We all, including the puppy, have LOVED working with Solomon's Dog Training. Leanne was always very easy to schedule appointments with, always was on time and ready to get to work with us. Her suggestions and exercises were extremely effective. After just our first session with her we immediately noticed differences in our puppy's behavior and started to be complimented on her obedience. 10 weeks later we still are practicing all the exercises and the puppy is doing fantastic -- in addition to basic obedience she is also walking off leash, respecting boundaries, and showing off multiple tricks. She was always very observant of our puppy's mood and taught her and us just enough to be manageable for practice until our next session. We never felt overwhelmed or underwhemed by the amount of exercise or "homework". We also responded very well to the way Leanne explained dog brain and why/how certain things were effective or not; we truly learned as much as the puppy did. We would recommend Leanne over and over again, and couldn't be more happy about our decision to work with her!

BEST DOG TRAINING COMPANY EVER! I have been through 4 dog trainers and none of them have been able to accomplish what they have plus they have their guarantee which covers spending thousands. I have used them for my first dog (lab) which many trainers were not able to calm his energy. He would pull on leash, jump up on guests, not heel, get in trash, etc... He was a crazy dog however Winston was able to change him in EVERY way! Now I am the pack leader and he listens to me!!! My second dog (Husky Lab mix) I didn't go through ANYONE else and just went strait to Winston and he worked wonders! I ALWAYS will use both his puppy training program and then when the dogs get older use advanced training. Will not recommend anyone else but him!

I was in need of service dog training for my puppy and they came to our home within 24 hours, explained the process, cost and commitment required by me. I was very impressed and Axel will begin training when he is 8 weeks old. He will be trained as a psychiatric service dog. I am now aware that it will be a long process but with their help, expertise and guidance he will be done in approximately 18 months!

Innovative K9 Academy is incredible. I have a very intense Belgian Malinois that I do not trust to board with anyone but David. Not only can I travel without worrying about the welfare of my dog, but Sammy is receiving the best training you can find. I refuse to use anyone but Innovative K9 Academy for training and boarding our dog. If anyone needs to board their dog, or needs help training your K9 I highly recommend Innovative K9 Academy no matter what challenges you have with your dog.

Working with Tiffany was such a breeze. She was very proactive with arranging the initial date to meet me and my pup. The day of our first meeting we so informative and productive. She even saved my pup from another dog who escaped his yard, and gently led that dog back home and shut the gate behind him, ensuring the safety of both that dog and my own! I will highly recommend her training to any dog owner who needs specialized one-on-one training. I can't wait to watch my dog continue to grow throughout this training process. Thank you so much Tiffany😁🐶😁

I work in Hollywood and Vegas on a weekly basis- so my schedule is sporadic, ever changing and crazy. TWP have been great with me and all my changes! Jackie has been great and my dogs love her (I think). I always get a text when they are at my Vegas house letting me know what my dogs are up to. I can't ask for a better service!

I love that she offers private lessons in the comfort of your own home at a very affordable price. That's super convenient for me as a pet owner because I don't have to drag my puppy there and back every time he has a training session.

I have seen Andrew work with my dogs and others. He is very caring for each dog he works with and handles them to suit their needs individually. My dogs can now walk off leash, our puppy who did the board and train program is better potty trained than our 3 year old dog. In my opinion, Andrew and Premier Canine Companion should be anyone's choice for training their pooch.

I provide basic dog obedience training/field training/agility training. Every dog is different and that is to be expected, so as the situation presents itself, I will cater to the dog's individual needs. But not only that, I will also teach the owner how to maintain these behaviors/commands after they are taught. Remember, discipline isn't about showing a dog who's boss, it's about taking responsibility for a living creature you have brought into your world. Be the pack leader. My experience is I trained multiple NKC/AKC field ready gun dogs. I trained dogs for agility competitions. I have 6 years of experience dealing with dog behavioral correction and promotion. I am experienced with training both pointers and flushers. I Currently have my own 1-year-old Weimaraner pointer that I raised from 8 weeks of age. He is field ready, as well as ready ready for agility competitions. I have 6 years of experience in E-collar training, as well as off the collar training. I have 6 years of basic obedience training. Commands for basic training are sit, stay, come or here, heel, whoa, down, up, fetch, give, leave and kennel. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

    • What type of training methods do you use?
    • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
    • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
