Our experience with Kate was phenomenal! She cooked a delicious meal for 15 people. 5 teen girls and 10 adults. A vegetarian, a gluten free, and my husband that doesn't like white creamy sauces! She was able to make a delicious meal that we could all enjoy and didn't have to skimp on anything! Our first coursed was her watermelon gazpacho- BIG success! EVERYONE couldn't stop talking about it! Second course Edamame hummus with chips and a bursts and tomato salad. So good! Our main dish was a Pork Wellington that was moist and so delicious! We had some mushrooms and caramelized cauliflower that was simple but so full of flavor we all just raced at the exquisite taste and how it paired so well with the Wellington. For dessert L, Kate prepared a vegetarian/gluten free chocolate mouse and a to die for pastel de calabaza! My husband and I enjoyed it so much that we have asked Kate to come back in June to cook for us again before our daughters graduation for a small family gathering. We can't wait for that dinner! We highly recommend Kate. She was so careful to listen to our special dietary needs and suggested our menu to reflect her care.

We had a wonderful time in our cooking class with Linda. Before we got together, she did an awesome job honing in our goals, which were to learn how to prepare some quick, tasty, and healthy meals as we are both very busy and trying to eat better. The meals she taught us to prepare couldn’t have been more perfect –delicious yet simple and practical for our schedules. In addition to showing us some new and tasty meals, she taught us other various cooking skills and was more than happy to answer all of our questions. It was an excellent experience not only because of what we learned, but because Linda is a lovely, fun person. We highly recommend her classes for your own cooking needs or as a gift for others! (as it was a gift for us)

Roy was incredibly helpful, professional, flexible, and most importantly: made great food! We had a small wedding on Lake Austin in July and wanted "upscale BBQ." We ordered wood-fired brisket from a vendor, but we worked with Roy to create a fresh menu of sides that would appeal to a wide array of appetites, from kids (mac and cheese with a twist), to Vegans, to gluten free. He provided all servingware and utensils, and was there to set up and serve, and help with clean-up. I would highly recommend Roy for any of your needs!

Julie did a great job catering our wedding. She brought great, attentive staff and made delicious white fish and lamb skewers. She worked really well with our wedding planner. It felt like we had the dream team on our side. I really can't recommend her enough. She was easy to get along with, provided plenty of tasty food, and listened to our feedback. We also had folks at our wedding (including myself) with special diet requirements (vegan, vegetarian, dairy free, and gluten free) and she was able to accommodate them all. I would hire her again in a heartbeat.

Amanda is awesome! Whether you're looking for healthy meal prep/delivery or just need someone to cater a dinner with friends at your house -- she can handle it! Amanda prepares all of my meals and delivers them to me weekly, so I always know that I have delicious and healthy meals ready when it is time to eat. I just grab the labeled containers that she leaves in my refrigerator, and I'm ready to go. I have almost no time to prepare food, so this is extremely valuable to me. Amanda discusses my tastes and cravings, and designs a custom meal plan that is delicious and well-balanced. She has opened my eyes to so many healthy alternatives to foods that I love and to all sorts of new things that I never thought I would like. She always answers my questions and is really thoughtful in making sure I enjoy each meal and have something delicious for each day of the week. I can't recommend Amanda enough -- she truly helps me live a healthy lifestyle, and has even taught me how to prepare healthy meals for myself. I also had Amanda cater a dinner with friends, and it was such a great experience. She interacted with everyone and explained what she was doing. It was like a cooking class for all of us. Her gluten-free baked goods are phenomenal, and you definitely have to try her Cashew "Sour Cream" Sauce and vegan enchiladas! Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, paleo, gluten free, raw, etc, Amanda knows her stuff and will work with you to create some of the most delicious (and nutritious) foods you will ever eat.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
