Excellent Job! Five minutes after I posted my request, Thumbtack sent me contact info for a qualified technician to repair my refrigerator. I called Angel Rosado at 9am Monday and he fit me in to diagnose the problem at 3pm. He spent 30 minutes going through each component and determined the problem was a computer board. He came back at noon on Tuesday and replaced the cpu and also fixed a small hidden leak dripping in the back of the refrigerator. He cleaned up and the charges were extremely reasonable. 90 day parts/labor warranty too. I am extremely pleased with Angels' work. In a word... outstanding!

Carl came in early (which was great), diagnosed the issue and let me know that I needed a new kitchen faucet. Everything took about an hour. I will be calling him for to take a look at my refrigerator in the next couple of weeks. Thanks Carl.

We hired Jonathan to repair and expand our deck. We were told it would take three days and he stood by his word. He was professional, courteous, and his work exceeded our expectations.

Had an overall good experience with Frankie’s. Courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. Did call before he came by but was a little later than anticipated. Also was a little expensive in my opinion considering how long he was there, but I realize that may be normal for refrigerator repair. Would definitely recommend and use again.

He diagonsed the job. He had to change out an inverter board. But, I had him do additional electrical work for compliance. Then, after changing out the inverter board, he was able to determine that my freon was very low. So he added approximately 3 lbs. of freon. Parts were in warranty. But labor is not cheap.

Felipe Garcia and team member, Scotty, were absolutely amazing. They showed up on time, and were as professional, efficient, and courteous as any home professional repair company I have ever worked with. Felipe's pricing beat five other estimates substantially. They remained on site to make certain everything worked properly that primarily included replacement of a hot water heater. If you are looking for solid workmanship, no 'upselling techniques', honesty -- all at an extremely fair price, then look no further than Felipe Garcia. Oh, all of the above with same day service -- within two hours of my first outreach on Thumbtack.

We hired David at Mi Tierra to cover our filled-in pool with a lueder stone patio as well as doing some retaining wall repair and brick work. He is very honest, informative and always kept in touch and oversaw the work being done to make sure it was what we wanted. Everything went remarkably smoothly, especially considering that our courtyard is enclosed and difficult to access. The crew was professional, friendly and respectful. The results are beautiful- we are very happy with the new patio and are asking Mi Tierra to do another project.

Anyways, Thumbtack.com put me in touch with TOM ZYMOWSKI, 512 815 2301 and he is amazing and so affordable. He just replaced two smoke alarms, replaced 1 thermostat, replaced 2 toilet valves, repaired a loose porch light fixture FLUSHED the water heater, repaired a stuck window, and painted my inside garage+ tape and float ceiling for labor costs~400.00 I paid for parts. He'll be my regular annual handyman from now on. His email is reclaimyourcabinets@gmail.com.

We had a problem with our dryer on a Sunday morning. Gilbert’s quote was a bit higher than others, but he was here within the hour, which was important to me. He fixed the issue I had, then asked me questions to see if there were other issues, which it turned out, I did. He had some of the necessary parts to fix it, but not all. He did explain exactly the parts we needed and how to install them.

John was responsive, quick to address any questions or concerns, and his prices can’t be beat. He was able to repair a leaking tub that I was unable to fix on my own. I would recommend John’s Handyman Service without hesitation.

Carlos Martinez responded promptly to my request and was able to complete minor home repairs and a tenant "make-ready" for my apartment rental on time and with good results. His communication was clear and he was easy to work with. He sent before and after pictures of the key areas of work and even cleaned up the oven, which was not on the to-do list. Very nice!

I had my cabinets repainted and a repair to my ceiling. I also added on a custom shelf and some other repairs and items. Joe and his team did an awesome job including custom mixing my ceiling paint and were always willing to take on the next project I added to the list. They were always prompt and courteous. I plan on using them for more projects in the future and definitely would recommend them.

My experience with Best Handyman Austin was excellent: we received our quote right away and the price was better than we expected; the crew was consistently polite and punctual over the three day job; and the quality of the work was spotless. I had them repaint my entire condo and do some light-duty repair work like patching holes and fixing trim. I can honestly say that my place looks like new. I highly recommend Best Handyman and will use them again myself.

Nick and Zach did our bathroom backsplash, replaced a water damaged bathroom window sill, installed crown moulding in our bath and office, and repaired some damaged attic trusses. They did a great job on everything, especially the crown moulding. In fact I should probably have them come back and re-do all of the crown moulding that I did myself downstairs, since it is not nearly to their level of craftsmanship.

Eric was Professional, Fast and Affordable!! I just purchased a home build in 1968, needless to say the electrical was old. The previous owner did their own electrical work that was all messed up. So, I had A LOT of things that needed to be fixed. Eric was able to get everything done in a couple days. I was extremely impressed!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
