again for a similar program.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
