Corey is outstanding. I'm very glad to have hired him. Our project was to paint ~1,200 square feet of retail space including the ceiling. He and his partner did a fantastic job, are clean, reliable, and friendly. I strongly recommend :)

We cannot speak highly enough about the job that Cam and Emily did in painting our entire exterior. When we purchased our house, the exterior had been neglected for a number of years. Prior to painting, significant sanding of custom molding and traditional wood-framed windows was required. Additionally, landscape was overgrown, gutters were clogged, and deck suffered from damaged boards. Cam and Emily did an impeccable job of completing all of the repairs and meticulously preparing the cedar siding for new paint. They took great care in highlighting the architectural features of the house. Throughout the process, Cam and Emily were incredibly attentive to detail, ensuring all of our needs were met and nothing was missed. Three months and many rainstorms later, the paint on the house and deck still look fantastic. The results speak for themselves and are a testament to their philosophy of focusing on a single project at a time. Cam and Emily work with integrity and we give them our highest recommendation to anyone looking for help on painting/remodeling projects.

Extraordinaire Painting, owned by Dan Linn, recently painted the exterior of my residence. I am happy to leave a 5-star review because: He and his crew were professional - this was major for me. The time frame was efficient yet reasonable even with weather concerns and his company being busy. He offered counsel and professional opinions on my color and finish choices, as asked for and when the circumstance warranted it (changes in colors, trim selections, and what is trendy vs. traditional). My house was two colors but I used four on the new paint job, so I needed his expertise. I particularly like that he was in constant contact with my husband and myself regarding the bid, contract, the timeline, quality assessments from us, and also his concern for the finished job. Dan worked with us on several contract modifications as I changed my mind about what to paint and what not to paint (front doors, outbuildings, trim pieces). I will also add that my 48-year old house had some siding issues which had to be taken into consideration for this job. Dan and his crew were knowledgeable and professional in working to resolve the issues. He really stressed to me his 5-year guarantee, and willingness to return in the spring/summer to correct and perfect some underlying issues. In summary, I am happy to recommend Dan, and I will post before and after pictures of the job.

Jose did a great job repairing a leak in the drywall around our skylight. He had to replace moldy insulation and drywall twice the amount originally anticipated and then apply texture and paint. He also repaired 2 other areas. He completed the job on time and it looks spectacular!! We are thrilled and highly recommend Jose to one and all. We would definitely use him again.

This Stacy Evans guy is AWESOME! Came in at 10:00am…had to run and grab more paint, but is almost finished with the one unit we gave him. He is also really reasonable price-wise.

Leno and his associate did a great job on our interior painting project. We have high ceilings, which they handled with ease. Quality and timely work. We also had them spray paint our doors, as well as paint our trim and window sills (which required removing and re-installing all blinds - Leno was happy to do). He even came back at a later date to touch up a couple spots. All for a fair price. Will likely be using again and would definitely recommend them.

My poor house had seen it's better days. It had been about 18 years sense the last paint job. Ron from STP came out took a look around. Oh he had his work cut out, from wood panels that had to be replace, out side faucets were no longer functioning. The work began. The first day, getting the old paint off to see what was hiding under it all. The next day when the painting work began, the team of people that came over was amazing. They each knew what had to be done, one followed the other. The plumber was doing the faucets, while other were prepping the house for it's first coat primer. They spray AND rolled the primer in to the wood, mind you this 1400 square foot home took 15 gallons of primer.. The care they took getting the base coat on was impressive. Not a nook or cranny was missed. While all this was happening the crew kept in touch the entire time, making sure that I was well informed what they found and corrected. The skills that the team from STP have is amazing. Three days later they were done, coming into my driveway that evening my eyes started to tear up, my house of thirty years ago was back. It was PREFECT. The color matching was dead on. I have been around the house several times to see if I can find a spot missed, not a one. Will I have them back out to do painting or general construction work, you know I will. It was a long search trying to find a contactor that wanted to do the job right.. Special Touch Painting will be invited back out when I have ANY type of issues around the house. I liked the fact that they also do general construction, knowing a house inside out is wonderful. Ron, Nick and crew THANK YOU

