Introduction: I specialize in teaching beginners to learn sight-reading quickly and well. Giving students music which is a bit of a challenge but not a difficult struggle keeps them motivated and wanting to continue their lessons because they are enjoyable. Having a degree in piano and music theory as well as long term experience gives me a much broader range of repertoire, depth of analysis of theory, and teaching methods to increase technique and artistry, I thoroughly enjoy watching piano students learn and grow in their love of music played on this wonderful instrument, and the pleasure they feel when performing for their families and friends.

I love working with Kathy. I am a trade school instructor and I can tell that the methods Kathy uses are very effective. Kathy has been a terrific teacher for my son. She's clearly able to differentiate her instruction for him depending on how the lesson is going - when he's losing focus, she brings him back gently, and when he needs to show her "his music" for a while, she pays close attention. She gives lots of positive reinforcement and knows that with a beginning learner, developing a love for the instrument is more important than following lock-step through a lesson. She's impressed us with her professionalism and with her genuine love for her students!
