FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
All private and group dance lessons for couples are 45 minutes each, scheduled by appointment, and conducted in the dance studio. I ask all new students to start with the introductory special of 5 private dance lessons (for one couple) for $340, which breaks down to $68 per private (an exceptional deal for exclusively private dance lessons). Thereafter, privates (per couple) rate schedule is $80 for 1 dance lesson only or 1 dance lesson at a time (pay as you go); $75 each for 2 - 5 dance lessons; $70 each for 6 - 10 dance lessons. Group dance classes are $60 per couple, self-organized (i.e. you decide when the dance class meets, who the members are, and what dance style to learn), and can include anywhere from 2 to 4 couples.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For absolute beginners, I start with some simple dance patterns (what we call "school figures") and introduce basic social dancing elements. As we go along in this process, I continue to layer these elements with rotation and then add the fundamental contact points in developing a dance frame (the way partners hold and connect with each other in a dance partnership). For couples who have taken dance lessons and have some fundamental knowledge, I play a song for the desired dance style and watch them dance, stopping them periodically to correct/refine their technique and/or introduce new patterns.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started dance training in the early 1960s and have studied with some of Houston Texas' finest dancing legends. I began training with my primary dance coach, Glen Hunsucker, in 1979 and continue training with him to this very day, as well as several excellent dance instructors in the Houston area.
