Erika is my go-to person for dog training and dog sitting! I have two rescue dogs, both adopted at the age of two with no training. Needless to say I needed help badly! Now my pups sit and wait to go in and out of doors, and they will do most anything for a treat. It's also nice to be able to go out of town and not have to worry about my fur babies! She's the only one I trust with them (and also to stay at my home with them), and she sends me plenty of updates while I'm gone.

Honestly I wasn't even expecting getting a dog, was at the James river and saw this young man with two very well trained dogs and started talking. He seemed to love what he does so he invited me to the dog motel. How could I refuse, went there and was overwhelmed by the amount of dogs and how well taught they where. Well there was one dog that caught my eye. My dog Mr. Marvin. Well I left feeling. Happy and wanted that dog but didn't know how and or if I could take care of him. Well lo and behold I met his associate walking Marvin at the river. He asked if I wanted to take him home. (I've always wanted a dog to keep up with me on jogs) went back to the motel filled out the paper work and now I have the companion of my life. Well trained and loving. Highly recommended looking for a pet in his establishment.

As a pet owner, it can be a stressful to leave your fur-baby with just anyone. I am so thankful to have found Mindy who went above and beyond by cleaning the cat litter and food bowels, taking out the trash, and getting the mail. She quickly put my mind at ease with text updates throughout my vacation on how my cat was doing and although it seems trivial, being sent pictures of my cat cuddling up to her affirmed my decision in hiring Mindy. She is clearly an animal lover and is genuinely compassionate about the well-being of your pet. I highly recommend Mindy as your pet sitter - will definitely be using her services in the future! Thank you again Mindy - Dorian was in great hands.

Candy kept us posted on how our kitties were doing while we were away from home, and that gave us such reassurance that our fur-babies were well taken care of. Will definitely have her pet sit for us again!

Anna was excellent! She took the time to get to know my Bella and to connect with her before taking her to the grooming van. It allowed Bella to trust her and be relaxed during grooming. Anna did a great job on the grooming as well, paying special attention to what I wanted as the pet owner. I would highly recommend Paw Spa to my friends and family!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
