I trained classically for 10 years with high powered teachers that included Metropolitan Opera singers and students of the late, great Todd Duncan. None of them prepared me for singing day after day, week after week in difficult acoustic environments, and I strained my voice, necessitating a long, silent recovery time. Once I started recording, I learned a great deal about what goes on in the vocal instrument and sat down to completely restructure my approach to singing. The result is my teaching method: an ergonomic understanding of the instrument, with an emphasis on using the body's natural acoustics in conjunction with breathing techniques, relaxation and overall fitness. I'm also a mother and grandmother and have learned how best to draw out my students' strengths and interests. My students!!! We always become friends because a successful teacher takes the time to learn so much about every one.

A lot of teachers have the proper knowledge of good vocal technique but lack the skills to relay this information to their students in a way that reaches them. I tailor my teaching methods to the individual. Understanding how a students learns whether it be visual or more technical is important. Also knowing the student's outside interests can help a teacher know how to use vocabulary that the student can grasp. I love seeing the progress from week to week that my students make. It is more about how they grow vocally and improve both their skills and talents as well as their confidence. When a student has that small breakthrough in a lesson, it is a moment to celebrate.

My daughter has been with Dr. Oster for 8 years. Dr. Oster is a very unique teacher and caters to each child's strengths and weaknesses through her teaching. My daughter is naturally shy and not very expressive emotionally, but she has become more expressive and confident through playing piano under the guidance of Dr. Oster. Dr. Oster also provides very rigorous and intense pieces for her students to learn, and gives them the necessary tools to do so more independently as they grow older, but all the while with her counseling. Many people are constantly amazed by my daughter's piano playing due to difficulty of these pieces. The perseverance and work ethic necessary to master these pieces is astounding and are invaluable life lessons that my daughter has acquired through learning from Dr. Oster. Dr. Oster truly wants her students to excel in all aspects of life. We are very thankful to have her in our lives.

  • Singing Lessons for Children & Adults

    Christine Padua

    (10 reviews)

Our daughter started working with Christine at 11 years old, at first just for voice, but eventually for piano as well. Christine’s work with our daughter was outstanding on several levels. She helped our daughter improve her technical skills, she inspired confidence in our daughter to perform, and she readily shared her love of music. Our daughter enjoyed all of her lessons, even as they worked hard for the full time they spent together. When it was time for the school musical or other performances, Christine was always ready to help our daughter prepare for an audition or concert. I would highly recommend Christine to anyone looking for expert instruction in voice or piano. And for those of you with a teen or pre-teen looking for instruction, don’t under estimate the impression it will make on your child when they realize they can buy music from their instructor on iTunes!

I completely agree with Chelsea's testimonial. Our teenage daughter has taken voice lessons with Alexandra for two years and has learned so much. Alexandra is a gifted, classically trained singer, but she is very open to having her students sing whatever music interests them. Our daughter has learned proper vocal technique from Alexandra and has developed her voice and performance tremendously. Alexandra is a gentle soul and especially well suited to working with young people. She is patient and kind. She wants to help each singer develop their individual talent. Anyone who can study with Alexandra is a lucky person. She is wonderful!

Miss Bond is HIGHLY professional, knowledgeable, patient and encouraging. She challenges you but instills such confidence in you that new endeavors aren't daunting. I started signing professionally late in life (post-40) and my first single got to #11 on Traxsource's top 100 R&B/Hip Hop category. I'm amazed at how much better I sound than when I started a year ago and we're just getting started with the lessons. Miss Bond is flexible and will even do lessons via Skype which is a godsend since I have a 5 year old son. Her credentials, conviction and heartfelt love for vocals are a winner. Not only does she teach about vocals, stage presence, and breathing, but even the health of your vocal chords. She is a beautiful and encouraging spirit.
