Angela is an excellent coach, who shows involvement in her clients' needs. Although I contacted her for personal training, she saw that I needed some life coaching too. In addition, I profited from her great knowledge of nutrition. Her coaching was very helpful for my various needs.

Sometimes you’re making your way through life and you meet somebody who changes everything. For me, that person was Kate Wells. Her hypnosis sessions (both individual and small group) leave me calm, confident and focused, and she has shared many self-care techniques such as EFT/tapping, self-hypnosis, breathing. She is warm and intuitive and takes time to understand her clients. You don’t come out of a session with Kate thinking that everything’s changed, but the realization sneaks up on you days or weeks later when it occurs to you that your behavior is different, or you’re making healthier choices, or you’re responding differently to people. Harmony and flow and balance.

Dave Bogan is a great public speaking coach, his classes were adapted accordingly to my needs as a non-native speaker. I had a lot of fun while learning useful techniques that helped me to improve my presentation skills. I highly recommend him. Thanks, Dave!

My experience with Tom as a coach has been wonderful. When we first met, I felt my life was in disarray and I had no idea what direction I was going in. I needed to take action, but felt too overwhelmed to figure out where to start. Through various conversations and exercises, Tom has helped me find my own path. I now have a career I love and I finally feel I am on the road to knowing real peace and happiness. I could not have made so much progress so quickly without Tom's guidance.

I had Matt Wines for a trainer last fall. The only reason I had to stop with him was because of my personal life. He's very knowledgable and considerate. His knowledge went beyond just working out. He's also very knowledgable about nutrition and helped me with some bad eating habits. He was always on time and very pleasant to work with. He was willing to work with my busy schedule. I would recommend him as a trainer.

Working with Hannah has been a life changing experience. She is a professional that can accommodate all levels of fitness from the elderly to the adolescent. In my case , I am middle aged and was out of shape with limited range of motion and little muscle mass. The results I've experience, which takes time and patience, have been due to being steady and consistent and trusting Hannah as my guide. She has been there 110% and helped me find confidence and strength I didn't think I had. I managed to stay focused on my goal to get strong and fi without getting hurt. I highly recommend her as a trainer, coach and fitness expert.

I sought a yoga instructor with patience and humility. Lalainya is definitely patient, understanding, positive, & non judgmental. There are other instructors who expect you to be at a certain level of understanding already. As a new student, I find that she is not only understanding but also open to ideas. She welcomes questions as an opportunity to enlighten and share relevant thoughts about the integration of yoga in your overall daily life. If there is any position not held correctly, she will let you know right away. If you seek a knowledgeable, but humble instructor, you will not be disappointed when working with Ms. Rawlings. She listens to your needs, respects/acknowledges your limitations all while encouraging your exploration of self awareness and unlimited potential. This is only my experience and I'm pleased with the results. You will be, too.

My overall experiences with Amanda has been phenomenal. I’ve seen so many therapists in my life and I’ve never felt the level of comfort or convenience as I have with her. The comfort of receiving talk therapy in the privacy of my own home helps me open up more significantly, removes the anxiety of travel/office visits, and has created the kind of rapport I often avoided with other professionals. Additionally, the flexibility means I can still make my appointments if I’m traveling, not at home, or outside my home city, which removes a huge barrier to care as someone who is often quite transient! The level of treatment is on par with any other therapist I’ve seen, if not higher, and the continuum of care and continuity of care has definitely helped my progress - there’s no excuse for cancelling appointments when it’s so easy, which has contributed significantly to my ability to effectively handle issues. By the end of my first session with Amanda, I knew I had done the right thing by reaching out to talk to someone. I had been suffering from severe anxiety and extensive over-worrying from everything from whether the trash was taken out to if it’s possible that my marketing clients could fire me all at the same time. As my therapist and I have continued to work together, I have not only changed most of my thought patterns that lead to unnecessary anxiety and worry, but have also continued on the path toward total self-acceptance, something I know wouldn’t be possible without the help from Amanda.

Januarie truly has a gift - actually, a combination of gifts. She has a genuine intuition, excellent coaching and communication skills, and impressive knowledge of all the areas she facilitates. I was struggling with my weight and tried all the conventional methods. She was able to help me release underlying issues that had me holding on to unwanted weight.

I completed the "Self-Care Summit" with Kari and couldn't have been happier with it. She didn't just provide information, she actually taught me how to apply it to my life. I analyzed my own behavior and thoughts and learned ways to make them more positive. I learned how important self-care is, and how to make it work for me. Since completing the self-care summit, I've continued the practices I learned and been much more at peace and happy overall. I highly recommend Kari's programs! Thank you again for your insight and kindness!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

    Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
