I worked with Kevin on two different projects. A complete confusing book manuscript and a synopsis of a potential tv idea. I write in stream of consciousness and Kevin professionally and meticulously unraveled it all into a very readable format. He is a nice guy to work with and very fair and generous with his time. He has incredible dairoken(Japanese intuition) for an American and quickly puts himself in the author's shoes to make a clear and concise product. I highly recommend him for any writing project you have in mind and worth twice the money! Ray Hodge

Laura Boyle is an attuned consultant with expertise as a wordsmith and graphic artist. Her writing and editing support and technical skill and familiarity with IT was very helpful in tightening up my website and strengthening my online presence. We are currently working on developing presentations and workshops and I find her solution focused approach and ability to define a task and develop implementation strategies that break large projects into smaller and doable parts very helpful. Laura is a very good listener which when blended with her responsive professional service style results in the production of quality work. As you can gather I am very pleased with the services I have and continue to receive from Laura Boyle and Imagine Communications and highly recommend them. About

Well, there are several reasons: 1) Technically, I know various writing styles real well (AP, GPO, Chicago, APA). 2) Through my years of journalism and other writing experience, I've developed a knack for clear, accurate, succinct expression and finding just the right words for a certain thought. 3) I was trained in Biochemistry in college. This developed my strong analytical ability, which helps me produce clear, logical, and error-free copy. 4) I write poetry, so I bring an aesthetic sensibility to the written word, helping me produce writing that's tasteful, sensitive, and moving. 5) I have a broad general knowledge, in everything from world history to science, art to gastronomy, which strengthens my fact-checking and editing in many ways.

    About

I have the patience to attempt to make each word appropriate and correct.

    About

I am a freelance writer who lends out my services for articles, novels, and many more writing jobs. I do it because there are some people that can't write or have poor grammar skills, but that's no reason to not advertise your business or stop you from sharing your ideas. That's why I am here to do the work for you, and we both get rewarded in the end.

    About

I am a creative writer in a day and age where many people have lost the ability to write concisely, with innovation and technicality, with proper grammar that doesn't seem like a abbreviation-filled text message, or a tweet where the character count is more important than the message. I pride myself on being able to express a idea, relay a message with creativity, originality and erudition. I love writing stories, but don't at all mind the monotonous stability and consistency of technical writing; a combination which in itself is unusual, but fortuitous when it comes to almost any job.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
