I bought my home in July of 2012. The home didn't have a pantry. I had a space that was going to waste and was of no use at all in my dining room. Dan designed a pantry and used the existing wall beside the refrigerator which separated the dining room from the kitchen. Dan designed and build a pantry for that space. He kept a small part of the molding and fitted the pantry into the molding on two sides so that it appears that the pantry was built into the house as if it was original. I can't say enough good things about the workmanship on this pantry. He noticed that the door had more space at the top than at the bottom. He removed the door and adjusted it so that it fits snugly and perfectly. I would gladly recommend Dan for any design or repair work on any job, large or small. The home also had the original builder toilets in it. I had Dan replace both the master and guest bath toilets. He noticed that one of the toilets had a very small leak. Dan removed the new (and never been used) toilet and took it back to Lowe's and got a new replacement toilet and installed it. This shows the attention to detail that Dan exercises in all that he does.

I had a leak under my raised house under my kitchen sink. Juan worked with my schedule and came the same day. It is fixed with no problems. He also took a look at my dishwasher for me. Over all, great experience and highly recommend him. I will be calling him back if I ever have any other plumbing issues.

Good Brothers remodeled our kitchen countertop (quartz), and retro-fitted our 1950's kitchen cabinets and drawers to bring them into this century. They did custom inserts, and matched the stain to our island cabinets. Their cabinet guy was an absolute artist. We can't express how happy we were with the remodel. We initially had a bit of a problem with the countertop, but Frank worked with us and in the end, we were extremley pleased with how everything turned out. We would use them again in a heartbeat because they stood behind their work and their word. Hard to find that in today's market.

I am doing my kitchen in the spring but was having my shower remodeled too and we absolutely love how it turned out. I had about 15 quotes/interviews on thumbtack before we both chose Chong. There were a couple problems we ran into with the plumbing but I did purchase a complicated shower faucet set with jets separate wand etc. Overall I was more than pleased with everything! The shower turned out better than I had pictured in my mind. Chong and Nate were so genuine & nice! Easy to talk to and respectful of our home even with a messy job like a shower remodel. He will definitely be doing our kitchen we can't wait. I would highly recommend him and I have recommended him to several of my co-workers. For the price and quality of work done they did a outstanding job!

Not only was the quality of work exceptional, and my own design ideas were considered and incorporated where logical, all members of the team I met and spoke with were always professional, considerate and very trustworthy. I will use Restoration 1 again for future work at my home.

If I could give Opus One 10 stars, I would! I had a small project - placement of cabinet knobs and bathroom hardware (towel racks, etc.). I had no idea who to call - I didn't want to waste a designers time with what must be such a simple task. And I certainly didn't want anyone to have to drive to my house - again, for such a small project. RJ from Opus One "face-timed" me tonight and walked me through the placement of all of the hardware, and even threw in a few other helpful hints about finishing out my house renovation. I am SO appreciative of RJ's effort and time. And I will definitely use them for a bigger project in the future!

Ever and his team installed drywall in my living room and kitchen. He is one of the very best professionals here on Thumbtack. I had 5 quotes here on Thumbtack and discussed the job with all of them. Ever was honest and responsive to all of my requests. He did a great job installing and texturing the ceiling. I would definitely hire Ever again.

On May 28th we thought the worst thing that could happen was to have a pipe burst under our kitchen sink especially after 3 months of renovations that my husband and I had almost completed. I went next door to our neighbor who has a carpet business and spoke with Carlos about the flood in the kitchen. In less than 3 hours they had all the baseboard off with heaters and humidifiers all over our home the drying time almost took 5 days. What a life saver double c services and Carlos Cruz. He met with our insurance adjuster, scheduled the tile, granite, painting and hot water service men and made sure it was done right the first time. Carlos also packed my entire kitchen for us. He made our like so easy during this awful time. Our home is now GORGEOUS. I highly recommend this company Carlos Cruz is fantastic to work with. Our insurance adjuster stated that she didn't expect the amount of work that needed to be done to be completed in 60 day's not 30. Call 972-522-0262 for Carlos .

Ended up having A&J work on a kitchen project instead of the original drywall project. They have been excellent. There have been some challenges to overcome, and Jorge has proven creative with a good eye for design and excellent quality work on the follow through. Excellent at communicating and being there when they say they will be there. I will continue to use them and recommend them to all my friends. If these guys are on your radar, use them while they’re still available.

I was very impressed with the way Carlos handled my home addition, kitchen remodel and living space update. I had a vision of how I wanted it done, he listened and made it all happen with a few extras along the way. I did have issues with some of the work by the sub-contractors which lead to phone calls to Carlos. He did address them each time. I was told a manager would be on site at some point each day, however, that did not happen. The sub-contractors did clean up at the end of each day. Over all, the kitchen is beautiful and the new living space is amazing!

Carlos and Jamie did a wonderful job and are great to work with. I had a brick outdoor kitchen surrounding a gas line, hose spigot, and right next to some windows. I also was trying to save the existing grill which was attached to the brick. They took care of everything quickly and left everything clean and were very detailed to make sure nothing got damaged. Will definitely be using them again for some other house projects.

Nathan with Remodel Solutions was a life saver! I needed new faucets and my new dishwasher installed after a kitchen/bathroom remodel. Nathan quoted me an extremely reasonable price and was able to come on the weekend. He arrived on time, was very professional and did a GREAT job! He even ran up to Home Depot and purchased a new disposal and drain for the sink for me. He went above and beyond! I will definitely be using him for future jobs and recommending him to friends/family!

Very professional & friendly. Clean crews. After I decided on The Flooring Shop, to work on my kitchen, I received a schedule of who & what was to be done, on what day. They worked well, with me, over text & phone. They worked around a backsplash delay, that was beyond their control. They started painting, while we waited for the manufacture to deliver the backsplash. While they worked, I was so happy, I had them do additional work, on my pergola. They followed code & installed ceiling fans, outside. Sam was my sales rep & he was very responsive and helpful. Sami was my lead manager & he took great pride in making sure, everything was done perfectly & that I had no issues, needs or questions. The bill was fair too! I’m very pleased with the work & wouldn’t hesitate to use them, on my next projects, when they arise. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