Gafco Roofing and Construction started to impress my wife and I from the beginning with a competitive and detailed bid. We decided to hire Gafco to paint our house and renovate our deck because we felt Eric, the owner, understood our needs and could deliver what we wanted at a competitive price. We were not let down. The crew and Eric showed up early, worked hard, listened to our concerns and wishes, and went above and beyond to ensure the work area was clean and safe at the end of the day. With three young children that was really important. The work was completed on time and the product was exactly what we expected.

We hired Nick to paint the interior of our 2200 sqft home (tri-level). Not only was he meticulous about his work, he is not satisfied with doing under par work. He gave us a competitive bid (we had a total of 10 bids) for the enormous job, and he completed in a very timely manner, respecting that we were still living in home. He not only did he paint, he patched, textured and fixed what the previous painter messed up, he fixed the caulking in my 2nd bathroom. He made sure that our house was cleaned up and all paint supplies were out of reach which is very important since we have children and pets. He was very easy to communicate with and very easy to get in contact with. He is very knowledgeable regarding his profession. We are definitely using him for our exterior and would highly recommend him.

Kriss did an outstanding job for me! I was really impressed with how hard he worked to provide excellent customer service. I needed him to complete the work by a certain time. He completed it ahead of schedule. And I was very pleased with the work he did for me. It was not an easy area to paint. It required attention to detail. He work shows that he is indeed a very skillful painter. I shall be calling upon his services again in the future!

I had my entire interior of my house painted including mill work. I was a bit nervous about how everything would turn since the last painter got spray paint on my dining table and ruined by front lawn by running it over with his oversized utility van so I had to fire them - argh!! Chuck was very professional, accommodating and respectful of my time by being always on time and responding promptly when I had questions. He made sure that I was 100% satisfied...and I am! It required him to come back a couple of times after the job was done to fix a couple of small minor things but he made sure it was taken care of. If recommend him to anyone that wants quality painting and great customer service. - Lea from Renton

Allan and his team worked quickly and efficiently to paint 28 interior doors and 3 closets for us. They worked hard to complete the job in only 2 days. They were more than willing to accommodate us for no VOC paint as well, and offered us a very reasonable price. We look forward to having them help us with future house projects. Thank you!

I would like to say thank you very much for a job well done. Emily and Cam painted the interior of our home. The paint was top quality and made our walls nice and clean. They were both professional and courteous. At the end of each day they cleaned and put furniture back in place. I would highly recommend ET3 painting and design for any job. Thanks again for a great job.

Jose responded to my posting quickly, came out to provide an estimate the next day, and did the job as soon as the insurance company provided the estimate. They replaced a couple of posts in my garage that were damaged by a pizza delivery driver. This seemingly minor job involved everything from bracing a major beam that runs across the front of my house to some painting and minor finish work. The work was solid and as promised. They did the job while I was at work, and when I came home, the garage was swept out and they also had swept my driveway. In every stage of the job, they were professional and courteous. I would have them do more work in a heartbeat. Thank you very much!!!

This was a great company to work with! From the first meeting to the end of the project, Tom was very understanding about my business needs and very professional. I was very impressed how he showed up on time to our first meeting and answered all of my questions. I was definitely thrilled when his quote for my project came in at the best price (compared to 4 other painting companies). His team painted my office in Bellevue during our closed hours and did an amazing job. Their work was professional and beautiful and I will definitely be using this company again.

Our house was in bad shape. Peeling and cracked paint, and exposed wood. Jose and his crew had a big challenge and met it. Our house is now beautiful, and I'm not ashamed to show off pictures if it. Their price was great, and the job they did was phenomenal. Would hire them again and again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
