..my new garage doors -- which they even sourced beyond the basic two color options, at my request -- run smoother than the ones installed before the damage to them.. ..Reliant Overhead was prompt & assisted, even though i was not quite prepared (to allow them room to work) & they didn't complain a bit.. ..the price was nice, and i appreciated their flexibility with my payment methods.. ..i'd recommend them to anyone, especially since they guarantee their workmanship..

Mr. Jesse Robertson, of Performance Garage Door Service, did an outstanding job of keeping me informed of the problems associated with the garage door's failure, recommending solutions and completing the work in a timely fashion, minimizing labor cost. The work on the failed garage door included replacing the broken return spring, reseating the base of the chain drive's guide rod and reinforcing the damaged garage door headers on both the automatic and the manual garage doors and realigning both doors. He went the extra mile, aligning and greasing the sprocket assembly on the automatic door, then checking both doors for secure, smooth operation. I'll be calling Jesse the next time I have a garage door problem.

Josh Adams is everything you want a garage door repairman (or anyone, really) to be: Responsive: He responded very quickly to my request. Knowledgeable: He viewed the photos that I’d attached to my request and accurately diagnosed the problem, catching issues that neither I nor the other responders did. Accurate: His quote to repair the work was the price I paid. On time: He met his commitment to a repair timeframe. He had our garage door working better than before in under 30 minutes. And this is a big door... And, very important to me, Josh was kind, pleasant, and made us feel comfortable the entire time. I highly recommend Adams Superior Garage Doors.

If you're looking for a great Handyman then I highly recommend Joel. He just re-stained my cedar garage door & upper shutters and also re-caulked and painted the garage door wood trim. He is very reasonable and more importantly to me...he is professional, prompt, courteous and a great communicator. He was very detailed and did an awesome job. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again!

Alan and Scott were great. I had actually gotten another quote from a different company but felt that next doors professionalism and responsiveness to my questions was excellent so I called them and they matched the lower price. Scott was a very good communicator and let me know what was going on even with a rain delay the job was done very quickly

While the painting job was fantastic (had all wood trim painted on my mostly-brick home), when they painted the garage door it stuck after it dried. When I opened up the door after they left, the bracket attached to the garage door opener arm had some snapped bolts and the door jerked open, wasn't safe. I brought this to the project manager's attention, and while he was willing to work with me he didn't paint a good vibe about getting the company to pay for the repair. I ended up just getting a garage door company to fix the bracket, $127 repair. While I am satisfied with their painting job, I won't use this company again due to the damage done to the door.

I hired Ever to do 3 jobs for me. Paint and texture my entire garage, epoxy the garage floor, and paint my concrete patio in the back all one color. He showed up with his team on friday ready to work and knocked out all the garage prep work, taping off and texture. On Saturday he painted the entire garage, did the epoxy, and painted the patio. I came home from work at night and just stood at my open garage grinning and shaking my head with complete satisfaction. He did an amazing job and went above and beyond to guarantee my wife and I were very happy! He even painted and mounted our shelves and flag brackets, and cut and made a better attic lid cover for us which I really appreciated. We will be calling Ever back for any future plans we have in the future. My wife and I will be hiring again for more work!!!

Overall Manny did a great job. He and his team do 5 star work. All of the work he did in my house is wonderful and I get several compliments. My doors, my sheet rock, my paint, and my fireplace are all beautiful. My only feedback is on communication. There were a few slight hiccups in communication that delayed some projects, and a few times I was told something would be done on a certain day, and it oftentimes was done later than that. And I really never knew if or when people would be showing up to do work. But I would recommend Manny and his team to anyone who asked because I really am very happy with my results. Thank you!

Thanks to Tanner we were able to once again open our garage door but with our newly installed torsion bar type opener. See I started the project and because of some faulty wiring on the part of my electrician Tanner was able to troubleshoot and finish the installation. He was in constant contact with me on his arrival up till he pulled into the driveway and went right to work. Don't think we could've done it without his help. Definitely a referral for anyone who needs an expert to fix anything related to your garage doors.

I messaged for service on a Saturday night regarding my garage door not working. I was responded back to within minutes and provided with an appointment for Sunday morning for an estimate. Casey (owner) arrived on schedule, knew immediately what the problem was (broken spring), and provided me a quote for replacement. He was also able to examine the other parts to my system to ensure that everything else was ok, ensuring me how he would be there in the future if I was ever in need for further repair. After replacing the broken spring, he was able to explain how everything was repaired, lubricated the springs and the hinges and was finished in 30 minutes. Fast, reliable and no additional charges for work on a Sunday morning! Now I can get my cars out of the garage, be ready for work on Monday and can be stress free knowing I can have someone I can now rely on to be there! I would definitely do business with Quality Garage Door Services again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

  • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
  • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
  • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
  • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
    • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
