Introduction: Let me help you or your youngster learn the saxophone! I teach beginning and advancing students, starting with the basics of tone production, technical facility on the instrument, and sight-reading, moving into more advanced concepts geared toward the aspiring improviser.
When I teach, I take into account the specific goals, strengths, and weaknesses of each student in order to create a plan that will help them achieve their ambitions and create the music they love to play. I want to pass on the knowledge I continue to gain as I pursue my master of music degree in jazz performance and composition at the University of Utah.
My teaching is not simply based on facts learned in a classroom, or practiced in a practice room, but is informed by real-world performance experience in everything from jazz to pop to polka. I have played saxophone professionally with Voodoo Box, The Soulistics, The Sarah B Band, The B&B All-Stars, The Number Ones, The Wasatch Jazz Project big band, The Stratford Street Big Band, The Changing Lanes Experience, Cliff Notes, and The Hoodoo Voodoo Marching Band. In addition to playing at clubs and events in the Mountain West, transcribing/arranging existing tunes and creating professional charts for various bands, I am currently writing, recording, and producing a demo of original material for my jazz-funk project, SLC-Funk.
