- How did you get started doing this type of work?
By accident. Only 18 at the time and in need of a job, I answered an ad in the paper for dance instructor. No experience necessary. I figured I would give it a try. I walked into Fred Astaire Studio in Newport News and fell in love with ballroom dancing. I never imagined that I would still be dancing 31 years later.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
My clients normally come in with an immediate goal in mind. Whether they are preparing for a special occasion, wanting to improve overall health and well-being, meet new people or just make dancing part of a learning experience, most of our students gain a lifelong skill by learning to dance. Depending on the season, I most commonly teach beginners and foster their love of dance. Many continue past the first few lessons for several reasons. Most just want to become comfortable and confident during social situations.
