I hired Crest to clear out a 500+ sqft section of my yard for garden and flower beds. This included removing several small trees and shrubs, removing stumps, digging out roots and removing sod to prep the area for new beds. The owner was professional, friendly and very responsive, and the crew was always on time and worked quickly and efficiently over two days. I was very pleased with Crest and will not hesitate to hire them again for my next project.

Robert and Sam did a wonderful job pruning my two oak trees, many crepe myrtle, trimmed all the bushes, and cut my lawn. In my opinion, what make Hawk's Tree and Lawn Service special is the way Robert and Sam do their work. They take their time to do good work, he take care of the yard as if it was his own yard, Robert would step back and use his aesthetic sensibility to see what branches of tree that need to be trim, not just finish the job and move to the next one. They did such good work, that when they were done with my yard, two of mine neighbor asked Robert to trim their trees the next day. I will definitely call Hawk's Tree and Lawn Service again to help me with future job. It is very nice to see individual who took pride in their work, and did it with such integrity!

Erick did a fabulous job this evening. He cleaned up everything that the previous lawn person had neglected and I can open my blinds to view my lawn again! He also did an extra job for me--fixed my fence. A panel had fallen down and he went ahead and fixed it for many $$$ less than fence repair. I am looking forward to having him take care of my lawn every two weeks. Excellent. Highly recommend!

Jeff is an outstanding and knowledge gardener who is anxious to educate and help his clients. He is very good at follow up and even make house calls to see how the plants are doing. He transformed our summer garden into a fall garden with annuals and it will look great until April. His creativity was welcomed and we have a unique pattern of flowers. He is excellent at checking for soil, water and sun elements to determine which plants go where. He is a quiet worker, cleans up and purchases the plants. We are very pleased with his efforts to make our yard look special. He is also very well informed about perennials and recommends those to serve as a backdrop to the annual color. He keeps the client preferences and their budget in mind. We would not hesitate to recommend Jeff Payne to others.

Baldi did an awesome job with my landscape project. We built a new home and the builder did a terrible job with the front yard. We hired Baldi and redid the yard using most of our old shrubs and plants with a few new shrubs added. They were prompt, professional, and reasonably priced.

I purchased my home a year ago with the knowledge that the previous owner had never run the sprinkler system despite being in the home for 7+ years. My home inspector also could not tell me what was wrong with the system. When I decided it was time to see how much trouble it would be to fix it Bruce responded quickly and came over and determined what the issue was. By the next time he came out later in the week he resloved the problem and I now have a full functioning sprinkler system at a great cost.

Great bunch of guys. They work hard, very professional and good people. They have performed various jobs (lawn care, garden prep, clearing the gardens, assistance in plants larger plants, removal of shrubs and tree trimming, stone sidewalks, paver patio and fire pit) for me at reasonable rates. Couldn’t ask for a better group to handle my yard jobs.

I have used a lot of different landscaping services through the years and Blumen Landscaping & Garden Maintenance is over the top. They are not just about weekly service: mow, weed eat, trim, grab the money and move onto the next house . They actually know what to pick where to plant and most importantly how to plant properly. We revamped much of my landscape design and they worked with me with plant selection. Can’t wait for everything to grow into our vision. I was so pleased with their service, I chose to use them as well for replacement of my existing grass to Cavalier Zoysia. Very pleased with how all of that went & at reasonable costs.

I would recommend them, and will be using David to do the weekly yard / garden work on my house.. Thanks guys, Dave

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
