Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I choose the best TV mounting service in Dallas?

The first step to finding the best TV mounting service in Dallas is comparing companies side-by-side, reading reviews and ratings, and gathering prices. When you receive a quote from a company, compare it with others. And, determine whether you might save more money with a professional who charges an hourly rate or flat rate. Be sure to ask the right questions about their installation and payment process. Don’t forget to give them as much information as possible on the particulars of your TV wall mount installation.

How much does it cost to hang a TV in Dallas?

The best TV mount installers in Dallas charge different prices for their services, and some have an estimated cost as low as $65. How much you’ll pay, however, will depend on several factors. For example, the type of wall that you’re hanging the TV over might affect the price. The prices for hanging a TV on materials like drywall, brick, wood and tile may vary. Similarly, if you want the wires concealed behind the wall, this may affect the price. If you don’t already own the TV mount apparatus, you’ll need to buy one. And lastly, remember that some pros may charge you by the hour — and others will charge you a flat fee.

Where can I buy a TV wall mount in Dallas?

Shop different retailers in Dallas for the best TV wall mount for your home theater. Department, hardware and electronics stores often stock a wide range of TV mounting brackets, as do online stores. You may also want to consult with a professional in Dallas to ensure you’re purchasing the right kind of wall mount for your TV. Companies that provide installation services might also be able to sell you the proper equipment, too.

Where can I buy TV mount screws in Dallas?

Dallas has a selection of retailers who offer TV mount screws for your home or office installation. Many chain stores carry large inventories of these products both in-store and online. Consult with a professional TV wall mount installer in the area to make sure you’re buying the right screws for your system. In fact, you can ask these companies if they can supply the screws -- and any other equipment you need -- in addition to mounting your TV.

How high should you install a TV mount on a wall?

The actual height you mount your TV will depend on the layout of your room. If you’re mounting it above a fireplace or in an alcove, the height of these structures will determine the mounting height of your TV. However, Bob Villa recommends positioning your TV 42 inches on-center in conventional rooms with standard seated viewing.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

  • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
  • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
  • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
  • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
  • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
  • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

Can you mount a TV in drywall?

Yes, it’s possible to mount a TV on drywall. To make sure the job is done right and you don’t end up damaging your wall or injuring yourself, consider contacting one of the best TV wall mount installers near you. When contacting professionals, make sure you tell them you wish to mount a TV in drywall.

What type of TV mount do I need?

There are several types of TV mounts, including fixed mounts, tilting mounts and full-motion mounts. A fixed mount is sturdy but offers no movement, and a tilting mount tilts vertically. A full-motion TV mount swivels and tilts for the maximum number of possible viewing options. You can also mount your TV from above with a ceiling TV mount. Whichever TV mount you choose, ensure it can support your TV’s weight and size. If you need help choosing and installing a TV mount, contact a TV wall mount installer near you.

How do I hide the wires to my wall-mounted TV?

You can hide wires from a hanging TV on a wall by putting them behind the wall. However, this requires some drilling or buying an in-wall power kit. Alternatively, you can use what’s called a “raceway” — a hollow metal or plastic channel — that runs down your wall and hides your cables from sight. To get the job done right, and avoid risking damage to your wall, hire a professional TV wall mount installer near you.

Reviews for Dallas tv wall mount installers

Reggie was fantastic! He installed a 65” inch TV and a mantle mount above our family room fireplace along with a Sonos sound bar to the wall (the mount we bought wouldn’t allow it to be installed on the mount). You cannot see ONE wire. The Tv and sound bar both look like they’re floating on the wall. His work was clean, professional, efficient, and valuable - as was he, as a technician. He made recommendations and helped with selecting additional materials to make what we wanted work. He was a true consultant! We’re actually waiting for him to come back this week to mount another TV for us!

Fantastic experience. He really new the ins and outs of tv mounting (including the types of walls and types of mounts). He also wore a mask during the install, minimized what he touched, and kept social distance. Overall a pleasure to work with in these stressful times.

