Introduction: I chose massage therapy because I wanted to help people. The most rewarding part of my job is when a client walks out feeling great and best of all, the pain they were suffering from is alleviated. I ask for feedback before and during the massage to ensure they will leave satisified. It is low stress and it helps people. Rarely is a client not happy to see me. I've met a lot of great people and thoroughly enjoy what I do!

Shannon was my massage therapist in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada before she came to Virginia Beach. I am a Medical Office Assistant and Typist as well as an individual who was suffering from thoracic-cervical chronic strain, shoulder/neck pain, lower back pain, (L) piriformis syndrome and a high level of stress. My chiropractor referred me to have massage therapy because of the intensity of my injury at that time and I also required frequent treatments of both massage and chiropractor. Shannon had been my massage therapist since January, 2009 on a weekly basis until the time she left to go to Virginia Beach. Many times I was in a lot of pain and after having a massage treatment from Shannon, I was amazed and quite impressed with how relaxed my muscles felt and how much of the pain was gone - and I noticed I began benefiting with having better sleep too! Piriformis syndrome is extremely painful - anyone who has ever had this would agree! During this time I couldn't even work. Each treatment I had was well worth the expense and I know without these treatments I would not have recovered as quickly as I did and I would not be as good of shape that I am in today. I will be forever grateful for the massage treatments I received from Shannon and what they did for me and I highly recommend her services without hesitation. My Dad was 91 at that time and he suffered from osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, fractured (L) hip and (L) knee pain and was in a LOT of pain. I took him to see Shannon to see if massage would help him. My Dad received a few treatments from Shannon and he did benefit from receiving these treatments. Shannon would lower her massage table in advance so that he was able to get on it and made some adjustments so he would be comfortable then proceeded with the treatments - plus she allowed me to be in the room with him while she treated him. Because my Dad was living with me and I was looking after him I was able to see first-hand if these massage treatments were helping him or not. I noticed that his level of pain decreased and his mobility increased allowing him to enjoy better quality life. Today as I am writing this - he is still here at 92 years of age - his level of pain is manageable and next to none, he is mobile, his mind is alert and he is enjoying his life and is still living with me. On a personal level I have found Shannon to be very polite, courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable and passionate about her work. She loves her work and it shines through her. I always looked forward to my massage treatments and conversations with her and I still miss her, but also understand and support her future endeavors. Virginia Beach you have an AWESOME massage therapist!!!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I had considered massage therapy out of high school; however, there wasn't a huge demand for it at the time. I had been working in a law firm for a few years and decided working behind a desk was not how I wanted to spend my life. I enrolled in a massage course and two years later started doing something that I did and still do love!

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

About half of the massages I do are relaxation, and the other more therapeutic, deep tissue massage. Occasionally I do prenatal massage; however, before I moved to the USA I did prenatal almost on a weekly basis.
