    (12 reviews)

My name is Shabana Bhai. I'm 29 and a female. I have a clean background check and clean driving record. I am a nonsmoker and nondrinker. I am patient, skilled, and I have the ability to teach. I have the have the ability to put people at ease. I am mature, persistent, punctual, and I have strong morals. I am passionate about tutoring. I am trustworthy, honest, reliable, and ethical. I am a certified EC- 6th grade teacher. I graduated Bachelor of Science in Education at Baylor University and currently taking up Masters of Education in Educational Administration HBU. I am CPR and first aid certified. I speak English, Urdu, Hindi, and Gujarati. I teach pre-school, K-12, college courses, standardized test, test preparation, professional resume building and much more. I teach the following subjects: * pre-school -- reading, writing, math, vocabulary, fine motor skills, sight words, arts and crafts, sensorial, practical, and social skills * grade K-5 -- English, language arts, reading, mathematics, science, social studies, health education, physical education and technology applications * grade 6-8 -- English, language arts, fine arts, health, mathematics, physical education, science, social studies, and technology * grade 9-12 -- English I, II, III, IV, and math (algebra I, algebra II, pre-calculus, calculus, and geometry), science (biology, chemistry, and physics), social studies (world geography, US history, world history, US government, and economics), and speech (communication application), and health (principals of health science), and electives * standardized tests -- MCAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT, TOEFEL, TOEIC, IELTS, STAAR (all grade levels) * college applications, scholarship essays, college application essays and much more I offer in-home tutoring and online via TeamViewer or at the University Branch Library. I have many reasons for loving what I do. Helping students achieve their potential, adapting to kids individual needs, building lasting relationships based on shared goals -- these are all good reasons to become a tutor. But I've recently become aware of another incredible quality of tutoring: it blends several compelling endeavors into something bigger and more rewarding.Tutoring merges education and what is usually called "enrichment". For some reason, enrichment activities are increasingly seen as trivial or excessive. Our culture's efforts to improve education through more rigorous standards and efficiency have detracted from the richness of our students' education. A good tutor can help counteract these forces by infusing lessons with a wider sense of context and humanity. A tutor can combine subjects in interdisciplinary projects, incorporate the student's interests and creativity, stay constantly attuned to the student's self-image, and model a broader conception of learning that involves all of our senses, exploration, tolerance, and dialogue. The proximate goal may still be to raise the student's grade from a B to an A, but the process can be richly constructed to get at something deeper.

My area of expertise is helping elementary students who are experiencing difficulty, or who need extra support in reading, writing, language or math. Tutoring services that I provide are: * Tutoring for elementary age (PK-5) students in reading, writing, language (grammar and spelling) and math * Homework and project assistance * TAKS and other state tests preparation * Study and organizational skills and habits Why I tutor: I am an encouraging, well-organized and energetic teacher who is passionate about each child's education and success. Along with teaching, I have been tutoring students for more than 6 years now, and have seen significant progress in each child's academic success, as well as in their confidence in themselves. My favorite part about tutoring children is the opportunity to provide them with one-on-one instruction that they oftentimes do not receive in the classroom, and over a period of time, having the privilege to witness their academic growths in all subjects. I also differentiate my instruction to meet each child's individual needs and unique learning styles. Here are my tutoring goals: My goal through private tutoring is to see each child excel and be successful in the classroom and beyond. In order to do that, I strive to: * provide them with valuable instruction in a fun, caring and positive learning environment * supply them with encouraging affirmations, so they can gain self-confidence and belief in themselves * equip them with helpful organizational skills, tips and techniques, to advance their learnings and increase their successes in school * challenge them to build skills, habits and attitudes which they need to succeed in school * motivate them to take a personal responsibility towards their learning, and to aim for higher achievement * prepare them for a solid academic foundation and a lifetime of success by helping them reach their full potentials * encourage them to have a positive attitude towards their education, and always strive to do their best

I've taken 2 years of Spanish in high school. I passed out of 2 years in college but I think I was just good at taking the test as I didn't really think I was ready for Spanish 3. My fiance is half Mexican and I'd like to learn spanish to be able to speak with her family more comfortably (some of them know English but Spanish is their first language)
