My floors look really terrific and they feel clean and brand new under bare feet. I'm especially happy with my kitchen tile and my laundry room tile. They look like they did when I moved into this home over 10 years ago. My wood floors also sparkle like they did when installed 5 years ago. Wally had a little trouble with his equipment working properly and that set him back time wise, but he was able to trouble shoot and fix the problem and finish in a day, but it was a long day for sure.

There is nothing bad to say about this company. Carlos showed up on time to clean the carpets and sofa/chairs in our office waiting room, and did a FANTASTIC job. He was so thorough, took his time, and worked very hard. The sofa and chairs looked new, and the carpets were brighter and smelled so good. His prices are very reasonable. We had him back to clean the carpets in the office next door, as well as to clean the tile and grout in our restrooms. Will definitely use him again!

Frank is great! He's prompt, polite, honest, fair, and trustworthy. He does what he says he will do. He was the first to show up for an estimate and he inspected my tile installation several times to ensure it was being completed to my satisfaction. I work with many different contractors on a daily basis and Frank is one of the most pleasant that I have worked with.

Mason was the most professional Carpet Care technician that I've ever had clean and care for my carpets. Zerorez cleaned the 2 years prior, he showed me all of the foam residue that was left in my carpets from them. He also cleaned the tile and grout in bathroom that Zero couldn't clean. One last thing, there was an area in my living room (3' x 2') in front of sofa that Zero said would never come clean, guess what its clean now! He gives only a 30 minute window and he was ahead of schedule. Give him a try, you wont be disappointed.

We had a major pucker in our hardwood floor. Mr. Nelson was prompt and very helpful to us in solving our problem. He went out of his way to find a match for our hardwood, which was discontinued. We had to settle on replacing the floor with tile, which turned out beautifully. His price was very reasonable for the work he performed. I would highly recommend this company.

I have been in contact with Roberto since last year when we wanted to put carpet in the bedrooms. Roberto came to our house to let us see the samples, measure and give us an estimate. I knew his estimate was the most fair of all but I needed to wait to budget for the project. I have kept in contact and was checking in recently about starting the project when our house was flooded from our washing machine. We were forced to replace all the flooring in our home and opted for wood like porcelain tile and carpet in the girls rooms. Roberto came back out and measured offering again, a very fair estimate for the work. Considerably lower than others. We ended up starting the day after Thanksgiving with the demo of approximately 1400 sf of tile, replacing with approximately 1200 sf of wood like tile. Installation of approximately 300 sf of carpet in the girls room was last and we opted to have Roberto's team replace the baseboards damaged in the flood. I have attached some photos of during and after the installation. I would highly recommend MP Carpet again. They were very prompt every morning and you can pay with confidence that Roberto will finish the job 100%. We lived through the construction which lasted approximately 8 days from start to finish. The guys came early and stayed late to finish timely. The demo was very labor intensive. Roberto was also VERY responsive to my questions and was always available. He was always communicating what to expect, especially since our living room ended up being so unlevel. Very happy with the final results. Thanks a million!!!!

Y and J did a complete renovation of my property. They transformed a disaster into a showplace. Rarely do you find the kind meticulous craftsmanship and excellence displayed by this company. The scope of the job included carpentry, wiring, plumbing, painting, lighting, installing tile, appliances, ceiling fans, and decorating. The finished product is a work of art. Thanks for a job well done from a delighted customer.

Mitchell did an excellent job on our kitchen remodel. He was on time, courteous, and professional. He arrived on time and got to work immediately. We had him install a glass tile backsplash, hang cabinets, and install an over-the-range microwave. He went above and beyond by also trimming our blinds once he tiled the window box. I will be calling him again for our future remodeling projects!

Mr. Newman was great in all aspects of the job. He helped educate us as to what would be the best flooring for people who have dogs. We were concerned about dog nails scratches and the sound of walking on it. He's not a pushy salesperson and delivers a quality product and professional installation. We picked a modern look in ceramic tile that looks like wood for our livingroom and resilient vinyl, wood look for our bedrooms. We couldn't be happier with how beautiful it looks and I am not worried the dogs will damage it. Start to finish Marty was on time and got the job done fast. Even when we had issues like our floors having old vinyl underneath and the bedrooms not being level, he took care of it with no extra charge to us. He was great at communicating and keeping in touch even after the job was done and paid for. If you want the job done right with no hassles and speedy installation I recommend you choose this company, you won't be disappointed.

Exceeded all expectations! CDL is extremely professional, timely and their attention to detail is amazing. Once I saw the craftsmanship and work ethic of the guys, I requested additional work, which they tackled with no problem. They worked tirelessly for 8-10 hours each day and left my home every day with their entire work area clean and organized. I would recommend this company to all family and friends for any/all stone and tile work. Craig and Q - amazing, amazing work! Thank you!

It was great to have Chris from Hydroshield work on my bathroom tile grout. The condition of my grout at the shower was in such poor shape that I was considering re-tiling the shower walls. Hydroshield was able to clean and shield the grout thus by rescuing my shower tiles! The difference was night and day! The service and curtesy from Chris was too notch. I highly recommend anyone looking to get their grout cleaned or any shower glass protected and "rescued" for a fraction of what it would cost to replace.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.
