Stephen did a fantastic job of cleaning the very grimy tile & grout flooring in one of my rentals. I even threw in a last minute request that he handled without a problem. He's now my go to guy for future cleaning!

I am so happy with Mr. Gamez and his crew! They came in and did tape and bed and textured the whole upstairs that we have rebuilt in our 1892 farmhouse. He was very knowledgeable, professional and absolutely timely with it all. It all turned out better than I could have imagined. I highly, highly recommend him and his work. We even added two bathroom tile jobs for him and the work started the next day. Seriously satisfied with work, price, and professionalism.

There is nothing bad to say about this company. Carlos showed up on time to clean the carpets and sofa/chairs in our office waiting room, and did a FANTASTIC job. He was so thorough, took his time, and worked very hard. The sofa and chairs looked new, and the carpets were brighter and smelled so good. His prices are very reasonable. We had him back to clean the carpets in the office next door, as well as to clean the tile and grout in our restrooms. Will definitely use him again!

I was completely impressed with Rossy's service. First thing, she was easy to work with on booking, very competitive on rates and was very prompt to confirm appointment time and date when scheduled date was getting close. Even in icy road conditions, Rosy still showed up on time and was ready to complete the move out cleaning on my 1,000 sq. ft. apartment. She was very thorough when cleaning and in a timely manner as well. I was able to run a few errands while Rosy cleaned. The apartment was in better cleaning condition then when I moved in. Great personality and easy to communicate with as well. Highly recommended and will be using Rosy on a regular basis at my new place.

Mason was the most professional Carpet Care technician that I've ever had clean and care for my carpets. Zerorez cleaned the 2 years prior, he showed me all of the foam residue that was left in my carpets from them. He also cleaned the tile and grout in bathroom that Zero couldn't clean. One last thing, there was an area in my living room (3' x 2') in front of sofa that Zero said would never come clean, guess what its clean now! He gives only a 30 minute window and he was ahead of schedule. Give him a try, you wont be disappointed.

Roberto and his team did a great job of doing a complete renovation of a condo for me. The job was completed faster than promised. They did two full bathroom renovations and a full kitchen renovation. Everything looked great and Roberto and his team added some little bonus touches that I didn't expect. Everything was cleaned up very nicely when the job was complete.

My husband and I needed our entire bathroom and part of our master bedroom space redone and reconstructed. Gary was able to start right away, and we trusted him fully to work throughout the day in our home without us there. The project ended up being so much more work than we originally intended as our floor joints had to be completely replaced due to rot. Gary was patient with the project and his prices were very reasonable. He was very adept at framing the space (we moved several walls), and he was knowledgeable about every step of the construction project. Ultimately, the project called for him to utilize a very diverse skill set, including foundation work, carpentry, framing, structural re-enforcement, drywall work, electricity, plumbing, carpentry, patching wood floors, door and baseboard trim, tiling, cabinetry, and hanging a shower door. During the project, we even expanded our project past his comfort zone in a several areas (namely vaulting the ceiling and using a non-water based grout boost mixer for intricate tile work), but he was flexible with every step and achieved a result that looks stunning. Outside of the technical side, I want to commend Gary's communication, honesty, and professionalism. It was evident that he took a great deal of ownership in the project, and that showed in his responsiveness and willingness to communicate with us. There were mornings that he would get there and show us fixtures that he had been researching after he had gone home the night before. He was very responsive whenever we had a question, and he would send us updates throughout the day while we were at work. Obviously there are ups and downs with any contractor and major house project; I have never once heard of a perfect home renovation story. But Gary worked with us through any frustrating moments with grace and professionalism, which is often rare to find. Ultimately, we would hire Gary again for future projects, and we love our final result. Our bathroom is simply beautiful and we have gotten so many compliments already.

Ever did a great job repairing the ceiling drywall/sheetrock in my garage. He was on time and got the work done quickly. The drywall was starting to fall down from the ceiling in various areas and he was able to repair it and fix the seams so it looks like a brand new ceiling. We were so impressed with the work that while he was there we asked if he could give us a quote to replace our back door and the frame where some of the wood is damaged. I highly recommend Ever and obviously would hire him again.

Nathaniel responded quickly to my post. Even though the company name doesn't sound like the place to call for housecleaning, I liked his personal statement and decided to give it a try. I was having friends over and just needed someone to come and clean the downstairs living areas and half bath. Nathaniel came by to get instructions one evening, then scheduled to come the day before the event during the day while we weren't home. The cleaning was done as requested on time. If you're detail oriented, you should give very explicit instructions. For example, I didn't tell Nathaniel to clean the kitchen chairs - dusting the wood and cleaning the pet hair from the seats. So I had to do that myself before my guests arrived. Overall, the cleaning was fine and the price was right. The house smelled great and my guests were very comfortable.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
