I have moved all over the country every few years with corporate firms sponsoring the move with large commercial companies. None compared to the outstanding service of NovaMovers! Amine was on time for the estimate and honored his original quote. His prices were better than any of the other moving companies but what is more, his company has integrity and took exceptional care with my personal belongings. He is professional and honest. There were no hidden surprises and he was sincere and caring. I have never been happier with a moving company. The movers were respectful, courteous, conscientious and hard working. Nothing was damaged or broken. I can't say enough about Amine Fettar. He made moving, which I find stressful, a pleasant experience.I will definitely use his services again and again!

Great price and great team! They made sure everything was taken care of. They even boxed items that were not originally boxed just to make sure there was no damage to it. They did whatever you asked of them. Great business. I hope you all maintain superiority among all the moving companies in this area. Worth the every penny!!!

We used Dulles Logistics and Rentals for a local move within DC and had a stellar experience. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a moving company. Max was extremely patient and helpful in answering my many questions prior to the move, and the crew arrived on time and was hard-working, efficient, careful and professional. Everything arrived at our new home safe and sound and Dulles Logistics was nearly half the cost of other DC moving companies I considered. Great value for the $$.

The best moving experience I've ever had, from start to finish. Their quote was significantly cheaper than what I'd received from other moving companies, and they were very responsive to my questions in the days before the actual move. Everything was packed and moved safely, and nothing was damaged or broken.

I'm new to reviews but I had to share my experience about this company. I have never met such professional men that took the greatest care of my belongings. I have hired other moving companies before but A-1 blows them away in comparison to customer service and the overall professionalism. I have very old antique furniture that I have been taking care of over the years and the way these gentleman wrapped and protected my things I had to take pictures and show my friends. Anyone looking for a trust worthy moving company that you can count on A1 is the one.

My family and I couldn't have asked for a better experience than what Zebna Movers provided. From the initial in-home estimate to ultimate delivery of our household goods, the entire Zebna team provided top-notch service at an extremely competitive price. El Ibra, our moving liaison, was prompt, respectful, and truly did everything in his power to ensure that our last-minute move from Virginia to Florida went absolutely seamless. The actual moving team showed up ahead of schedule and worked tirelessly and efficiently to pack our entire 4+ bedroom home in a matter of hours. Since I was forced to remain in Virginia and finalize the sale of our house, the moving crew then traveled to Florida and went out of their way to make absolutely certain my pregnant wife had everything she needed; the team was comprised of genuinely considerate people. We honestly could not have accomplished this move without Zebna's exquisite service. Having requested quotes and meeting representatives from a number of moving companies, I am absolutely certain we made the right choice in selecting Zebna Movers.

***PLEASE READ; I did extensive research on their quality, reviews from customers, and price. Very important for you to understand a moving company that offers their own climate control warehouse with your items sealed in vaults is very important. Other moving companies we checked on wanted to place our belongings in rented storage facilities they do not own or lease [BIG RED FLAG]. MICE, RODENTS, WHAT IF THEY DO NOT PAY THE STORAGE? Great Nation owns their own facility, with a sprinkler system, security, cameras, no rodent issues. Rose was always on top of everything, returned all my calls and texted or emailed me updates. She is very responsive to all questions and YOUR CONCERNS! Daniel and his team arrived on time and worked diligently protecting our belongings. They executed everything from floor protection, with zero issues with the building requirements such as usage of stairs and elevator. They were not the lowest but you get what you pay for, and the price was more than fair for the quality of work they performed. Mimi made the billing simple and painless! I highly recommend Great Nation Moving.

Fred and his team were amazing. After hearing horror stories about moving companies, I was hesitant to hire someone, but SkyRide put my fears to rest and exceeded all of my expectations. They were professional, courteous, friendly, and efficient. My things were treated with care and arrived safely. We had a mix-up regarding the date of the move, but Fred was very responsive and fixed everything, which really helped in the midst of moving stress. I would highly recommend SkyRide!

We had one plug outlet replaced and one light switch replaced. Brandon was very responsive, punctual, and professional . He double checked with us through a phone call about the specifics of the job and brought all materials needed. He was able to provide same day service at a rate that was very competitive with the large electric companies we had already called for quotes about the same project.

On a 1-10 scale with 10 a perfect score, Ground Force One Moving is an 11! Richard and his partner were professional, courteous, punctual, and performed flawlessly. They were hired to pick up and return a 350 lb. elliptical machine to a store. They protected the floor with blankets, carefully avoided hitting doorways, and placed it where the store manager requested. With confidence, I highly recommend this family owned and operated moving business for all your moving needs, small or large.

We have never been an organized people. Our house is always a mess and having to pack up everything was giving me nightmares. But VKH Movers made my move so easy. A few phone calls back and forth made me hire them. They took over all the responsibilities on their shoulders and did such a fine job. They maintained their schedules and transported every piece of my belongings safely. The customer service was very helpful at every point during this move. They didn’t even charge anything extra in the end and I was quite surprised seeing that since most moving companies charge extra at the end. These guys are true professionals.

Absolutely amazing moving company! I was worried no one would take such a small job on short notice. However Adrian of Checkmate Professional Services came to our rescue. Adrian arrived 5 minutes early with all of his equipment. He was very professional and asked questions to make sure he was doing everything to our specifications. He helped us move and setup a 350lb outdoor fountain. My wife and I are very grateful for his company. We highly recommend them.

I am very appreciative for the work bone by the moving team. All transaction went well. I had quite a few stuff to move and was worried that a moving company will charge a lot for the work. After screening reviews and comparing prices, decided to go with Newray moving. Staff was friendly and quickly sent me the quote. After agreeing to it, she scheduled my move. Guys arrived on time (by the way manager gave me a call day before the move to confirm the move and ask me if I need extra boxes and other staff). The movers worked diligently but in a good pace but it took them longer given I had couple large dressers that need to be accurately moved since it had fragile mirror door. They packed them well and were able to get it downstairs from second floor without a scratch. The total hours were slightly higher then estimated but given I saw how they work I was fine with it. I highly recommend this moving company, team is really devoted to their job.

Our two helpers were great for moving our large items upstairs. They were quick, made a good team, and were very friendly. My only issue was that they weren’t as familiar with putting the furniture back together, and my husband had to do most of the work on that front. Would definitely hire again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
