Experience, ability and versatility allow me to create murals, faux finishing, decorative painting, hand lettering and commissioned artwork that exceed customer expectations. I've been a commercial artist throughout my life and have been an illustrator for the State of Florida, a graphic designer for Gannett Newspaper, a theatrical set designer--now I create huge works of art...I'm blessed!
What do I love about my job? Meeting new customers and creating new things. One day I'm working on a large mural, the next day I'm painting a small mural, and the next week I'm faux finishing or hand lettering. I love the variety of my job...each job is as unique as the customers I create them for. When I'm finished, I get to enjoy the response of my customer!

Tom listened to our ideas about what we wanted on our wall. He then came up with ideas and presented them to us. He worked very well with the changes we wanted until he came up with a final rendering that we all loved. During the project, he continually asked if we were happy with the way it was progressing. When he completed the mural, he then asked again about any details we would like and/or changes and he did everything we asked. The mural came out amazing and we have had nothing but compliments.

He painted a mural on the outside of our garage and it turned out fantastic. He was very professional & courteous. Our 200 pound mastiff, Drogo adored him. Would rehire him without a second thought.

Because the mural was painted on an open ground floor of a stilt house in Galveston, protecting it from the elements became very important. I chose an exterior, high-quality product that will protect the mural from humidity, UV and, most importantly, harsh sea air for years to come.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I want to work with customers to stay within budget, so knowing what you have to spend can be very helpful. Once I ask a few questions then I'm ready to provide a solid price based on the project. A price based on the project is absolutely the best way to go because the customer knows EXACTLY what the project will cost from the beginning and the price will not change, unless the customer adds to or changes the scope of the project.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, respond to their request through Thumbtack, and include some samples of my work. I always ask to speak to them by phone, however, text can work but takes more effort for the customer. I like the phone because I can ask my questions quickly, the customer and I can clarify details more concisely, and a quote can be developed very fast. Also, the customer can tell a lot about me during the call based on my demeanor and the quality of questions that I ask.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in art education that includes lots of studio art classes as well as training in art history. Additionally, I have worked as a commercial artist, an illustrator, a draftsman, a theatrical set builder, and a fine artist throughout my life. All of these experiences, coupled with 14 years of mural painting makes me who I am.
