I received quotes from three exterminators for a nasty bed bug problem. Each place sent me a quote. Danny's quote stated that he needed more information to quote me a fair price, so I called, and was connected with him personally! Danny was extremely personable and kind. I explained that the other comapanies only gave a 30 or 60 day guarantee. One exterminator in particular required an additional (very expensive fee) to sign up for a year guarantee. If any of you have bed bugs, you know that these creatures leave you sleepless, and make you feel like you are going insane...they are difficult to get rid of! Not only did he say that he would give me a year guarantee - but promised me that no matter what, he would make sure the problem is resolved!!! When the other "pros" were asked how many customers they treated for bed bugs in particular, they didn't know! Danny had the answer without hesitation - 60 plus homes, nursing homes, apartment buildings..you name it PER MONTH! He was exceptionally caring about the fact that I had just been through an extensive abdominal surgery, and told me not to worry about lifting heavy stuff; that he would do it himself. He followed through with his promise. He was out to my place the very next day, and his quote was far less than the other companies. Danny sent me a list of instructions of what to do to prepare. It is extensive, and extremely necessary, but everyone should do their part, do what you are supposed to, and they will go above and beyond. I was even given Danny's cell number in case I had questions. Not some land-line that says to leave a message. He put up with my texts and phone calls. He never was irritated, and genuinely cared about my concerns. Also, he promised that there would be no hidden fees. Yesssss! Danny and his team found the harborages in no time. He did an initial treatment until I could find help to pack and cover items for the fumigation. Don't be fooled that the expensive companies will do a better job. These guys know their stuff, leave no stone unturned, and go out of their way to help hysterical folks (especially me) to feel like threre is hope again. Today was the first fumigation. We came home to find that they even carefully turned over couches, and moved bags around to make sure the place was treated thoroughly. Talk about impressive! I highly recommend Xterminators Etc. to everyone. Don't even attempt to call the others'. I've never been happier with a company!! See you soon for the next treatment. Thanks guys!

We had a wasp/yellow jacket next high up in an eave. They came an sprayed the nest, as well as did preventative work in other areas where these bugs like to build nests. Beeline was easy to work with and helped us quickly. The exterminator was helpful, professional, and explained both his work and the warranty.

Josh was detailed oriented and very quick to respond multiple times. I appreciated the professional knowledge he showed in addressing our pest problems. I was impressed with the extra time he took to explain things to me. I've called him back multiple times and now he's my trusted brother in arms against the evils of the insects world trying to take over my family. He is the only call I make because the pests always die for the best price.

Mark arrived on time, did what he said he would do, and the rate that was charged was equal to the estimate. We had a bad ant infestation after moving and so far no sign of them after treatment.

I wish I could give a rating higher than 5 stars. The customer service I received was outstanding. I have been seeking exterminator services for years which would be effective in pest removal without harming my indoor and outdoor pets. I was amazed to learn that this company uses organic products which are not going to negatively impact animals. The appointment was scheduled quickly. The receptionist who scheduled the appointment was friendly and efficient. The professional showed up on time and was friendly and proficient. He completed a thorough sweep of my home. I was amazed that the product used was completely odor-free. I cannot state strongly enough how satisfied I was with my experience with Certified Services.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

    • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
    • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
    • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
    • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
    • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

    • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
      • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
    • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.
