Joe was the photographer for our Barksdale Elementary graduation. Joe did an outstanding job! He was prompt, professional and took exceptional images of the event. All the requirements of the job were met as requested. Joe exceeded our expectations with his attention to detail and the quality of the images. I would definitely hire Joe again to photograph our event.

Billie came with a real bonus: She brought her very capable husband Jeff along (with my permission of course) to act as a supplemental photographer! It was literally getting two for the price of one! They were prompt, courteous, fun and professional. The cost was extremely competitive. Most importantly, they are excellent photographers. They added energy to a very important birthday party and made all the guests feel like celebrities. (They acted at times like paparazzi-- which just added to the feeling of celebration). In addition to the candid shots which created a full "diary" of memories, they came prepared to take more formal shots that were amazing. I was so impressed by the entire experience that I will be hiring them for my upcoming wedding without even considering anyone else. I cannot effectively express just how fabulous they were. Do not miss the opportunity to add them to any event that you want to raise to the next level.

Nazim took photos for a surprise wedding proposal with my fiance and I. He was great. I had him sort of hide because I didn't want to tip her off. He was really professional. Not sure that all photographers would do that. I would definitely use him again.

We hired Brianna as the photographer to take our engagement pictures, and we could not be happier!! Out of all the quotes I received on Thumbtack, Brianna was the only one to reach out after the initial quote asking if we had any questions or how she could be of assistance. That really made her stand out. Not only is she highly professional, but she does her job very well and takes her customer satisfaction seriously. She even suggested locations to take our pictures. Brianna was great at helping us feel comfortable in front of her camera, which made for some amazing shots!! Not to mention, she's very reasonably priced. I HIGHLY recommend Brianna and would jump at the opportunity to work with her again!!

Lyly recently shot my company's annual retreat and she was simply awesome to work with! She is truly professional having arrived at each location well in advance of our arrival times. Also, her presence during the span of two days was hardly noticeable- not at all distracting like other photographers I have worked with in the past. And her work speaks for itself! Lyly is a storyteller with her photos which moves them past mere documentation and into quality content that I plan to use in my company's marketing materials as well. In short, I will not hesitate to work with Lyly again and will certainly be referring her to others. Thanks Lyly!

Needed a quick turnaround for a professional photo to be used in a company business directory. Made appointment with Jack on Wednesday, went to his studio for photo shoot on Thursday and had finished product on Friday. Enjoyed visiting with Jack throughout the photo shoot and he was the consumant professional as well. Pricing was very competitive. I will use Jack again for family portraits and any other photography needs I may have. Couldn't have chosen a better photographer for my needs.

Cristi was fantastic! Exceeded our expectations and was a professional in every sense of the word. Loved that he was early which gave us a chance to see if our preferred location would work. He pointed out that we would have the sun in our eyes, not good and found another spot close by which was perfect! We were a large family group with lots of strong personalities. He was able to get us to move along and used humor to make our session fun. Very easy to communicate with and quickly answered all of my questions. We were all coming in from different states and he was very nice about working with the tight schedule we had. I would definitely use him again if I needed a professional photographer for ANY occasion. The pictures come out wonderful and everyone was surprised at how he was able to get us to quit talking long enough to have us all looking in the right direction. Thank you Cristi for making this a fun family memory with loads of beautiful pictures as well!

Working with April Little and Starry-Eyed Photography was an absolute dream! April was extremely prepared, had a clear vision for the shoot and managed to maintain a calm and happy environment throughout our time together, despite some very young and rambunctious subjects! She brought out the best in us! I was touched by the photos, which captured each child's individual personality and the love we share as a family. I would highly recommend this skilled photographer!