Amery was super quick and very knowledgeable about tv mounting. I didn’t have an outlet in the middle of the wall so he told me the importance about that and installed it. I 100% recommend him.

Ken did a great job. He moved a 70 inch TV that was mounted above our fireplace and installed a 85 inch TV in its place. He mounted the 70 inch on our wall in another room and moved the electrical outlet to stay within code. All wires were hidden. The job took much longer than expected, but he honored original estimate.

First and foremost, I want to thank our installer for doing such a great job. In comparison to the other bids, after reading MountYourTV's reviews, I can only say good things about this service. The installer was very thorough with his process. He explained every part of the process, what his price includes, the type of mounts he uses, etc. He assessed the situation first before proceeding to start the job. His goal is to do the job right the first time and also please the customer. You can really tell that he's been doing this a very long time. He also informed me that he has mounted various types of TVs as well as mounting speakers, webcams, etc. The installer is extremely knowledgeable and always puts the customer first. I wanted a mount for my 65" Samsung 4K SUHD TV that was versatile enough for me to pull away from the wall, tilt, and rotate at all angles. My mount that was used is the best mount in the industry. The mount manufacturer that was used for my TV is located here in Dallas and has a great long lasting relationship with his suppliers. I personally purchased the Philips Hue light strips prior to the installation and he was able to install these behind the TV with ease. These lights are great and you can control the strip lights using your mobile app and can select up to 16 million colors. Unfortunately, the adhesive that came with the strip lights did not adhere to the TV well. Luckily he had the perfect adhesive tape for the strip lights in his tool box and made sure it worked. When the job was complete, he took his time to make the necessary adjustments for the tensions of the mount so that it's not too cumbersome when moving the TV screen around. He even used the correct tools like the level tool to make sure every part of that mount AND television was balanced. Extremely detailed, the installer took the time to make this TV mount perfect. After the job was complete, he cleaned up the work area with his portable vacuum, collected all packing materials from the TV mount box, and made sure all the connections were working properly. He even took the time to reconnect the audio system to our other TV because the cable guy messed it up and couldn't figure out how to hook it up properly. A man of God, he was definitely great to work with and talk to. His bids are extremely competitive and all the cables that he uses are professional grade. If you're contemplating on your bids to maximize and protect your investment, you don't have to look elsewhere. MountingYourTV will go beyond the call of duty to do not just a good job but an EXCELLENT job. (Please do not copy, edit, or crop photos per copyright laws.)

I made an appointment for tv mount with a plastic cord cover. On my appt day, my tech showed up and said he didn't bring a plastic cover because he didn't know about it. He opened up his phone and showed me my appt ticket which clearly stated that I paid an additional $35 for a plastic wire cover. Instead of him apologizing and saying he forgot to bring it he said he will just mount my tv and he will have the office give me a refund for the extra part. He went on to measure the wall to mount, then he made a phone call and then told me he has to leave and that he will be right back to go get the part. After he left I got a text from the office that said they will be sending me another tech in 2 hrs, and that the tech had to leave because his measurement tool didn't work. (lie #1) When the 2nd tech arrived 2 hours later, he walked in with the cord cover and went on to say that I have to pay him an extra $5 because the cord cover was $5 more. I told him why should I have to pay for extra, its not my fault that you guys had the wrong amount on thumbtack. Mind you, I had already fully paid for my service. He then went on the say nevermind, its okay you don't have to pay the extra $5. I don't know if he was trying to get an extra tip from me but that was very unprofessional. (lie #2) Flashback to the day before my appt, I got a phone call of a guy saying the $147 I paid on thumbtack it only for for a tv mount. Meanwhile when I booked my appt I chose a tv mount, plus a soundbar mount in which the total came to $147, now you're calling me saying thumbtack made a mistake and that it doesn't include a soundbar installation. Thats 3 strikes! I will no longer be using this company, it was my first and last time.
