Travis was hired to clean an apartment that had just been vacated by a tenant. He was available with very little lead time, prompt, and friendly. He worked after dark, which made it difficult for him to see what he was cleaning in low light. We brought a stronger light when we came to see the finished job and he cleaned the missed spots then. We were pleased.

I hired Cindy to paint three rooms in my house. Prior to Cindy painting we communicated via text message. She was always very responsive while texting. We were able to work together to figure out the type of paint I needed and what color and brand. Cindy picked up the paint before getting to my house. Once she arrived, I gave her a tour of the rooms she'd paint then she got started. She was very accommodating buying a fume free paint, which was very important since my 13 month son's room was one of the rooms she painted. While painting she did above and beyond what, in my opinion, is expect of a painter to do. There were places on the wall where the plaster had come off and she repaired those patches. She also gave my husband and I some painting advice and tips. She is very meticulous and takes her time. She organized her time very well too by working in one room while the first coat of paint was drying in another room. Usually she has a helper but she was by herself for my job. This caused her to be at my house basically all day. She did commit to stay until the job was done even though she had an hour commute back home. Overall I am very satisfied with Cindy's performance and I'd definitely use her again for any painting needs.

Danny and the crew at Cyrus Specialty Painting did an exceptional job servicing our home painting needs. We employed Cyrus Specialty Painting to paint the inside of our three-story, four bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home and were more than pleased with the results. Danny and his crew were able to paint our entire interior of our home in under a week's worth of work, to include paintwork that utilized multiple colors per room, painting around cabinets and railings, and trim work in our nursery. Cyrus Specialty Painting's rates were great for the services performed, and our final price did not deviate far at all from Danny's initial projection. Perhaps most importantly, the team provided top of the line customer service and were always receptive to feedback and input. Danny did not want to sign off on any work that was less than perfect in our opinions, and his team put in the extra effort to make sure our vision came to fruition. We are very pleased with the way our home has turned out and would be more than happy to recommend Danny and Cyrus Specialty Painting for anybody else's interior painting needs.

Contacted J.P.R. Painting to paint my basement, after 2 very long years of working to get it remodeled. We did this part ourselves, and faced so many obstacles just to get it to the point where it COULD be painted. My experience with John and his wife Jamie could not have been better. I got the sense that John is a perfectionist, which is exactly what you want when you're hiring a painter! He was so flexible with our timeline/schedule, committed to the quote he'd provided, very friendly and professional... and when I say he painted quickly, I don't mean he hurried --- I mean he's very efficient without any compromise whatsoever to the detail. There is absolutely no way that I could have done as clean of a paint job myself, especially in the time he was able to do it. (this is why you hire a professional painter, by the way). It really looks great, and I'm extremely satisfied with the way it all looks. Okay, now I need to talk about Jamie, John's wife. Most of my communication has been with her, and if I have to be honest, before a drop of paint was on the wall, I was sold on J.P.R. Painting because of Jamie. There are dozens of professional painters in the area, but for me, what sets anyone apart is customer service. And I'm not going to use typical words like "courteous" and "professional" and "communicates well". While these words all are certainly applicable, Jamie goes far beyond those traits. She has been GENUINELY sweet and friendly and really seemed to understand this whole bear of a basement project and what it meant to me to finally get to this point. Any home project is personal when you're putting money and time into it, and it's so refreshing to have someone on the other end of the phone who truly respects and understands that! Thank you, John and Jamie! :-) I will recommend you to anyone.

This contractor is top-notch and honest! Mr. Bobby Stephens has about 35 years of experience as a roofer. He took a look at my almost 20-year-old roof, which others said would soon need replacement, and said I had a good 5 to 7 years left in it with just a few simple repairs. Given what others have told me and my lack of knowledge regarding roofing, if he had told me I needed a new roof I probably would have been willing to have him replace it now. But he has honor and integrity. That saved me and my family a lot of money. He also does painting and tree work, among other things. I am very glad I met Bobby, and if there had been a way to give him six stars I would’ve done so!

I recently employed RHPP to repaint my two-story foyer and power wash my house due to their exceptional prices. I was more than pleased with their exceptional service! They returned calls quickly, arrived when promised, began working immediately, efficiently, and neatly, AND cleaned up properly. The prices I ended up paying were exactly the same as the estimate previously given (no surprises!). I felt comfortable with their presence in my home with just myself and my 3 young children. They were very professional, respectful, thorough, and diligent in their work. I am planning to employ them in the next few weeks to paint our exterior as well as our kitchen. PS. My husband is well pleased with the painting and power washing job, as well. He said he feels like we're in a new home and is looking for more rooms for RHPP to paint!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
