From start to finish AJ was the man. If I could give 10 stars I would. EVERYONE loved the food at our wedding and he even made a special plate for my mother in law with very specific dietary restrictions. The presentation of the food was also beautiful and unique. We cannot sing enough praises to AJ and Red Dot. He was easy to communicate with, always on time and the easiest person to get along with. I highly recommend Red Dot for wedding catering or any other service they provide. Perfect experience!

ATTENTION ALL Brides!! If you have been stressed out trying to find the perfect caterer for your dream wedding who will provide excellent food, great quality and support you in other areas, LOOK NO FURTHER!!! I don't even remember how I stumbled upon thumbtack but thank god I did!!! After searching for months and speaking to several different companies, I had a 15 minute phone conversation with Terri Adams / Queenie and within the first 5 minutes I knew this would be the person to catered my wedding! Queenie offered to come to my house in Katy to provide me, my fiancé and 2 other guest with a tasting FREE of charge!!! When she arrived at my house she was on time, the food was hot and mannnn it was soo sooo delicious!! Oh and Not to mention before the tasting she created a custom menu that my fiancé and I envisioned we would have the day we got engaged!! She create the perfect barbecue menu that fit our budget!! My wedding isn't until April 8, 2016 and I can't wait to eat more of Queenie's food! I am leaving a review now because I am so confident that mama Queenie is going to show up and show out at my wedding! I really wanted to give Queenie a review now because out of all my vendors she has been the only one who hasn't caused me any stress!! The food is one of the most important things and I know she has it covered!! I have a very opinionated family who thinks this wedding is there's but Queenie has been a friend to me and has cocsistantly reminded "baby it is your day, it's whatever you want" Queenie's father was in the military so I think that's why she is so on point when it comes to responding to an emails, answering a phone call, meeting me on time at places, confirming our conversations ect. She is also very honest and caring and genuinely wants to be part of the best day of your life! It makes her happy! She will give you nothing but great advice great quality, professionalism, accuracy, love and a little more than what you ask of her. I'm glad Queenie will be at my wedding! Not only because I love her food but I gaining a friend / a sister /a loving /positive beautiful soul who goes above and beyond to make sure the bride / ME :) is happy!!! The mother in her thrives off seeing/ making her brides happy!! I can't wait to hire her again whether it be at a baby shower company party or a family gathering I know Queenie can take care of business!! God is good! I am forever thankful for all that Delectable Delights by Queenie has done for me thus far! I'll follow up after the wedding just to post pictures and confirm Queenie is a woman of her word she stands by quality!!

Kevin and his team did an AMAZING job with the food for our wedding! Everything tasted incredible! His filet and mashed potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. Kevin himself was super super sweet and accommodating. He never failed to respond promptly to an email and was extremely helpful and easy to work with through the entire process, not to mention he was very reasonably priced. If you want great food and great customer service, Kevin is your guy! We will definitely use him again!

Mark and his team catered my niece's christening reception @ the Gite Gallery in April 2018. The Gite Gallery has preferred caterers; however, I never heard from either caterer after contacting them. Upon contacting Mark, I explained that a friend of mine had attended an event where his team caterer the food and raved about it so I felt it was kismet that we linked up on Thumbtack. I also explained to Mark that I live in northern Virginia, and that I would need a caterer to facilitate most of the interaction with the Gite Gallery. Mark hosted a tasting the week of the reception for my mother and I listened in over the phone. She RAVED about the food! Every item Mark brought out was better than the next! I received the same rave reviews from the 50 people that enjoyed the passed hor d'oeuvres and heavy appetizers over the 3.5 hour period of the party. His lovely wife served as the TABC bartender. We provided the wine, water, and sodas and she served our guests. The money I spent on the event was well worth it and the Gite Gallery owner is even planning on using Mark and his team for future events. Mark will also be the caterer of my rehearsal dinner and wedding (once the date and man are secured 😀) . It was an absolute pleasure to work with Mark, his lovely wife and his staff. His impeccable attention to detail is evident through the presentation of his food and options for seating at a venue that was extremely tight and didn't necessarily accommodate for seating. If you're looking for a caterer with years of experience and reasonably priced with attention to detail and the most AMAZING food, Dine Catering and Events should be your first and ONLY option!

I was a bridesmaid in the wedding of one of my best friends and she selected Arcodoro (through me and Thumbtack) to be the rehearsal dinner restaurant and caterer for her wedding reception. The rehearsal dinner was perfect - the food was amazingly delicious, the atmosphere was elegant and intimate and there was plenty of free parking (a HUGE plus in my book). The catering for the wedding reception went so smoothly, the bride never batted an eye. She was so pleased with the rehearsal dinner, she knew she had nothing to worry about the day of the wedding. Again, the food was wonderful and Kelli made sure all the guests were taken care of. I highly recommend the lobster bisque, bruschetta with assorted toppings and tiramisu cake. We were on a tight schedule for the reception and Kelli and her team made sure the venue was back in it's original state in plenty of time before we had to leave the building. Arcodoro made the wedding a huge success!

My wedding food was a hit! Keif's dishes tasted like home-cooked meals rather than normal bland wedding food which is why I loved Keif! We had baked chicken, green beans, rice, and fish. The menu varied so everyone got a little bit of what they wanted. The price was also very cheap compared to most catering companies for 200 guests. Lastly, we paid for two extra servers/waiters and they were also not pricey compared to other catering companies. Please do not look past Keif's Catering when planning your wedding! He is the best caterer with the best attitude and best wedding food. Thank you Keif and great luck with all your future endeavors!!

My favorite of his many dishes is the shrimp and grits. The Chef is very professional and has a keen eye for creating flavorful foods. We hired El Sabor Venezolano for my daughter's graduation party. They arrived on time, and got immediately to work! Our guests absolutely loved all the food, which was fresh, had great taste and was professionally presented. Everybody spent the next three hours savoring their delicious plates, and we got rave reviews from our guests about the food. We would certainly recommend them for any party; we had over 50 guests that were coming and going the whole afternoon, and everybody enjoyed the food very much! Fully recommended!

Chef Marcus catered my wedding 💒 a few months ago. The food was awesome. We had Prime rib served with a French onion and mushroom 🍄 sauce, herbal roasted chicken 🍗 served with creamy Alfredo and fettuccine. Wild rice 🍚 pilaf, rosemary finger ling potatoes 🍠, a vegetable medley, and garlic butter steamed broccoli. It was to die for. I would recommend you eat anything Chef Marcus cooks.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

  • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
  • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
  • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
  • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
  • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
  • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
