Van Vu says, "We experienced a plumbing leak in an upstairs bathroom. After the plumber resolved the leak and UWRG McKinney completed water remediation, we were left to find someone to repair the flooring and walls. We decided to proceed with a full bathroom remodel and contacted Azores on a Saturday before checking and realizing that we did so outside of their business hours. We received a call back and voicemail early Sunday morning from Rachel. First impression with a company is important to establish great customer relations, and Rachel was fantastic. Her tone was bright and friendly, and she set a great start to our day. We were quickly scheduled for a walk through and estimate.Arad & Ben were our points of contact from start to finish. These dynamic duos are awesome to work with. They quickly assessed the bathroom, took measurements, looked through my saved inspiration pics, patiently listened to us describe what we would like, and gave us a quote for the labor. Work scope, estimated time frame, and payment terms were made clear. A 10% deposit was collected once we signed the contract. Next, a date was set to meet with them to select tiles, trim, and grout. We selected and communicated with them on our choice vanity, mirror, light fixtures, faucet systems, and drain own prior to purchasing to ensure they would work with the remodeling plan. They text ahead on estimated arrival time to check in on the work progress daily and provided ample opportunities to address questions. After work already commenced, we decided to add to the work scope, and they efficiently worked it into the timeline at separate reasonable price. The workers. Luis, Diego, and a female. Apologies for forgetting and any misspelling. Estimated work hours and offsite lunch breaks were communicated with us beforehand. They covered their work path and areas to minimize dust. They collected and hauled away construction waste daily. Materials and tools were arranged and left in our garage. They did final checks and confirmed with us on our preferences prior to proceeding with permanent modification/installation work.We are extremely happy with Azores for helping to turn our outdated, cramped, tub style bathroom to this spacious, modern, walk in shower stylewith added shelving! I believe the 5 star ratings here accurately describes the quality of their work. They are pros at communicating and turning their customers fragmented ideas into cohesive reality. When it comes time to upgrade other areas of our home, we will definitely contact them again. Their business card has been added to our to keep box."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Searching online is best way to find the best deck contractors in Fort Worth. This way, you can view and compare ratings of pros in your area.

Click on a few contractors’ profiles so you can learn more about their expertise. Read the customer reviews, and keep an eye out for any information about the contractors. For example, do they show up on time and complete their deck projects on schedule? Do they offer fair pricing? Are they professional and communicative throughout the entire process?

You should also pay special attention to photos of completed decks uploaded by customers, as these showcase the quality of the pro’s work. Even better: look for photos of decks that you may want for your Fort Worth home.

Also, try to find out what type of credentials the deck contractors have. You can look for this information on their profiles, or you can contact the pros directly. You can also try researching online. One place to start is the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, where you can verify licenses for professionals.

Your final step is requesting free estimates from several contractor. Choose a deck contractor that has your confidence. They should be familiar with completing deck projects for Fort Worth homes, and have the necessary credentials, positive reviews and affordable pricing.

Search online to find the best general contractors in Fort Worth, and read the customer reviews. Try to narrow your search to a few reputable contractors, and make sure the contractor offers the services you need (for example, new construction or plumbing).

Contractors in Texas should always have up-to-date insurance and licenses. And before you hire, ask several contractors in the Fort Worth area to send you free cost estimates.

Construction project managers help in all stages of your construction project, starting from the very first step. Typically paid a percentage of a total project cost, they are part of the design and planning process and help ensure seamless communication between the design parties and the construction team. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, their scope of work includes preparing cost estimates, budgets and work timetables; interpreting and explaining contracts and technical information to other professionals; reporting work progress and budget to clients; collaborating with architects, engineers and other construction pros; selecting subcontractors and scheduling and coordinating their tasks; responding to work delays, emergencies and other problems; and ensuring compliance with legal requirements, building and safety codes, and other regulations.

The work of construction project managers may seem very similar to that of general contractors, but there are some critical differences. One difference is that, unlike most general contractors, project managers are not engaged in the actual construction — they are onsite overseeing the work of subcontractors. Another key difference is that project managers are hired during the design phase, while general contractors are hired after plans have been made. The project manager is generally paid a percentage of the total project cost, while the general contractor is more typically paid according to the bid they gave to build your project.

