Jack King is a true professional! I’m a REALTOR with a very busy schedule and Jack was very diligent in reminding me of upcoming deadlines to file my taxes and when it came down to actually preparing and submitting my taxes, he made everything easy to understand and helped me and my family find tax savings that we weren’t even aware of! All in all, we received a refund and we attribute it to Jack’s expertise and tremendous knowledge in the area of tax preparation. I’m a customer for life!

I was thrilled to discover the TaxBunny, Michael Johnson, to prepare my tax return. Being a new resident to WA, I was unfamiliar with state tax regulations. What I especially appreciated was the depth of his expertise and the range of questions that he asked involving potential deductions. He took the time to carefully discuss my situation. I highly recommend this competent professional.

I've done my own taxes for years and met with Stephen about a specific tax question. He was able to quickly answer my questions and provide IRS references. He saved me hours of reading, not to mention reducing my anxiety. He was timely, friendly, and charged only for the time he spent on me, which was less than the going rate for professional tax advice. Wish I'd of found him years ago.

First of all Mrs. Maclean was so very nice. I thought I was prepared but after we were going through my tax preparation I realized I was still missing a few documents. Mrs Maclean was so patient and assisted in recovering the documents I needed. She has definitely gained another client.

I've really enjoy working with Lily! She's been a lifesaver handling my business's bookkeeping needs, and is very thorough. She also goes above and beyond to connect me with other local businesses, networking groups, and resources. She's easy to contact, responds promptly, and answers all of my questions, regardless of how large or small. I know I'm in good hands working with her, and I would highly recommend her services to anyone needing some extra bookkeeping and tax preparation help!

Denise waded through piles of paper, held my hand, and never scolded me once about having gotten SO BEHIND on my fiscal responsibilities. She pulled me out of the muck and made everything right. I couldn't be happier with her work.

Great experience! Richard prepared the income tax return for my husband and me. He went above and beyond by helping us navigate how to file a return when one of our employers incorrectly filed a W2. He provided excellent advice and checked in regularly with us.

About

I am certified in QuickBooks ProAdvisor. I do federal tax returns for businesses and individuals -- 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, 941, 940, 1099 and W-2. I also do Washington State taxes, such as employment and excise, sales and use tax. Running a small business means you have a daunting number of rules and deadlines to follow for compliance. With my past experience as controller in the private industry, in addition to experience in public accounting, I understand the demands, both financial and nonfinancial, that you face. I specialize in easing you through the maze with as much or as little help as you want at affordable rates. It's so much easier (and cheaper) to get everything set up correctly from the start. To encourage beginning businesses to start off right, I will resume my $75 QuickBooks setup special (up to two hours) until tax season begins in mid-January.

Mason was great to work with. After meeting with us and discussing our tax situation, he gave us an estimate and did not exceed that price, even when our taxes ended up being more challenging than originally anticipated. We were very comfortable knowing that he would work hard to make the best of what was a crummy tax year for us. I'm very happy with Mason and we will definitely be back next year.

Seena has been very helpful and friendly throughout the whole filing process, she responded to all my questions quickly and price is very reasonable. I had other accountant did my tax before and they require me to sort everything out for them which made the whole process much more time consuming for me. Would definitely recommend her for everyone...

Our tax advisor, Kaitlin Krozel, was excellent. Ensuring she had all the details regarding our mortgage, many W-2s, the AirBnB we run, and even assisted in some international tax guidance for a term based life insurance policy I had lying around in Canada. Highly recommended!

They run a very reliable service. I had received a notice from the IRS that I owed them taxes for the last three years totaling more than $45,600. The notice also said that I had 30 days to clear the taxes or the IRS would take collection action against me. I was quite alarmed as I didn’t have that much money to spare on such short term notice. I contacted several companies to see if anyone could help me. I didn’t get a call back from any other firms except Legacy Tax & Resolution Services. A lady from the firm, whose name I have forgotten, called back the very next day and talked to me in a very reassuring manner. She set up a meeting with one of their consultants who provided complete guidance on the tax filing process and offered to represent me with the IRS. Legacy Tax Resolution Service negotiated a deal with the IRS and they agreed to break down the payment over a period of three years. They also reduced the total payment to $12,340 saving me more than $30,000. Great service.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who can file my taxes?

Any individual with a preparer tax identification number (PTIN) is eligible to file your income taxes on your behalf. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean they will be the best candidate to provide the help you need with your income tax preparation. The IRS explains that CPAs, attorneys and enrolled agents are all allowed to legally represent their clients before the IRS. They have a more thorough understanding of tax code than an individual operating solely with a PTIN or an Annual Filing Season Program participant who provides their services on a volunteer basis. Consider the complexity of your tax return and what level of expertise you’ll require. Before entrusting someone with your private financial and personal information, do some research on their qualifications. The IRS has a searchable database where you can verify the background and credentials of your income tax preparation professional. Once you have selected someone, ask about their service fees and confirm their availability. Then provide them with all the documentation they require, including W-2s, 1099s and more. Always ask to review the paperwork before it is submitted, and never sign a blank tax return.

How much does it cost to get taxes done?

Hiring a professional to help with income tax preparation can be priceless. Pro help can mean no mistakes and a maximized tax return. The cost to get your income taxes done depends on the professional you hire. Tax attorneys or in-demand CPAs will often have the highest rates for their services. Next in the pricing tier are enrolled agents, who will usually have higher rates than individuals solely working with a preparer tax identification number (PTIN). Nationally, the average cost of income tax preparation ranges from $150 to $190. Income tax preparation prices can also vary based on where you live and the complexity of your tax returns. Here are some examples of average income tax preparation prices from an enrolled agent:

  • Taxpayers filing only a W-2 tax form: $50.
  • Taxpayers filing a W-2 along with additional tax forms such 1099-INT and 1098-E: $150.
  • Taxpayers with several tax forms and one or two additional considerations such as a rental property, investment transactions, K-1 income, 1099-MISC or a simple small business: $225.
  • Taxpayers with multiple activities (rentals, K-1 income, small business, etc.), several stock transactions and more: $395.

Nationally, the average hourly rate nationally for a tax prep professional ranges between $150 and $450.
