I had a great experience working with Dan from Motio Media. He was very professional and accommodating. The communication was great, via e-mail and phone. Dan came on time for our event, did not need a lot of assistance. I just had to explain what I want out of the recording (it was about filming a theater performance in foreign language) and he took it from there. I requested a digital copy for Youtube upload and Dan sent it to me in the next 12 hours after the play ended! Additionally I requested several Blu ray DVD copies and Dan was very quick with that too and flexible meeting me when and where was convenient for me. Thank you Dan! It was great working with you and we will keep you in mind for our next performance! Nevena

Greg was very accommodating, flexible and captured all the moments we were looking for. Greg filmed my dads funeral service and the outcome of the video was incredible! He is very easy to work with, very nice and took the initiative to create a well done video for my family and I. The video is also available to view on my phone, which is my favorite because I can watch it anytime when I am missing my dad (which is everyday.) I highly recommend Greg to film your next event!

Incredible Video!!!! First they were early and were never stopped filming but they were so in touch with what was going on around them that my Mother in Law thought that they weren't at the wedding because she never saw them. It was incredible for her to see the 1 hour wedding video and realize they had captured everything from the day and the ceremony. As well their 5 minute summary video has been watched over and over. All the people who couldn't make it to the wedding Loved it and thanked us repeatedly for getting it. Don't be like so many of my friends who say after seeing what memories we have captured they wished they would have had everything captured professionally!

John has been my videographer and website developer for many years. Filming has been his life work and his expertise and professionalism in helping me with my marketing projects has been invaluable. He is a wonderful teacher and has trained several of my employees which went way beyond the scope of his contract.. I have been very grateful for his ongoing commitment to me and my company as well as the results.

Imogen worked for me for a number of years as a camera operator and field producer. In that time, she revealed not only a tireless work ethic, but also an unerring eye for shot composition, rapport with the people (and sometimes animals) being interviewed and filmed, and a phenomenal creative vision. In the years she worked for me, I found her to be one of my most dependable and flexible staff members, as well as an ambitious, visionary photographer/video producer.

We were in need of a videographer to film a luncheon at the end of the week. Jermaine Mendoza was able to film with such short notice and was able to provide a professional video with a very quick turnaround. He was professional from beginning to end, and I look forward to using his company in the future. Highly recommended!

Love our wedding videos!! They were exactly what we were looking for, and I’m so glad my husband and I will have these memories to look back on for years to come. Peter was great to work with. He always responded quickly to any requests we had prior to the wedding, during the wedding we hardly even noticed the filming because he was out of the way yet capturing beautiful moments, and after the wedding he was just as available for any questions about editing. Thank you Peter!!!

And I felt comfortable being filmed! His editing skills are also awesome! Highly recommend

I had the opportunity to work with Daniel on two video projects for my company. One was editing some existing videos for an educational video series and the other was a maintenance video for one of our instruments. In both cases it was really easy working with Daniel and I really liked the work he did. During the educational video series I communicated with Daniel remotely via email. It was very easy to provide Daniel with content and details regarding what I wanted edited and Daniel was very responsive in getting me fairly quick turn over for ~ 5 minute long videos. Daniel was also really patient as I would watch the video, find something I didn't catch the first time, and ask him to make the corrections. On the second video project, Daniel worked with me in house and we both filmed the maintenance video together. During this time Daniel was very nice, easy to work with, and produced some excellent quality videos. I enjoyed working with Daniel, but really enjoyed his own creative spin on things and I thought made things better than I imagined. For example, I was perfectly satisfied with a logo that faded in and out during our introduction. But he created an animation of our logo that was much my dynamic and really brought a quality to the video that I didn't even think about. Either way, I would highly recommend Daniel for video projects, both remote editing as well as in-person video shooting.

We were debating on whether or not we even wanted videography for our wedding. We decided to go for it since we only get married once in our lives, hopefully. I have never been happier with the product, service and overall experience while working with a professional. AG Films captures all the right moments and tells a beautiful story of the whole wedding in his videos. My wife and I love the video so much, we end up rewatching it at least once a week. A big thank you for making our day extra special.

As a fellow artist and film maker, I can attest to Aaron's professionalism and passion for the craft. His years of experience make for an effortless process, he is extremely considerate and patient, and produces the best quality material that I've had done so far. He's intuitive enough to put you in spaces that help you get the image and production value you need for your brand. Also, his team is socially conscious, you have to respect someone with talent like his coupled with a commitment to service and exposing the voice of the voiceless. Highly recommended with a unique clientele base, Aaron and his GoatHouse team will be the new innovators and trend setters in video and photography.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