The cost of building a new deck or porch is $1,500. However, this price can vary depending on a few different factors. The square footage of the space, the type of materials to be used, the intricacy of the project and your specific region can cause the price to fluctuate. You may choose to hire a construction project manager for your residential or commercial project. For the hands-on homeowner who wants to be involved in home construction but isn’t comfortable hiring subcontractors, a construction project manager can oversee these relationships and supervise labor. Typically, construction project managers charge a fee that is a flat percentage of the total construction project cost. This may range from 10 percent to 15 percent, depending on the company and the services they provide. This means a $30,000 home remodel project would have a construction project management fee of $3,000-$4,500. Hiring a construction project manager generally precludes the markup on subcontractor labor charged by a general contractor. The drawback to this choice is that, unlike a general contractor, the construction project manager won’t be financially responsible for the work of the subcontractors. For larger projects, you may hire a construction project manager who will also hire a general contractor. This provides the benefits of the general contractor along with the management services of the project manager, who will be on board from the beginning. The construction project manager will be involved in the design phase and work with the architects and the building crew, facilitating a smoother overall process.

It’s important to know if your project requires work by a licensed professional, as licensing laws can vary by state, locality, and job details. You can find general licensing information online at the government websites that handle occupational licensing for a given profession in your state or location. Some states designate a project cost over which you have to hire a licensed contractor. To find qualified licensed contractors, search your state’s licensing board. For example, in California, the Department of Consumer Affairs operates a searchable database through the Contractors State License Board. In some states, contracting licenses are provided at a regional level. You can find links to specific databases on BRB Publications’ Occupational Licensing page. Red flags that a contractor may not be licensed or may be providing an expired or false license number are unreasonably low bids or a request for complete payment upfront. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

A contractor license number is proof that your contractor is operating their business legally, that they have the proper documentation required by your state or region, and that they are competent in their area of work (electrical, plumbing, construction, etc.). Licensed contractors should freely advertise their contractor license number. If not, you can request it before considering them for hire. You can also research your contractor using their license number. The database for your state will indicate the field they are licensed to work in; whether they are up to date on insurance, workers’ compensation and bonds; and whether they have any consumer complaints issued against them. If the licensed contractor you are hiring does not have employees, they are not required to carry workers’ compensation. Each state or region will have their own database for licenses, such as the State of Oregon Construction Contractors Board. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

A back deck may (or may not) increase your home’s value or attract potential buyers if you’re looking to sell. According to the Remodeling Impact Report: Outdoor Features, a new wood deck with an estimated construction cost of $10,000 recovered $8,000 for the overall recovery of 80%. Still, 9% of realtors suggested that home sellers should add a new wood deck before putting their home on the market, and 4% said this project has helped closed deals.

The impact of adding a new deck will likely depend on its material (wood, composite, etc.) and where you live. For example, if you live in an area where people rarely spend time outside because of the weather, it’s reasonable to predict that prospective home buyers might not rate a deck highly on their list of must-haves when looking for a new home.

When in doubt, consult with your realtor or a real estate expert to figure out if adding a new deck to your home is the right move to increase your home’s value. If it is, contact the best deck contractors near you to get free estimates and start planning your project.

If you don’t have the skills, experience and qualifications, building a deck may be difficult for you to do on your own.

Structural integrity is key when constructing anything, but especially something you plan to have your family and friends use regularly. The safety of the structure takes careful planning and experience.

Professional contractors have the knowledge to make a safe, beautiful deck for you. They also know the proper permits and insurance required to legally build a new deck or remodel a porch in your city.

When in doubt, contact the best deck contractors near you and start getting free estimates today.

One of the first questions you should ask is whether the contractor has the proper license or insurance. To be a licensed contractor in many states, they must have the experience and knowledge to pass the requirements from your state’s licensing board.

You should also inquire if they have done work related to your specific project. Just because they’re a contractor, that doesn’t mean they’ve built a deck or an addition like yours. Ask for photographs of decks they've built in the past, and go online to read reviews from past clients.

You also need to ask for a free estimate from several contractors so you know how much the project will cost you (and so you can pay the best price).
