I am Chase Von Ach, president of Earth Concepts. We specialize in creating custom and naturally inspired spaces. We can build from the foundation up, or remodel your existing space. We are a team of creatives and trades that build and remodel structures for clients that want a space they are comfortable in and can call their own. We specialize in using recycled products and modern design techniques to create spaces that are naturally inspired. I believe that human beings feel better and perform better when they are connected with nature. That being said we also host a large range of traditional construction and remodeling services in and around homes and business such as: Electrical, HVAC, roofing, framing, lighting, design, permitting, site planning, home building, warehouses, specialty refrigeration and more! I love the earth, and all things living, and I have a passion for a sustainable future. Every client and every job we do makes us a little bit better. A family business; I started working for my grandfather's construction company company when I was 8 years old. My first job was wiring rebar in the summer sun! Since then, I have learned how to do every job in the construction trade! So, tell me about your vision. :) Best, Chase Von AchSee more

Malachi Consulting began as a roofing, painting, and exterior home improvement company. Since 2005 we have earned a reputation for honesty, consistency, and commitment to the satisfaction of our clients. We have been a Better Business Bureau Accredited Member since 2006, maintaining an A+ rating in a highly competitive industry. Over the years many of our clients have asked us to bid their interior remodeling projects. As a result, we created our Design-Build division serving the requirements of those needing more technical renovations, while providing the peace of mind that comes with hiring the services of a long-standing, respected firm. Our design-build services provide exactly that. Many remodelers claim to provide Design services which later turns out to be an added cost Architect after the sale. We provide a conceptual drawing with the proposal, which is converted to technical construction drawings once the customer chooses us for their home remodeling project. A skilled construction design expert will meet with you on the first visit. Once your design is completed, our experienced production staff takes over, building your project exactly as you dreamed - quickly and well. Contact us today for a free initial consultation.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a general contractor during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To set up a consultation or appointment with a general contractor during the COVID-19 pandemic, start by performing an online search for local professionals near you.

Message the contractor, and see if they are willing to set up a video consultation call instead of an in-person site visit. With video chat, the contractor may be able to assess the scale of the project, give you better information on what needs to be done and perhaps provide an estimate. Be sure to discuss virtual payments, as well as general strategies for staying safe.

How do architects work?

Architects may work for an architecture or engineering firm, they may work for a government organization, they can work for a construction company, or they may be self-employed (freelance). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that architects spend a large amount of their working time in the home or company office: meeting with clients; creating reports and architectural drawings; and working with other architects and engineers. When not in an office, an architect is often at the construction site either as part of the development of plans or to ensure building progress is following the blueprint.

When a client interacts with an architect, it is typically to have them design drawings for the construction of a house or a building. If you are a client who has hired a large architecture firm, there may be a team of people working on your design. But if you are working with a freelance architect or a smaller firm, one person (or a small group) will take your concept and translate it into an architectural blueprint that a builder can use to construct a house. The plans will lay out everything from the depth of the foundation to the materials to use to the type of metal to be used in the reinforcement. Once the plans have been created and handed off to the builder, the architect may remain on the project — depending on budget — and oversee progress.

How can I find out if a general contractor is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

To find out whether a general contractor is considered essential in your area during the current coronavirus pandemic, visit your city or state’s government website, which will have information on essential services.

Find information on national recommendations by visiting CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 webpage. However, not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

How do architects charge for their services?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary of an architect in 2016 was $76,930. This range included architects with every type of company as well as self-employed architects. Depending on the architect and whether they’re with a firm or independent, they may charge per hour or by the square foot, or they may charge a percentage of the total budget for a construction project. An hourly rate is typically used for smaller projects such as providing consultation, helping clients hone their concept before the design process begins, or drafting documents and plans. If an architect is working on an hourly basis on a larger project, there will usually be an agreed-upon cap on the number of hours they will work. For larger projects, such as new construction or total overhaul remodels, architects may charge a percentage of the total construction costs. The architect will usually set the percentage you will pay after the total cost of construction has been accounted for. Percentages can range within a firm depending on the extent of the services they’re providing. For example, a lower percentage of the total construction costs may include drafting and minimal consultation and guidance along the way, while a higher percentage could include on-site project management services with every detail attended to. Architects may also charge by the square footage of the project. The rate per square foot can vary depending on the individual’s training, the services they are providing, the complexity of the project, and other factors — such as obtaining permits. The national average cost to hire an architect is between $1,690 and $2,500.

Can I use digital payments to pay for general contractor services?

Currently, many general contractors are using common digital payment services like PayPal, Venmo, Square Cash, Zelle, Google Pay and more. And more will likely adopt these and similar platforms as coronavirus continues to force companies to take on digital capabilities.

Contact general contractors beforehand to discuss whether they accept digital payments, and take all necessary measures to meet social distancing recommendations. You can also compare general contractors side-by-side online to see which ones accept digital payments.

Do general contractors offer remote or virtual services?

General contractors perform manual work and typically need to be present to complete their projects. However, if you come across a profile that states the contractor is offering remote services, ask what those services include. You can also ask if they can perform a consultation via video call and if they can do the job while following guidelines from the CDC and local agencies.
