After being unhappy with so many other lawn care companies, we finally discovered lawnstarter. This company has just made my life so much easier and we now use them exclusively! First off, it's so simple to just to get my lawn cut and organize everything straight from my phone. It's really so quick since they have all my payment details. Click of a button and done. I've always been satisfied with their work, but this time I was extremely happy. Our hillside was FULL of weeds that you could barely see the soil and the nutrition in the ground was very low. Lawnstarter's crews came out quickly after ordering, were very professional, got straight to work, removed all the weeds, fertilized the soil, and were very detailed in how they kept some of the plants, which my wife wanted to keep. Especially the little clovers, rose bushes, and olive plants. We didn't ask them, but they even trimmed a couple branches of the trees which were going wild. Couldn't be happier with the service and the job. Really love this company and from the photo, you can tell they do a fantastic job!

I was really impressed by the time and care Rafael took with me in explaining the irrigation system of my new home. He ensured that the system was working properly, and patiently showed me how to navigate the control settings. I immediately hired his firm to provide me with regular lawn care, and other landscaping tasks as needed.

They did a nice job of plant placement. I do have a blank space in my side yard which needs 1-2 more plants. My daughter pointed that out to me. Overall, the experience was pleasant.

Sants landscaping laid some fresh bermuda sod, five trees, mulch and river rock. Planted around 20 plants so basically an entire landscape backyard project. It looks beautiful and he is very reasonable on pricing for this area. I would certainly call him again and plan on using him on all future projects.

Mr. Hernandez responded quickly when I found myself in need of temporary lawn care. He did a very good job considering I was not even at home to advise what or how I would like it done. I am thinking very seriously of changing my current lawn care service to his on a permanent basis. He did a very nice job, and gets a thumbs up from me.

The process was easy and the job was scheduled quickly. They did a great job with old plant removal and new planting as well as tweaking my sprinkler system for adequate water coverage. Also added a brick border to eliminate erosion problem. My new bed looks so much better. Green Landscape was professional, courteous, efficient, and reasonable. I will use them again.

I burnt my lawn with fertilizer last summer. Needed sod replacement which Christian took care of. He added fertilizer before placing the sod down and afterwards as well. He treated the lawn as his own. Very happy with his job. He takes personal pride in what he does.

We hired Nayel for weekly lawn mowing services with some added extra maintenance type items in the yard. I am very impressed with their professionalism and attention to detail. They are a knowledgeable and polite father/son team that are just starting to build their business and with what my husband and I noticed, they will be successful. We have had 4 different lawn care providers over the past year and they were all sub-par doing the exact minimum amount of work (just lawn mowing) but Nayel and his father went above and beyond that to make sure other obvious items were also taken care of to make sure our yard looked great when they left. They are very responsive with calls, texts, and email and we will be referring Nayel to all of our family and friends in Dallas.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
