Great guy and overall experience. He was polite and informative, as I asked questions about other projects in the house. I would recommend him to anyone. Look forward to working with him again.

I am very happy with the plumbing job Dan McCracken did in our house and will keep him for any future repairs we need. Outstanding job for very reasonable price.

I had a leak under my raised house under my kitchen sink. Juan worked with my schedule and came the same day. It is fixed with no problems. He also took a look at my dishwasher for me. Over all, great experience and highly recommend him. I will be calling him back if I ever have any other plumbing issues.

World of Painting did a great job on our house today. They came out and did the estimate and were able to start work same day. They were polite and professional and very reasonable on price! We will use them again for sure. We are already talking about a future job for flooring.

I had Frank, and his company, out to install wood floors in my new house in Royse City. He quoted me a two day installation time, and it was completed the first day with some touch up stuff the second day. 380 Flooring definitely takes pride in their work, and it certainly shows that. The company was on time everyday, and the installation looks great. The prices are a little bit higher than competitive places, but the extra money is definitely worth it. 380 Flooring really has a family-run feel to it, and I definitely do not mind paying slightly more for that and not to be BS'ed around, but the pricese were above what we could have spent had we gone with someone else. Another complaint of mine is this review process. Frank and his company has been rather pushy with getting this review done. Its a double edge sword though. On one hand, if you are going to give a bad review Frank will do everything in his power to ensure that you are satisfied as a customer. On the other hand, he pushes a little too hard to get a review up on this site. I can't really blame the guy, but I wish he would let more of his work speak for itself! Overall, great experience, and my floor looks FANTASTIC. I'm very pleased with the work that 380 Flooring has done, and I cannot wait to hire them to work on future projects.

I had a long to-do list, and Larry worked through it all. He did everything from changing batteries in smoke detectors to assembling a crib to installing a new shower head. He also offered solutions/suggestions for several future projects, so he will be coming back soon to get those jobs done. He worked quickly and continuously, and I felt comfortable with just the two of us in the house.

I wanted crown molding in my new house but after checking with friends, I could not locate someone whose reputation would put my mind at ease. I was aware of Angie's List and Home Advisor but did not like what it took to get a simple quote. So I tried Thumbtack and it has been a wonderful experience from start to finish. Within 10 to 15 minutes Ruben Pardo sent me a message seeking additional information about my project. He was extremely responsive and helped me figure out what I actually wanted. He quoted 3 prices as options. I could buy the molding and have it on site and he would install it. Or he would purchase the molding and install it. Lastly, I opted for choice number 3 which was his obtaining the molding, installing it, and doing the final caulking and painting. His brother arrive on time to take measurements and then Ruben arrived with another worker. Ruben's crew was fast and the finished product for the downstairs was done in about 5 hours. It looks beautiful. His crew and he cleaned up, accepted a check for the agreed amount and gave me some great information about my kitchen cabinets. So if you have a carpentry type project, want a fair and stable price, excellent service, and very good communication, hire Ruben Pardo (North Texas Custom Trim, Co)

CJ helped me repaint my 3400 square foot home. Ceilings, walls everything. He was really great to work with. I called a couple references before selecting them. The price was the reason I selected them. They were well below the others and I was worried I wouldn't be happy. In full disclosure my home was empty and it probably made it easier on his crew. He also installed crown molding in my living room. I am so happy I selected them. They just came back about a month after finishing the job to clean or touch up any of the items on my tick list just like a new home builder would. When I stain my patio or instal patio blinds, I will call Carsa.

I am a commercial flooring contractor in Austin with over 15 years experience. I found Brian and Aisha on thumbtack. They executed an excellent installation at my Mother In-laws house in McKinney. They installed a superior product and provided greater service for about the same cost of big box stores. If you are on the fence or being told different information, you should highly consider using them for your project.

Very impressed with the turn around time. They contacted me and came to the house the same day I posted the project. The next morning they were here to install the carpet. The crew was very professional and helped move large furniture out of the way with ease. Everything went smooth and they worked hard until the job was completed. Love my carpet and the way it looks. I would definitely recommend them.

He was on time, he was very quick at removing old toilet and replacing with a new one . He was very neat, he boxed up the old toilet so no one has to know what is in the box. He installed the new one with perfection. The new one looks like it was installed when the house was being built. I really love the quality . He did an excellent job and is very clean!

Francisco is wonderful to work with. He is very conscientious and takes pride in his work. He listened to what I wanted and worked efficiently and meticulously. He painted most of the inside of my new house, and I kept adding areas I wanted to be done. He worked long hours on this project and we are very happy with his work. He is also a friendly and personable worker who goes to great lengths to make sure you are happy with his work. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Overall Manny did a great job. He and his team do 5 star work. All of the work he did in my house is wonderful and I get several compliments. My doors, my sheet rock, my paint, and my fireplace are all beautiful. My only feedback is on communication. There were a few slight hiccups in communication that delayed some projects, and a few times I was told something would be done on a certain day, and it oftentimes was done later than that. And I really never knew if or when people would be showing up to do work. But I would recommend Manny and his team to anyone who asked because I really am very happy with my results. Thank you!

Jose was great, I had called 5 other irrigation specialists and had no responses, the one I did get hold of was not accepting new clients. Jose got back to me immediately and was at my house within 2 hours to evaluate the problem. He was then back the next morning to fix it with little mess. We will keep

Those guys are awesome. They fixed my house up really nice and helped me repair most of it instead of replacing it. It was the difference between $3,000 and $12,000. I will be passing their business card on. Thanks!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
