We loved Ed! Not only was the food DELICIOUS, but the service was outstanding. Ed is a real people person, and every visit we had felt comfortable. Ed and Amazing Caterers catered for my wedding on Oct. 7th 2016. All my guests loved the food and variety Amazing Caterers offer, and I even had the chefs checking on myself; always asking if I needed anything throughout the night. Ed also went above and beyond for us, and got us a quote and set up for flatware 3 days before the wedding when a crisis had hit! Thank you Ed, and thank you Amazing Caterers!!

Tatering has left an everlasting positive outlook on us of catering food. They may have set the bar a bit higher now than others. His team is very professional and so polite. The venue we used even called me begging for his contact info. Her reason was that they we the most professional and organized company that they've seen in 24 years.

Chef Luke was the perfect choice for my mother's 91st and son's 40th birthday dinner. He walked into the house, took charge, and I knew everything was going to go well. I liked his confidence and can-do attitude. He was personable and had great stories to tell. His timing was perfect and he served a magnificent dinner. I hope to have him back. My husband and I hired Chef Cassy for the preparation and service of a 3-hour, buffet-style brunch for 25 people in our home. Strong Points - Food was delicious. People loved the unique fried collard greens. Fried chicken was also delish. - Overall strong presentation and professionalism – Chef Cassy wore her chef's attire, her assistant was dressed all in black; both were very client service oriented (e.g. adapted to a minor last minute request easily); catered to the guests and the room by regularly refilling glasses and cleaning the tables; and had great positive energy. It's important for us to have people in our presence/ home with whom we can vibe, who are pleasant, and positive. - Kitchen spotless at the end of the job - Chef Cassy worked to have the pricing accommodate our budget. We ended up spending a little more than we wanted to, but thought that it was a reasonable total price. Areas for Improvement: - Food service (buffet style) could probably have been streamlined with pre-arrival food preparation. The delays were manageable and not really noticed by our guests (who were chatting, drinking, etc.) but it could have been smoother. - Had I known people were going to love the food so much (especially the chicken) I would have ordered more... most guests went back for seconds. Chef Cassy should have told me how amazing the food would be so I’d known to order extra!

Working with Tiffaney was amazing!! I set up a tasting with her first and she came in with her sous chef and executed as if it was the actual event, I couldn't have asked for more! The food tasted amazing and the presentation was beautiful. I was doing a corporate event in a Dallas but live and work in NJ and Tiffaney made everything easy for me. She was the first one to respond to my inquiry and her responsiveness continued through the whole process. Her team executed beautifully as well. She remained calm and confident when any obstacles came up. I would highly recommend her for any and every event!! I can't wait to do another event in Dallas so I can work with her again.

Leigh, the cake chef, is absolutely amazing! I asked her if she could do something unique for my kids birthday!!!! She not only understood my kids favorite things in life but worked within our budget limitations!!!! She made cakes that received so many compliments from my family and guests at our parties! We selected the expresso chocolate with ganache roasted pecan and French vanilla with strawberry and cream cheese...sugar cookies and cake pops......Couldn't be more beautiful & unique and sooo moist & delicious. Above that, talking and working with Leigh was a pleasure, she is a sweetheart! She is definitely a keeper for my future family events!!!!!

Chef Tony Teems is a true professional in his unique talent as a Chef among the best of Chefs. In the planning of our 5 hour event at the Crystal Rose Hall in Los Angeles from the beginning to the end, Chef Teems was very thorough and particular in the details of what we wanted for our special Wedding Anniversary event. He was most professional in how he handled every aspect of our event from the food and drink to the color decor of the serving tables which was beautiful. Chef Teems gave us a feeling that our event was just as special to him as it was to us. We cannot express to anyone how delicious the food was that he prepared for us. You would need to taste for yourself to truly experience and appreciate his great talent and to actually taste how much time was involved in creating the meal. On the night of our event, he not only made us feel very special, but he traveled the room making every one of our guests feel just as special ensuring that they we enjoying the food. He put forth every effort in making sure everything he did was to our perfection and we were truly satisfied with his service. Many of our guests contacted us after our event to express how much they truly enjoyed the food and his special red punch. They were excited about having him cater their future events. We have no doubt that he will draw a large amount of business from our event. We take proud in recommending Chef Tony Teems to anyone that would consider requesting the service of a caterer that is on a mission everytime he is retained. If you want perfection on your event, Chef teems is the person you want and need to contact. Aleck & Veronica Herbert

Highly recommended! They provided my wife and I with everything I needed for my event for 800 people. They also gave me a really great deal and were very flexible with my budget. On thumbtack I went through many catering companies and all of them were either overpriced or the food quality was below average. In addition I loved how they provided me a beverage bar with Hibiscus based drinks and organic lemonades. I especially loved their Lavender Cheesy Bread and Cherry Lime Hibiscus. Servers and Owners were prompt and the bartending service specialized in specialty cocktails that were smoked or traditional. Either way Spiced Lavender Catering is very professional and very fast to respond on any questions that I had. Also they are great for casual or high end venues that include weddings and corporate events. I cant thank them enough for saving me alot of stress at the last moment and they exceeded my expectation in everything from food to the exceptional service. Again I also cant thank them enough for being flexible with my timing and budget. Thanks Chef Nina.

I arranged for Cari to host a cooking event for my husband's birthday. My husband loves to cook, so instead of using her as a personal chef, she taught my husband and my mother-in-law how to make homemade ravioli and cannoli. She was incredibly patient and helpful and they thoroughly enjoyed the evening. In the end, I enjoyed the dinner. Big thanks to Cari!

I had never hired a caterer online before and was nervous about doing so for an important lunch with prospective clients, but I am SO HAPPY that I hired Evan and his team to cater our lunch event at work last Saturday! We were all blown away by the mini spinach and artichoke dip bites, the smoked brisket and chicken and the beer battered mac and cheese balls...wish I could get some more of this delicious food right now :-)! Our prospective clients were from the west coast, and chef Evan sure managed to give them a taste of Texas that they'll never forget. Best of all, they signed on with us as new clients - I truly think that it was partly due to the warm hospitality and good cooking of the BITE catering. Next time I have an event, business or personal, I definitely know who I'll be calling to cater it - chef Evan and his amazing team. Thanks so much!!!!

It was a real pleasure working with Lisa. She is very professional and most of all she's a very personable and pleasant young lady. I could depend on her to have a menu that catered to a nice variation of food choices. My order was taken and delivered to me on time as I had ordered . She was dressed professionally with the logo on her t-shirt. Now about the food, it was absolutely delicious each meal was individually prepared as opposed to just being dished out from a larger dish. The portion size was excellent and really convenient for me and my husband. We could each select what we liked. The food was always freshly made. I will continue to use Lisa as our personal chef and also if I need an event catered. I have recommended her to several people.

The food was amazing, I hired him for mothers day for my mom so she wouldnt have to cook or clean. My mom is one of the most pickiest when it comes to her food and she absolutely loved everything Chef Roger and his wife prepared for her. They were very friendly and fit in with my family just perfect. I will be using Chef Roger again for other events in the future and I highly recommend him for your events as well. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

    • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
    • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
    • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
    • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
    • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
    • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
