Introduction: I am truly passionate about drums and teaching and I have taken many steps to master my chosen instrument. I have studied jazz at The University of North Texas, but I work in the Texas/Nashville country scene. Versatility has become the name of my game. My son has been taking lessons from Christian Dorn for a little over a year now and his improvement behind the drums has been exponential. Christian is very good at encouraging him and making sure he understands the material each week. These lessons have put my son at the top of his class in band and he is now in all the ensembles he auditioned for. As a parent, I appreciate Christian's attention to detail and his promptness when it comes to things like email and invoicing. My son also gets assignments and exercises to work on each week, many of which are custom made for my son. He really seems to be invested in my son and teaching is obviously a great passion of his. As a side note, my son is constantly talking about the quality of the equipment that Christian has in his lesson studio. We never have to bring any equipment, the lesson studio is wonderful. All in all, Christian is a great teacher and I recommend him to anyone who is interested in drum set or percussion lessons.

FAQs

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Drumming is a life long endeavor for me and I am constantly trying to better my craft. Besides staying on top of different happenings in the percussive world, I am an active member of the Percussive Arts Society and the Texas Music Educators Association. Even after 15+ years of drumming, I still enjoy practicing and learning new things on the drums. A daily practice regiment has been apart of my life for years.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
A few months ago I had the pleasure of working with a talented 8th grader who was getting ready for her first year of high school. Her and I worked together every week all summer and her drumming really went to the next level. I am proud to say that she is now the first girl to ever make her high school's drumline freshman year! Hard work really does pay off!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Picking a private music instructor is an important decision and my advice for anyone looking would be to make sure the personality/teaching philosophy of the teacher fits with what the student needs.
