"Roxanne Green is the owner of Dancemobile which originated in 1991 to bring dance, tumbling, and performing arts classes to schools. Roxanne also teaches private lessons to children and adults in homes and studios. She is available to choreograph and instruct ballroom dances for special events such as weddings, Sweet 16s, and Quinceneras. Roxanne has danced since the age of 2 and performed in The Nutcracker Ballet at the age of 3 as one of Mother Ginger's children in a collaboration with Isabel McKenna's studio and Houston Ballet. She was also chosen to dance with Patrick Swayze in Sleeping Beauty. She has a Bachelors of Performing Arts degree from Oklahoma City University where she was a member of the American Spirit Dance Company under the direction of Jo Rowan. She performed in the Marie Osmond & Bros. Show where she also co-choreographed a dance for the opening. She danced in the Vic Damone show, Victor Costa fashion show, and many musicals, some of which were held at the 1894 Grand Opera House in Galveston. Roxanne has choreographed musicals and operettas and danced in a Spanish movie "The Marianao Kid." She placed 16th in a worldwide tap competition judged by Charles "Honi" Coles, Savion Glover, Brenda Buffalino, and Lynn Daly. In one of those crazy unexpected life moments, Roxanne recently taught a quick tap lesson to Val Chmerkovskiy, one of the dance instructors on DWTS. Roxanne choreographs high school musicals and pageants and enjoys working with all ages and choreographing group dances. She has years of teaching experience and choreography under her belt. Roxanne always takes pride in her work and loves to spread the knowledge of dance as well as see the joy on her students' faces as they learn. In order to work in day cares and private schools, Roxanne completes criminal background checks and FBI fingerprinting on a regular basis. She is also required to keep up to date on CPR and First Aid certification. There is no certification for dance instructors. This is why Roxanne received her Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma City University in their very prestigious program and continues her dance training on a regular basis."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do you wear to swing dance lessons?

Swing dance is an increasingly popular style of ballroom dance with a dress code that reflects its roots in the 1920s-1940s jazz era. Although many studios don’t require historically accurate costumes for their private dance lessons, many dancers want to dress the part. You can wear clothes that are comfortable to move — and sweat — in, such as T-shirts and loose skirts or khakis. Or for an appropriately vintage look, women often wear shirt dresses with a knee-length A-line or circle skirt that allows for plenty of swishy movement. Men usually opt for a button-down shirt and trousers. The most important part of a swing dance outfit is the shoes. Both men and women can opt for simple sneakers, like Keds, or leather dance shoes, such as saddle shoes. Until you have several dance lessons under your belt, stay away from heels.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
