"Don is a great electrician. I've hired several electricians for remodels and punch list electrical projects over the years and Custom Electrical is very good. Our project required installation of a ChargePoint 240 hardwired residential charger in our garage.
I spoke with them prior to coming out and they had some great suggestions over the phone. Don came out the next day to evaluate the project and provided an estimate onsite. They use an application that calculates materials, labor, and level of effort, so it is a fixed price quote that they show you and follow up with an email. They were not the lowest price, but definitely had the best ideas.
I wanted to run two or three 240 lines to our garage to future proof the electrical needs, in case we have more than one electric car. Rather than guessing where to put extra 240 lines and outlets, they added a sub-panel in the garage that will handle the future capacity we'll need. That will make it easy and inexpensive to add new chargers from the sub panel going forward.
Don, who bid the work also did the work. Its always great when the bidder is the same person who does the work. The quality of work in terms of installing the panel, hiding the 240 conduit, and rerouting some breakers was excellent.
We received other bids and most electricians can run a single 240 40-amp line from a main panel in the house to the garage for $1,000 to $1,200. (I'm sure some even do it for less than that.) They typically bid the job by the number of feet they need to run a line from panel to charger. Our project cost $2,700, which was probably in the above average category for the scope, yet we received top quality work, so totally worth it. The ChargePoint with 25ft cable added another $615 via Amazon."
