Enoch Electric responded to my request for service quickly and scheduled my appointment with a very short lead time. I was given the name of the technician who was coming and also the timeframe. Amanda was very pleasant to deal with and she was considerate and professional. Andrew confirmed my appointment, reiterated the time and the technician coming. He also explained the payment procedure. Memo, the technician, arrived on time. He was personable, polite and professional. He completed the job in a very timely manner, asked if I had any questions and if I was happy with the installation. He told me to call if I had any questions or concerns. Andrew followed up after the job was completed, made sure I was satisfied with the job and explained the invoice he was sending. All in all, from initial contact to job completion, my experience with every person I dealt with at Enoch was made simple, accommodated my needs and was a job well done. I recommend Enoch with absolutely no reservations. In addition, the cost was well below what other companies quoted me.

My central A/C unit broke. Brandon with A Team Mechanical is a fantastic, professional person. He came in respectfully, explained things I may need to know about my now working unit. I highly recommend this company. More. He explained what he needed to do, what he could do, and how much it would cost before he started on the unit (after the initial inspection). As far as the cost, I absolutely did not believe he was gouging me on parts. Brandon cleaned up after himself--even closed the closet door. I asked him to cover the old repair company sticker on the unit with his company sticker. I will call for A Team Mechanical in the fall. More. Brandon came to my house, three days before a large heat wave with 105ºF temperatures. I wrote my request for help on Thumbtack about 6:45 a.m., I received a call from Jason at 7:01 a.m. (like he was waiting for the best time). I know these guys are swamped. But, Brandon came out the same morning! Great team. Call them yourself and find out what a great, knowledgable bunch they are.

My new go to AC guy! Shawn came out on a Sunday when most companies were charging $200+ dollars just to come out plus any services that needed to be done. His price was reasonable. He walked me through everything he was doing and let me know what was absolutely necessary to have my AC running again and what could wait to be fixed until a later date. He completed the work quickly and was very honest and forthcoming. We had a larger company out last year to service out AC and they came up with thousands of dollars of repairs that we needed. I much prefer hiring a family owned small business with ethics than a big box company who's just out to take your money.

Needed to have my heat pump serviced as my a/c condenser unit was icing over. Accepted Triangle's bid and really glad I did. Everything they said they were going to do, starting with showing up right on time. After diagnosing the problem, they came back the next day (as they said they would) and fixed my problem in less than an hour. Trustworthy people that want to save you money, as evidenced by their great service fee. Best compliment I can give is to give a referral. If you need a/c service, be sure to reach out to Roy at Triangle!

I feel like i got a great product at a competitive price. Installers were quick, polite, and tidy. I removed an old window unit that cooled an enclosed greenroom and replaced it with a ductless mini split system. I don't know how well the cooling works yet, but the heat is great and it is a very quite system. Only thing I wish I would have know was that the system is not programable. Meaning I cannot set days and times to be certain temps. Thats a product issue not the company. Overall I'm very happy.

We had a complete heat pump system installed, along with new flexible ducts in the attic. Jon Kalp was very professional and helpful in answering my questions and explaining options. The price was very reasonable and I appreciated the detailed list of what was included in the price. The only problem we encountered was that the system would not operate in heat mode properly with the old thermostats, so Cool Tech responded by providing two new digital thermostats at no charge, even though that wasn't part of the system quote. The system has been running problem free for several months now.

We had no heat and it was a very cold day. They got to us within five hours of my first phone call. I was kept informed and the middle people were kind, friendly, and good to work with. The repair man was professional, knowledgeable, and had a good work ethic. And at the end the price was very reasonable especially for a weekend, last minute call. I was very impressed and will definitely call again.

I never thought I'd be ranting and raving about a plumbing company but I've told so many people how good it was to work with SWAN. Amazing customer service & communication. And helped us solve our plumbing issue for a very fair price. Worked late to squeeze us in. Just all around a great experience, which is so important when your family is going through the stress of plumbing issues & not having water. We worked with/spoke to several plumbing companies and yall were by far the best. Thank you Jordan & team!

This company is great! As a single mother, and not knowing a lot about air conditioning, many companies seem to overcharge but me with them they sat down with me and explained what the problem was and because of the the company established trust with me. As far as the work they worked diligently and quietly at the time best for my schedule. The price they charged was reasonable. This is someone I will be calling again for future work at my house not to mention highly recommending them to family and friends.

My AC went out yesterday and I got a quote from AIRTEX and picked them because their prices were reasonable for diagnostics, and the price per lb for R410A was much cheaper than anyone else was able to quote. I was given a time of 8:30-9:30 in the morning and they arrived within the allotted time period, diagnosed the issue quickly and checked my system from the compressor outside to the heat exchange in the attic. They worked hard in the heat and completed the job in a timely manner. As for value. Hard to say, I don't know how much AC repair generally costs for the job however it seems to be in line with that people have quoted for other repairs. They also changed out my filter while they were in attic. Overall I have been very happy and will certainly use AIRTEX again should I have any other issues. I feel my system is now going to be able to get me through another Texas summer.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

  • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
  • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
  • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
  • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
  • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
  • Cleaning and oiling the blower
  • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
  • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
  • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

  • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
    • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
  • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
  • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
  • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000
