Demario did a great job with the tile in our new house. It took less than two hours to clean 1200+ square feet of tile with no furniture in the house (we hadn't moved in yet). I was very pleased with the price and the work performed. The tile and grout were in bad shape, and when the job was completed they looked as good as they could. The only issue I had was that it seemed like the tile and grout sealing was included in the quoted price, but was actually more. I didn't actually need to have my tile and grout sealed as I plan to remove it all, but it would have been nice to have that extra charge described as such in the original quote. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend A-1 Clean to my friends and family!

Stephen did a fantastic job of cleaning the very grimy tile & grout flooring in one of my rentals. I even threw in a last minute request that he handled without a problem. He's now my go to guy for future cleaning!

We were very satisfied with the service we received. Eziekel came out first thing in the morning- on time- the next day after calling for help. He fixed a brick that fell off of the window sill when replacing caulk around the windows. We will definitely be using his company again for any future needs. I would highly recommend! Thank you!

Mason was the most professional Carpet Care technician that I've ever had clean and care for my carpets. Zerorez cleaned the 2 years prior, he showed me all of the foam residue that was left in my carpets from them. He also cleaned the tile and grout in bathroom that Zero couldn't clean. One last thing, there was an area in my living room (3' x 2') in front of sofa that Zero said would never come clean, guess what its clean now! He gives only a 30 minute window and he was ahead of schedule. Give him a try, you wont be disappointed.

Two of my bathroom floors were rotted and falling through. Lowell came over the same day I talked to him to give me a quote. His bid was far better then anyone else's as well he sounded more knowledgeable. Him and his crew came two days later. They demoed both bathroom floors and rebuilt, sealed and tiles all in one day. The next day I saw that one bathroom had some grout crumbling. I called Lowell and he came out the next day to repair the one spot that had got wet before the grout set. It looks wonderful and I love that all my bathrooms are able to be used. I will be using Lowell for more repairs and would recommend him to everyone.

There is nothing bad to say about this company. Carlos showed up on time to clean the carpets and sofa/chairs in our office waiting room, and did a FANTASTIC job. He was so thorough, took his time, and worked very hard. The sofa and chairs looked new, and the carpets were brighter and smelled so good. His prices are very reasonable. We had him back to clean the carpets in the office next door, as well as to clean the tile and grout in our restrooms. Will definitely use him again!

Al Ozuna with Detail and Design was very professional with the entire process of replacing our kitchen and bathroom tile. He asked us numerous questions about all aspects of what we wanted done. He gave numerous options also. He brought samples of the tile and grout to our home so we could choose the right colors for our home. He explained the process and timeline for the work. He even finished on time! Later, He installed a new shower pan and replaced the subfloor and tile in our master bathroom. We would definitely hire him again.

I decided not to pursue the original request, tiling my shower floor. I couldn't find matching tile. Rather, Cesar removed the old grout and caulk and regrouted. The shower looks like new. He also repaired a leaky pipe that involved cutting holes in my bathroom ceiling, finding the leak, fixing the pipe, patching and painting my ceiling. He kept the workplace especially clean and kept that sheet rock dust contained to a small area of plastic sheets. He completed the job quickly and his price was fair. He shows up on time and works diligently. I plan to hire him again to do some plumbing and electrical work. I highly recommend him.

Replaced tiles look great and they were able to match the grout very closely....our major concern was that it not look noticeable that a few tiles were replaced, and it does not...overall very pleased with the work

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