I am a wedding planner, so you can probably imagine when I started to plan my own wedding, how much time I spent looking for a photographer and how incredibly picky I was. I like to think that I was in a lucky position compared to most brides because I have the experience to know what to look for and what questions to ask. I can't even begin to tell you how on top of things Jessica was. I could speak for hours on how talented she is and how insanely beautiful her work is, but that speaks for itself the second you look at her site. You don't need me to tell you. What impressed me most is her professionalism and how far out of her way she goes to "get the shot." Once you've experienced her how hard she works, and how much thought she puts in weeks and months before the wedding, it becomes really obvious why all her work is so beautiful and looks so effortless. In our initial meeting, she walked us through exactly what her process is on a wedding day. How she shoots, what she looks for, how she tries to envision your album while she's taking detail shots to make sure they have a consistent flow and color scheme, and that the lighting and mood tell a story. How she researches your color palette and pinterest boards before the wedding so she knows exactly what type of flowers and decor to expect to work into the images. She explained timelines and when the best time to shoot our first look and portraits was. She was so informed and helpful in ways that went beyond just the photography. We knew instantaneously she was IT for us. Before the wedding she sent us a very detailed questionnaire to fill out that asked about our decor inspiration, our timeline, who we wanted included in our formal photos, and basically anything you could possibly think of about the wedding. A few days before she called me and discussed all of it with me and mentioned she was going to do a walk-through of my venue to make sure she knew exactly what to expect. She also sent me a very detailed list of all the types of "detail" shots she takes and how we could pre-organize these items so they would be available for her to photograph as soon as she arrived. She reached out to my florist to ask for a few extra pieces of our florals and ribbons to incorporate into shoe shots, invitation shots, etc. As a planner, in my professional life I do a lot of styled shoots with photographers (photoshoots we do with other vendors for ourselves, not clients, to expand our portfolios)... and I realized that she treats every wedding like a styled shoot, with the same care and attention to detail. She even showed up with her own extra props to use that matched the colors of our wedding - serving trays, little cute ring dishes, jewelry boxes, golden hangers, ribbons, tiny decorative scissors!! She kept joking that she is a very "OCD perfectionist" but what it really is, is passion and a committed attention to detail and making sure every wedding looks beautiful - elevating even the weddings that maybe did not have as much budget for decor and all those extra little Pinterest details we all love so much. I have worked with a lot of photographers through my work, and I have NEVER worked with one that put so much forethought into preparing for a wedding as she does. Most show up and shoot what is there. My wedding was beautiful, and I put a lot of hard work into it, but it would not have been nearly as beautiful in photographs as she made it, without all the little extra touches she thought of that no one else does. As a fellow vendor, these are the things that impressed me most about her and I feel important to share with other brides. I also know that most of the photographers I have worked with in the past will give the couple's 300-500 pictures. Jessica gave me over 1,300 edited images. Every one of them beautiful. I have seen many talented photographers (though I'm biased that she is the MOST talented) but none that work as hard or deliver as far beyond expectation as her. After my wedding, my old referral list basically went out the door. I do not recommend anyone but Jessica to my clients now. Of the dozens of photographers I have worked with, she is above and beyond the very best. If you hire her, you're making the very best vendor decision you will make for your entire wedding. If you don't hire her, what a loss for you! Your cake and food will be over that night. Your photos and memories will last forever. If I could give one piece of advice as a planner, save on the things that don't last, splurge on the things that do. Good luck, brides!

Michelle was just the right photographer for my 11 yr old son’s acting/modeling headshots. She was prompt and responsive to my needs while allowing my theatrical child to be himself. The price came back higher than Thumbtack quoted, but it was worth every nickel! Would definitely recommend!!!

My experience with Lucky images, was amazing! By far the best quality I've seen. Not many photographers have the patience like she does nor the quality she offers. I felt totally comfortable around her and being photographed. Sweetest person I've ever met, & I'm looking forward to my fourth session sometime soon ❤️ You won't be disappointed at all.

Stephanie is an amazing photographer with such a creative mind. The maternity photo shoot she did for my husband and I was great. I'm the type of person that doesn't like to direct the photographer, I want the photographer to direct me and I didn't have to say a word about it. Stephanie did her job and she does it very well. I'd recommend her to anyone!! Thanks again my friend!!

We hired Patrick to manage our Modeling Show. The Bella Modeling event at the Fashion Industry Gallery in Dallas went off without a hitch. He managed 8 other photographers while getting a few shots in himself. His level of professionalism is off the charts! I wouldn't trust anyone else with that level of work and management to anyone else!

We seriously could not have asked for a better photographer. Venu was very punctual, friendly, understanding of the pressures of the day and captured everything we wanted to express in our daughter's event photos and more! Hands down the nicest guy to work with throughout our event planning process.

I do not even know where to begin...Alex did an INCREDIBLE job with our wedding video. Being a wedding photographer myself, I knew that the value of wedding day storytelling. So with that, I have always been a big supporter of photography, but now Alex has now shown me the value of wedding videography (especially as a bride). I have watched our video I don't know how many times, and every single time I notice something new, feel something new, and just experience all the emotions all over again. Alex knows how to capture the essence of your day through interactions, different angles, details...he has an amazing eye! During the day, I hardly noticed him (which is what you want)...he did a great job of being "unseen", and capturing the raw moments without being intrusive. All of this to say, definitely book Alex to capture your wedding...you will not be disappointed in the quality and beauty in his work! -Kate & Andrew

Michael was very quick to respond and setup a time. We had a puppy and were concerned with finding a photographer that would be patient and still get us some great shots, and he delivered. Our session was quick, easy and a ton of fun. Can't recommend enough!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
