Shawn "Pops" Foster teaches beginning, intermediate and early advanced violin for children, teen and adult students. Pops has experience teaching Suzuki Method and Marc O'Connor Method. For the past five years, he has taught a range of styles --from classical to bluegrass, Western Swing and country. Pops was a newspaper reporter for more than ten years. He was an attorney for fifteen years. In all that time, in his heart, he was always a musician. Now Pops splits his time between teaching, rehearsing and performing. He plays music all over Utah and across the West playing fifty to sixty gigs a year. Pops offers lessons at a home studio in downtown Salt Lake City, studio space in Sandy, and a limited number in students' homes.See more

Nicolle is an excellent Violin instructor. She delivers her lessons with good direction and knowledgeable insight. She motivates you to embrace the Violin and its magic. Of course, as we are beginners, Nicolle has her work cut out for herself. But, her incredible positive energy keeps us engaged and wanting to strive to do our best. (oh, I should say, she teaches two of us---adults) She is patient and generous during this awkward beginning stage. Thanks, Nicolle, for being such an awesome motivator.

Nicolle has been an incredible violin teacher for my two daughters, and we couldn't be more grateful for her dedication and creativity. My oldest daughter has been learning with Nicolle for the past four years, and her progress has been remarkable. Nicolle primarily uses the Suzuki method, but she skillfully incorporates other creative approaches that truly bring out the best in her students. Her teaching style is engaging, using real-life examples that make lessons both fun and effective. Nicolle also emphasizes the importance of consistent home practice, listening to music, and daily exercises, which has instilled a strong sense of discipline and passion for music in both of my daughters. I highly recommend Nicolle to any parent looking for a committed and inspiring violin teacher!

Let me start by saying I have been taking lessons with Flavia for about 6 months now and she has been fantastic. I began taking lessons with another instructor for 2 years, and felt good about my progress. However, after a few months with Flavia, I felt like I was starting to really advance with the violin! Her emphasis on honing technique and the basics, combined with her willingness to teach improvisation as well as her constant encouragement to try those difficult pieces has allowed me to realize substantial progress while continuing to grow my love for this instrument! She genuinely loves teaching students how to play and it shows. As a beginner adult student, I also appreciate the fact she doesn't scold when the wrong notes get played, and takes time to teach some of the theory that goes with the music. Flavia is patient, enthusiastic, and a great teacher, especially if you're looking to play styles beyond classical.
