I had an excellent experience with this company. I needed to do a small move (1 br apartment ). I called about a dozen companies, and they gave me the best quote for the job. Two movers came out the very next morning. The movers were friendly, respectful, on time, and professional. They delivered promptly to my destination address. They made everything super easy. Thank you!

I should start with the end. The end results were wonderful. The movers were fast, professional, and very, very nice! They quote was also the most accurate quote I've ever had - on time and price! While were a little concerned at first, because our calls were not answered, but someone did eventually call us back. The movers were 15 minutes late... This all sounds like a turn off, right? But once our movers showed up, they were SOOO much better than any other movers that we had in Seattle. We appreciated how fast they were. This is the first move we've had where NOTHING was broken. They took great care of all of our items. Thank you so much, fellas! We appreciate your help!

Movers called me half an hour before they arrived at the loading location. They started to work right after they arrived. It took them 3 hours including traveling from the Upack location in Kent to my place in Newcastle but they didn’t waste any time. Overall, the communication is great. The movers are professional and careful with my stuff. I would definitely recommend their services to anyone.

My guys were amazing! I call them my guys because I always felt as though they cared about my property and move time from start to finish. From first contact to job payment, Majestic held true to their name. this team made my move absolutely magical. I was a nervous reck because I had a number of issues arise as I set out to meet the movers at our agreed upon time at my unit starting with me losing keys and arriving to my unit 15 minutes later than my movers. They called to say they would be about 15 minutes late due to traffic. They were more like 5 minutes late or less. I arrived 15 minutes late. Dan (driver/team leader) and his team communicated frequently, but not too much. They were the pros the whole way and checked in when necessary. They took one break and communicated their break to me. I hired a three man crew to move contents of a 1-bedroom apt down three flights of stares. My property was never left alone on an open truck while they moved and loaded at the apartment or unloaded at the destination. Their rate was hightly competitive and their service was impeccable. I moved to a storage and wanted a certain amount of free space available in my storage unit. They accommodated my request beautifullly! Thanks guys!!!!!

From the very start, Alex was very professional. I called 5 other piano movers, and got the run around about how busy they were and unable to work around my schedule...although I gave them a 2 week window. Price was the best, updated scheduling calls, on time, and honest. I'd recommend this company to all. A+!

I decided to hire movers at the last minute for my move from my one-bedroom in Seattle to a town home in Bothell. From the beginning, Laurene and Rose were super helpful and had me booked in no time! Rose was very thorough and went through all of my items/concerns one by one. On moving day, the guys showed up right on time and went right to work. They were both polite and great to work with. Would definitely recommend A2B. Thanks for making things easy on me!

Excellent service and I can recommend them to anyone. They are not only good at moving but also very accommodating. I didn't have a car to move from one home to the other and one of the movers sat inside the truck so that I could sit in the front seat. Even though its only a 10min drive I thought its pretty nice thing to do on their part.

These guys are awesome. I hired them last minute to move a couple couches out of my basement through a tight stairwell and they did it perfectly. They even helped unload a new couch and put it together for me without hesitation. Definitely recommended!!! Thanks guys!

We contacted Prestige movers at the last minute for a move from Seattle to Las Vegas. They were extremely professional but friendly at the same time. We got frequent updates from them all throughout their drive and they reached in perfect time for us to move into our new apartment. Overall excellent experience, no complaints.

I could not be happier with my move with At-Ease Moving! I needed a last-minute move and At-Ease came through for me. I posted late in the evening on Thumbtack and had a response from Justin within 20 minutes; he and his partner were moving my furniture the very next afternoon. They worked expeditiously and with care. An added bonus is that they give a military discount! I highly recommend At-Ease and will book them again for my next move.

Great experience with Jr's Haulaway and Moving Services. We needed last minute moving help to clear out about half of our belongings to stage our house for sale. They were very responsive in figuring out our needs and setting up a time. Day of move, they showed up on time and worked quickly. I was impressed how efficiently they stacked the boxes and furniture. They managed to fit everything into two truck loads (and also saved us a uhaul truck rental). Very professional and friendly also, I highly recommend.

Very clear about the price beforehand, showed up the same day (evening) I requested the work, and did a good job covering some holes in the siding made by woodpeckers. They arrived a bit later than estimated, but not enough to warrant docking a star. I would hire them again.

Jun and his crew were outstanding. Responsive and fair price for last minute job. Easy to reach, arrived on time and even rearranged their schedule when my moving truck was late. They were so easy to work with, friendly, fast and did an amazing job (especially expertly packing the truck). They went above and beyond for me and I would highly recommend using them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
