I hired Morton for a charity event. He was very professional. He came a bit earlier to set up and stayed a bit longer to capture some great memories. I received my pictures a lot sooner than I expected and I was very impressed and happy with all my pictures!

Working with Lee was a breeze. He arrived at our event on time and photographed everything from start to finish. It was an all-day event, 9am - 9pm - so that in itself is pretty impressive. My team and I were very pleased with his work ethic and creativity. We noticed him setting up a GoPro at the entrance to capture guests as they arrived, which made for a cool time-lapse spot in the video he created. He also had his assistant working the drone to capture footage of the event, while he went to get every shot we requested. He was very thorough, easy to work with, and of course, friendly. I definitely recommend hiring him - in fact, we already did!

What can I say Marlon was courteous, attentive and was aware of what I needed from the start. My main concern with any vendor is availability in case of changes and Marlon was always prompt n responding. The price was reasonable within budget, actually a bit lower than our max which made the decision to hire him easy. Our ceremony music was wonderful and he had every choice of music there is. I will definitely recommend his services to anyone who needs a highly skilled professional for any event yo may have. Thank you Marlon for making our day more special than we imagined. Corporate Event Mr. Chen took charge of our corporate event photography on June 14 for 4 hours. We are impressed with his quality of work and professionalism. The photos are awesome, much much better than a photography with our previous event. He showed up ahead of time, and covered the whole event from start to finish. We definitely will use him again for our next event in Sep.

Tiffany was excellent when contacted at the last minute to do my daughter's graduation photos. She provided me with a list of outdoor places to shoot at. We were late, but she was just as patient and still took her time with my daughter. She will be my photographer at any and every event I have going forward. I can't wait to get the photos back. She showed me a few of them on her camera and they were absolutely beautiful!! You saved the day, Tiffany! Thanks you soooooo much!

Sharon and her team provided videography services for a wedding for my clients in October. As an event planner, i was quite impressed with her follow thru and commitment to my detailed time line. Her experience as a director and producer added a sence of flair to our experience with her you won't get with other videographers in the wedding industry. I would highly recommend her again when it comes to shooting a wedding.

Gazi is very knowledgeable with how and where to shoot photos. When shooting our wedding, we didn't even notice he was there documenting our special day! He was extremely professional, and made sure everyone had a chance of getting the shot they wanted (unfortunately for my husband and I! We're camera shy!) Gazi was on-time, very respectful, and we didn't feel overwhelmed at all. If you're looking for a photographer who will deliver beautiful and extraordinary photos while preserving the moments of your event, Gazi's the guy! I can guarantee you won't regret it. Thank you for your work and your patience with us! I will definitely recommend your services to anyone who needs a photographer! -The Hubbards

I hired TriPro for our twins boys 2 year old party/house warming party. Definitely recommend this team for any event you may need video production. He was punctual and as soon as he arrived he was doing exactly what he was supposed to without me having to give him any directions. I was so busy trying to finish details prior to our gathering. He made sure to capture so many moments that I didn’t even get to see from spending time with our guest and my boys. All the details from the decorations, the food, emeinent moments with my sons and our family. He went out of his way and even used a drone which was perfect to the end of the party with balloons release. The weather wasn’t so great, so he even came back so that he could capture some of the views with better lighting. Would definitely hire and recommend you do the same for your next event. Gerson is professional, punctual and dedicated. He even helped me put together a slideshow to display in our TV. I opted for the “movie video” which is definitely more personable and you will enjoy it better. Thank you for the great memories TriPro, till next year

JP directed my first video but I'm not a stranger to the world of music videos since I've had several friends make videos before. All I can say is JP is one of the best when it comes to videography. He is willing to put in the time and energy to make sure everything turns out just right. He was also on time and easy to communicate with. Doing my video with him was a 5 star experience. I look forward to doing more stuff with him in the future and I definitely recommend him for all you video needs.

We had several videographers to choose from when we were planning our daughter’s birthday party, but we are so happy we went with Coco. He’s an excellent film maker. He is soft-spoken and very respectful. He was generous of his time so we could meet and plan for the big day. He listened, he shared his creative ideas and vision for the event, and he delivered. He asked questions to make sure he’d capture important moments, and at the party itself he was not just taking a video, he was creating a film -- as evidenced by the finished product. We loved his style and his editing skills are topnotch. His rates are on the pricier side (and we are thankful he was flexible on his payment policy), but it was worth every penny. It took quite a while for the highlight video to be completed, but it was definitely worth the wait.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
